- The burning oil fields of Kuwait at the start of the 1990 Gulf War are one of the abiding images associated with the country. But in the 28 years since the conflict, the country has changed and the British military has played its part. Well now, as Hannah King found out, British instructors have been helping to train Kuwaiti recruits on land and at sea...

My grandpa was part of the Kuwait Liaison Team in 1969-197X, and he taught the Kuwaiti pilots on the Lightnings
Yes lighting was looking like Russian jets more than western jets
I remember living in Kuwait, I was great friends with British military families living in the country. Absolutely amazing place and amazing people.

Oil... USA: Where?!
dont forget us the brits too
its not the oil itself that's valuable to the US....its the TRADE of oil in dollars (as the world reserve currency) that props up the value of the dollar.
the US government don't "need oil".........what they need is leaders to trade oil in dollars.
Mr Hole the USA is still in Kuwait we have good relations.
Kuwait well done, glad that to see good cooperation on both our nations, dont here this much!
J B love from Kuwait. I absolutely love the UK
Apparently wearing there cap badge over their left ear..... *thumbnail*
Matsimus they are rifles mate, that’s just what they do
Matsimus he likes to think he’s a para mate
Is that not something to do with the Rifles not hiding behind the badge?
Andrew Obern Different regts have different kits as a matter of tradition I give you that, but not wearing the same kit in a thousand different ways. It don’t make it a tradition just because you have enough people doing it the wrong way together. The Rifles Major in the video certainly didn’t wear his badge above his sideburns.
Chris Ryan it means you served in a combat zone, currently in the rifles my self
What are the British doing in Kuwait? Getting oil and gas 😉
Kuwaiti troops wear U.S. Marine Corps camouflage but function according to British military custom.
looks a cool country
So is your home, if it's not cooler though.
Well it needs a cleanup
Aaron from England so is England
Nice passing shot of 360 Mall. Been there many times. Of course the best mall is Avenues.

If there was a fire in that ship’s compartment that matelot was getting cooked!
Take a knee and get down low behind the hatch door, brace body against the door then crack the door open to see if smoke, if no flame or explosion with the inrush of air then you can open the door staying behind it for protection.
What.... Nooo Just No!
Nothing wins war like learning drill
the Spartans intimidated opponents with their drill..........one army even surrendered withought fighting such was the mastery of their drill.
We Kuwaitis love those who help us and join🇰🇼❤️ us, because the Indian and Bangladeshi expatriates ruined Kuwait with their exile, not educated, not everyone but most

Old video Kuwait war was 1990-1991 and these is not the whole army .
So when did we start wearing the capbadge closer to our left ear and not above the left eye. Just asking.
Hugh Adams Individuals have been doing it since the beret was adopted, from the centre of the forehead to over the ear, whatever they get away with, same as mutton chops, big tashes etc.
What is acting major Dominic Watson‘s beret fucking hell😂

oil
I came here because of SNSD Sunny
What if,if kuwait have zero oil?
British and american still doing that?
brian payacag Well no country is that helpful without ulterior motives. Even russia and china act and include countries in their field of military and diplomatic protection if and only if they have vested interests on those territories. All Powerful nations such as United States, Great Britain, Russia and china want to safeguard their interest and secure their throne and have a leverage/platform to ascend as a indomitable power. Oil is a key factor in sustaining the life of each countries war machine and economy. It is the beating heart of civilization, once taken away from a nation will surely plunge to ruins. That is why the middle east is a pivotal standpoint for the Superpower and the Major Powers we know today.
And Pakistan Military officers and majors train British cadets which are roots of a growth at Sandhurst and it is proven by BBC that strong discipline and top troops are made from their. GB - LOVE - PK
still not found those WMD's !
They were supposed to be in Iraq.
Kuwait war was a bit earlier, Desert Shield and Desert Storm happened during George Senior's tenure, the invasion of Iraq was during Junior's stay at the White House.
Big country plenty of time to hide or dispose of things, poor intel for GW2 but Sadsdam stopping the weapon inspectors, trying to big himself up to the rest of the world (dont forget he had used chemical weapons in the aftermath of GW1 against his own people and that they were used in the Iran- Iraq war), did not help, he was still trying to make out he was a big man, stopping the inspectors from verifying the weapons were gone or disposed of, preventing them entering suspected areas.
He never helped himself and definately not his country which was under an iron despotic rule.
You are missing the point, WMD were not discussed, considered and searched in Kuwait.
It's like I spoke about the 6 Day war of 1967 and you mentioned some fact about the Yom Kippur war.
Braun30 Who is missing what point? During GW 1 there was a huge fear and expdctation Saddam would use chemical weapons, he threatened to use them and since they were used by both sides in the Iran- Iraq war the threat was considered real.
So much so that the British and US forces at least hurridly purchased West German NBC reconnaissance vehicles based on the Fuchs, dusted off equipment and training, instigated it more rigourously.
Israel and the coalition forces were concerned about the possibility of those Scuds having chemical warheads (even crude versions or dirty bombs)
That was all in 1990/91. The fact Saddam went on to use chemical weapons against the Marsh Arabs and Kurds in 1991/92 to put down the revolts hard - led to weapons inspectors being sent in, which Saddam blocked from sites while he tried to keep up his big bad boy image.
Chemical weapons were looked for in kuwait, but so was any other type of weapon and munition. There was no big public search solely for WMD's. It was just part of the clearing process.
The great search for chemical weapons was after poor Colin Powell was sent in front of the world with constructed evidence of "mobile laboratories" and other information then used as excuse to attack Iraq ten years after Gulf War 1.0.
How I hear the brits say Kuwait is like this Qwait
ANormalGamer Many People Use Q8 fOr Kuwait not kwt because Q = kuw 8 = ait so put the, together Kuwait Q8
Why?...Oil... money... greed...
Financial resources panic.
Are the kuwaiti soldiers rookie? They look so awkward
Anna Ulysses well they weren't directly involved in any wars themselves yet were they, the oldest ones there were still kids in '91 and the youngest weren't even born yet
Clue is that it was British Forces helping to train the kuwaitis, teaching basic skills in training units. They were under training.
The ones in this clip are cadets they aren’t even full soldiers until they graduate then they become rookies lol
Jimmy Kimmel is that you?
'Keeping the peace' in the mideast while Britain goes to hell. Much respect for the soldiers but I hope they know the real enemy sits comfortably in Westminster.
gra tee Thats news is it? Or recent? British Governments have been no different really all down history. But they are voted in by the majority of the public.
Chaz t Of course they are voted in by the majority of the public. That is what is required for a government to be elected.
Joshjpb Yes she was.
oh shut it. Be thankful for the amazing lives you can lead compared to other countries. The U.K. sits far higher on the quality of lifestyle my friend than so many others.
The UK is not leaving Europe.
You're right - we're not. That would be physically impossible. We are, however, leaving the EU.
The EU was sold as a lie to the British public in the 1970's when they voted to join the Common Market - which morphed into this broken entity trying to take over europe - the United States of Europe.
The constant threats, constant backlash, constant telling the UK it must pay 100 billion to leave the EU.
The UK is the third largest contributer to the EU and one of only seven nations that put in more than they take out, twenty one nations take more than they give (one is neutral). Which means those twenty one are going to get less, those remaining six are going to have to pay more - all to makeup the shortfall.
Didn't you hear? We're mounting 500,000 outboard motors to lands end! We're going to the Antarctic boys.
Britain supporting its former colonies. Always wanted to visit Kuwait, looks beautiful.
It is cool I live there
Kuwait has never been a colony, you're the one who is colonised.
@@vehement-critic_q8957 kuwait was a british colony
@@Bunny-zn7ke Go learn basic lessons of how to start a smalltalk then how to converse. Kuwait is an independent state and the British are allies not colonists.
@@vehement-critic_q8957 lol what? Kuwait was colonized until it became independent in 1961.
Probably, Kuwait can’t offered to get a Kuwaiti trainer
Yeah so ?😂
The Paras are the worst offenders for wearing their berets incorrectly, with the badge in the wrong position. A lot of Paras, including Sgt. and Cpl. instructors mould their berets in such a way that it looks like a maroon coloured pancake on their heads. It's just a fashion thing, which they think looks cool, but it doesn't. I'm ex-military and I know how to wear a beret !!
Bro chill it's just a beret
England Kuwait

People from Kuwait is very different they got broad mentality
What do you mean?
aziz alali more like open minded and amen to that
And their welcome to their second home Kuwait ❤️ specially the scousers 🤦🏻♂️YNWA
Someone needs to grip that Rifles guy. I don't think Tam O'Shanters are worn in the Rifles? What a muppet.
🇰🇼🇬🇧👋🏼
This is just a dog and pony show. Kuwait doesn't need an army......they got Nayirah al-Sabah. When Kuwait gets attacked, she will tell the world about babies being pulled from incubators whilst putting on the waterworks looking like she's making an acceptance speech for an Oscar academy award in a performance more than worthy of an Oscar. The USA and whatever western coalition of freedom lovers it can cobble together at the time will then swoop in to defend Kuwait like Marvel's The Avengers.
The Nayirah defense plan only works, however, if Kuwait still has oil and continues to sell that oil in US dollars.....Kuwait had better not think about trading their oil with anything other than good ol' USD otherwise it's regime change time, Uncle Sam will go ham.
hmartinspliff OR Saudi would defend them
Or GB would?
Ya gb will
And why does kuwait doesn’t need army every country need army
Interesting and all but who pays for the British contribution? Is it our MOD? Or are the Kuwaitis funding it?
Enforcing her maj rule in the middle east
Why are we training the Mexican army?
I love Islam
They are there for the assurance of the partake in oil trade. So as the USA. If you notice, any country that has Huge amount of Raw Resources the US or the British are there. I wonder why hahaha. It's on my opinion thoug correct me if I'm wrong
I hope we get paid for this!
Paid for what? We have bilateral agreements and that's enough, you're getting paid through your exports only.
God Kuwait God senthil Kumar God Muniswararn God muni God
I'd rather have a small well trained army of unorthodox unpredictable soldiers than a bunch of over disciplined pretty boy weekend poster child wimps.
William Logan Whats over disciplined? Unpredictable is not good, you want adaptable, disciplined troops.
So u would rather have isis
Intelligence tops strength, it's a postmodern warfare.
Training with Pakistan army good army
