Simlics (how many uF ? What voltage ?), polypropylenes, new op-amps (which ones ?) ...not bad. Just noticed the melted red caps by the op-amps, though. Looks like your weller got a little too close for comfort. ; )
I'm trying to replace those output caps right now with Silmics. It's a very tight fit. I'm going to replace the 1kmF PS cap too with a Cerafine. The O/p cap I've removed does not have any polarity marking! I've concluded that it's bipolar. So I'm going to follow the lead in this vid and put the negative nearer the op amps. I tested the cap I removed with my cheapo chinese tester and it measures very badly. It's 50% over capacitance and has the biggest 'losses' I've ever seen in a cap. So I'm hoping for some improvement, let's see.
Ok I changed the output caps and 1000mf supply cap. There is a difference but it's a lot smaller than I hoped for. Basically a bit more rounded and smooth. It's a very good dac to started with.
Hi Jonas thanks for the video! are the original opamps LM4562 or is this the one you used to replace? If so, what is the original that comes with? Thanks again! Cheers
So those 220 uf are the coupling caps? What about the two brown poly caps between the 220 uf? I was hoping it had smaller value cap that may be replaced with good quality poly or paper in oil, but 220 uf is impossible.
the dac is tiny you could get away with monacor 10 uf polypropylene capacitors. the little brown ones are there for upper frequency id remove them once you have polypropylene in place
My DACMAGIC100 worked great with my 2011 MacBook Air laptop. I bought a new 2017 MacBook Air laptop and I cannot get any sound out. No idea what is wrong or how to fix this problem!!!!

Almost ALL budget DACs benefit from an external linear supply to a certain extent, but the difference is not as great as some might lead you to expect. I bought a replacement PSU for my DACmagic 100 . It's bigger than the original but still switchedmode. I hope to get a small difference from the upgrade. At the moment the problem is procuring a power supply plug because the DACMagic uses a very unusual one.
@@jeremyroebuck122 hi I have stopped doing the mods on this dac as the power supply is the best option. the surface mount op-amps can be replaced but they are glued in and hard to get out.& the tracks can break if you are happy with the dac enjoy it m8 upgrade your amp or speakers with the cash as this Dac was very happy in my system recently I loved it certainly wasn't out of place. in very expensive gear sounded superb
It's a moot point. Rod Elliot from the ESP HifFi pages claims it makes no difference and that most op amps from the NE5532 up ar linear throughout the audio range.. I haven't changed the op amps on this DAC, but on previous experience changing them on CD players I have to concur with Elliot. I found no difference. I am wondering if the opamps here perform a filtering role or are simply an output buffer. Maybe they could be bypassed altogether.

jonas hi end audio modifications - nice dude to hear from you ! Well I got also a dacmagic 100 at hand plugged with a wrong power supply but I don’t see any fuse in... do you make upgrades as shown in video too ? Might BE Interested
I did something similar to a Sony DVD/SACD player years ago with a surface mount OPA2107 and managed not to destroy anything. Still happily using it! :-) It's strange that manufacturers insist on cutting corners in the output stage when better parts would improve the sound so much. Thanks for the video and the reply.
For that player I just beefed up the filter capacitance on the original switching supply and redundantly at the B+/- lines on the audio board (and at another point near the clock if I remember right). It was simpler and fit within the original cramped player case. But if I end up picking up a DAC like this one to play with, obviously it will be a different story regarding power supply.
You are lucky mine has not exactly died but will not see usb input. Just powers up with the USB (indicator) select pulsing. select any other source and all the LEDs flash at random?? Power supply OK at 12.03VDC but now will not select any input! Power supply was my first suspect as it's now on it's second PSU, first one got seriously hot and died, which has been a KNOWN fault with earlier models. New PSU was free issue from Cambridge but module now out of warranty so what next. Dont have any local repair techs around here.
Any links to instructions to the mods you did? ( I just don't understand your accent but I want to know what your saying!)
Sounds smooth, but what about middle notes ? I hear there is leak of them.
