Making a Rocking Horse / Rocking Stool - Nearly!

- So why is this rocking horse unfinished? Well, approaching Christmas of 2021, I thought it'd be a lovely idea to make a rocking horse/stool for my young nephew. He has some learning difficulties but loves to bounce around on the furniture. Great for him to have his own piece I thought (mum and dad agreed!).
And so it began, using offcuts of poplar from a chair prototype, working on it on and off as time allowed. I ran out of suitable lengths of poplar offcuts and it was spring of 2023 before I could start work on it again.
By early autumn of '23, it was just waiting for upholstery - at the back of a long queue (the upholstery for my pieces is complex and takes a while). So, there it's sat, un-upholstered for 8 months now.
In this 2 1/2 year period, my little nephew is now not so little. He's shot up!! This rocking horse now comedically small for him, hence the "horse with no home".
I probably will still finish it. Perhaps donate it to a local children's charity.
I can't keep it around. Fills me with a sense of shame!
Thought I'd share the build (so far) with you anyway. Hope you enjoy!

Thank you mate. Still needs upholstering so not quite there yet.
👍👍👍. Thanks
Alway appreciate you dropping a comment bud.👍
No shame in working to limits. Life happens. Beautiful build regardless of who gets it. Take care & stay safe.
Thanks man. I do feel bad it took me so long but it's all tongue in cheek 👍
Such a cool design Stew love it.. Are we going to get a follow up to see it completed? I hope so!
Thanks Keith. Probably not mate. In fact, this video has performed so badly, i dont think I'll post any more furniture builds. They just don't interest my subs it seems🤷♂️
So thats what you look like! ...just needs some very rare rocking horse sh1t! Hope you're having a nice weekend mate!
😁 Quite the oil painting eh?
@@BischBaschBosch ..have you ever seen someone who looks like their voice, no, nor me. Always makes me chuckle that one, it’s like trying to guess a woman’s age! 😂
@@HewAndAwe I just thought of one...Brian Blessed! 😂
When at the start of the video you said it’d taken 2 years I thought that the child would have outgrown it. Unfortunately I was right Its a lovely piece, have to get some more nieces/nephews so it can be used …
It was very interesting to see your build process Stew, but, really, shame on you for letting down your nephew! 😂😂👍
😁 Terrible innit? Cheers mate.
@@BischBaschBosch I'm a retired Carpenter-Cabinetmaker for over 20 years. When my grandkids were born, I thought, I'd make them many things when they were little. Made a few, but not everything I had planned on making. Now there're teenagers and it's too late. So you're not alone in regret. Beautiful Rocker by the way.
@@nowhereman112244 Cheers. It's probably a common thing I imagine.
