I know what you mean. I'm not an "ethnomusicologist" (if that exists,) but I think that all or most of these songs have a basis in traditional Korean music and what we would call the scales, motifs, and themes of that ancient tradition. To anyone criticizing them, please just remember you’re talking about children. Children who can disassemble and reassemble an AK-47 so tread carefully!
I don't know who to feel worse for, these kids forced to practice useless skills, or kids out in the countryside starving and working in place of an ox they don't have. PS, keep it coming Peter, it's fascinating if nothing else
It really is so dystopian isn’t it! Honestly my fiancé and I sit for hours watching this stuff just in complete shock. So bizarre, I couldn’t imagine what they’re going through over there
from what i learned from a documentary film. in north korea the government will take children when they hit 2 yo, put them in school facility not allowed to meet their parents until they grow up and ready to join society. imagine a world without child roaming around and causing you a problem
100000X these kids. The kids in the country side are automatically lower status. To live in 평양 at all, the capital, you need to be a certain rank. There are 40 social classes and then sub social classes, depending on your relation to Kim's party... the "Democratic "workers" party". It's awful.
The dystopian part is there for sure, let's not be too high on our horses. Just check a kids beauty pageant from the US - I'd argue those kids go through comparable levels of abuse (even if it's different in nature). Life mostly sucks, most people are assholes :D these kids are at least well fed by NK standards.

Hi Peter! Thank you for posting all the North Korean content for all of us to see. It's nice to have an inside look at what type of media they produce.
It's so freaking SAD what they are doing to the kids there. It's like South Korea times 100. At least in South Korea you don't have to succeed to live. In South Korea you might be scolded by your parents and friends, but in North Korea your life is literally on the line to perform.

Although the talent is amazing, this is the creepiest and scariest thing I've seen. If you look closely into those children's eyes past the fake smiles there is a real fear coming through as if letting you know they are performing for their lives.
Hollywood exploits the youth, sure, but folks in that industry would be sued & imprisoned on sight if they emotionally & mentally destroyed a small child just to be “perfect” on Sesame Street.
@@officerdonut7066 Girl everyone, everywhere, everyday does that. Unlike China and NK, the rest of the world don’t live in an absolute violent dictatorship where you could get killed for even questioning a politician.
Those poor children, they all look so scared of putting a foot wrong, especially the little girl in the pink dress. If he (Kim Jong Un) changed his vile ways and actually helped his people, he would find all adulation to be genuine.
Yes, I was watching a documentary about a group of children training ro get everything exact, it's a once in a lifetime dream to perform in front of the great leader. Unfortunately, he didn't show for their performance. I felt so bad for them.
I don’t know why people in this comment are saying this is disturbing and scary. Do Americans ever travel abroad? This is considered normal in many countries with kids doing circus shows.
i don’t think this is crazy. most of us aren’t korean, don’t speak korean, and don’t know korean culture. it is a rare treat to catch a glimpse of entertainment under socialism in the dprk.
The little girl was singing a song about how much she loves the Supreme Marshal Kim Jong Un. Turn on captions and select English. It's creepy as she is saying "When I come home to my freezing home Marshal Kim Jong Un is there to hold her hand and take her down the withering road"
