That's actually really nice, volunteering is something that people look for doing with their friends or family but they don't know where or how, and the reward of spending some time with dogs and nature is a win-win situation
From an environmental standpoint, I do see 1,000+ dogs as an environmental concern. In the US, dog owners are urged to pickup after their dogs so as not to spread diseases or contaminate the environment and more importantly streams with their waste. If she has vaccinated them all, that could take care of the disease issue. But just think about all the dog feces there must be everywhere. I doubt she picks up after all of them or hires a company to clean up. It’s not heartless to think about the environment. That’s not to say I don’t feel for the dogs either. But it is a valid point. Also, outdoor dogs and cats kill billions of mammals and birds annually, so that’s another issue. And yes, I have a degree in Environmental Science.

I love this so much. Thank you for mentioning the funding issues they have and directing their page for donations. Every video i've seen only covers the superficial touristy side of it, but never the concerns to maintain the land. I've volunteered a couple of times and each time has been a highlight in my life. They are all precious

Im from Costa Rica and it is sad how the government has tried to close it at least 3 times because they don’t have enough funds. I understand that all these dogs have many needs but they are much better in Territorio than in the streets.
I was in Costa Rica in February 2019 and this facility was closed down. Apparently they had been charged with neglect by the government. Dogs were being killed by wild boar or jaguar ( I can’t remember which it was). I was devastated that I was not only unable to go and experience this rescue but even more disturbing was the fact that the government isn’t whole heartedly supporting this venture. Sad but true, they have been shut down.

I love dogs, and I would probably go in there and pet every single one of them, but I would be so scared of one of them attacking me and the rest following along.

I'm from Costa Rica and I just wanted to clarify that the word "zaguate" is used to described stray/mongrel dogs (is like the opposite of a pedigree dog). Is also often used as a pejorative word for womanizer men.
I loooovvvveeee dogs. This is on my bucket list. And I will be taking one home if I can ever go. I know I will be teary eyed. This is such a blessing.
