Wow! this song takes me back, when every song had its own unique sound, and this music is so smooth, from the horn playing, along with that beautiful Harmony
I listen to this Friday night.. Maybe his best song ever .. This has been sampled a lot ..Memories of living in Toronto, Canada 1989, going through my uncle's record collection and been attracted by its Cool album Cover ..then loving the songs,then recording "Places & Spaces" on an audio Cassette to play in my Walkman ..Been a big Donald Byrd fan Ever since!! ..
The Mizell Brothers (circa 1970's) produced, arranged and performed on albums by *Donald Byrd, Bobbi Humphrey and The Blackbyrds.* You've got a lotta good listening ahead of you.
Check out "Fallin' Like Dominoes", "Flight Time", "Steppin' Into Tomorrow", "Sky High" and "Woman Of The World". *Fun Fact:* Fonce Mizell was also a producer at Motown Records.

This Album is a Classic. Everyone I knew in my Hood in N.J. owned it, and couldn't get enough of it, even to this Day!!!

Thank you so much for keeping our music alive!!! We need you!! The complex’s arrangement; classic Orchestra with jazz funk! Mind blowing!!! Never get tired of hearing him! I was 17 when I first heard him on the radio 1975! Yes. Hard to process if you never heard this unique sound before. Amazing man! The Blackbyrds of Howard university were his students! Gotta check out the Black Byrds!!

Actually, the lyrics are "Crossed a lot of rivers, seen a lot of land". Check out the live version from "Blue Note At The Roxy". They sing the lyrics a bit clearer. Though your version actually sounds better. LoL
@@thequietrevolution3404 That might be what they're singing in the LIVE version - where the lyrics could be switched up on the fly during any given performance but when you take the lyrics of the entire song of the STUDIO version into context, "Crossed a lot of rivers" doesn't make much sense - not to mention that that doesn't even halfway sound like that's what they're singing... The song is on some back in the day street life shit talking about "people getting high" and buying prostitutes but "Crossed a lot of rivers"? If you say so. Haha.

Nice Eazy-E shirt. I grew up in Paramount, the next city over from Compton and was in my early teens when NWA dropped their albums. I even sold MC Ren a set of Ultimate Breaks and Beats while helping out at a records store. Let me tell you Eazy Duz It was such a big album during that time and I basically wore out the cassette. Before that there was NWAs Dope Man and after that there was the D.O.C. I would highly recommend giving the song No One Can Do It Better a listen. Getting back to this song, Donald Byrd is a legend. I truly enjoy your channel, keep it up.

Although I grew up hearing his solo projects, I was mainly familiar with Dr. Byrd’s work with the Blackbyrds. More of their music was played all over the radio. My love affair with Dr. Byrd’s work really began in my teens. My Granddad’s album collection had many of his albums, and my first love was the Street Lady album “Miss Kane” to be exact. And then I heard this album. OH MY GOODNESS!!! Love at first listen. Ear Candy. 🤗💜💫✨🤌🏾🔥
Played this song a lot back in the 70's as a teenager. Reminds me of all the vinyl I no longer have. Damn younger brothers.
