IMPORTANT REMINDER: When you visit Iceland, don't walk on the moss. It is fragile and takes centuries for it to grow back. Thank you for the understanding. Now go and have fun.
The Blue Lagoon was totally worth it. I loved the small, local geothermal pools around the country that were affordable but the Blue Lagoon was so beautiful and special. The silica in their geothermal pools really does improve your skin and there is something therapeutic about going from freezing temperatures to warm water and back to freezing. While I was there my skin was gorgeous and I felt so good!
I went there last summer it was really fun, but I didn’t go to the blue lagoon, cause we went during a really popular time, but there is so much other fun stuff to do there
I've been there once, and it was def. one of my most enjoyed trips ever. The people there are absolutely wonderfully crazy. I was walking through town and this guy randomly offered me some of his bottle of alch. then walking through a park met some guys and they told me eh we pee everywhere in the park. Def. can't wait to go back one day!
as an Icelander, I recommend the Blue Lagoon. It might be a little expensive. But there aren't a whole lot of lagoons in Iceland safe enough to dip in. Plus The BL has the facility for showers etc. You should go. It is real nice and you skin will feel so good after it. Leave the later lagoons for photos, as they can be too hot to go in!
I used to work there (the Lava restaurant) and believe me it's a good thing it's so overpriced- the crowds are UNBELIEVABLE. They hiked the price and limited available tickets and it got a lot better. They even started charging just to enter the building to look at the lagoon. It was so crowded from tourists stopping by just to take pictures, guests and staff could barely breathe and it really impeded the service we were able to provide. People also used to try and sneak in without paying, and funny enough the restaurant staff were usually the ones that caught them since the restaurant has an entire glass wall view over the lagoon. Just remember to reserve in advance!!
I must say that the CEO of Blue Lagoon was right when he said that the best time to visit there is during winter time as the experience is really different when you're dipping in the lagoon and there is snow falling. It makes the experience 10x more relaxing.
The water is circulated every 40 hours or so. The high quantity of salt and sulphur makes it so that no bacteria thrives in the water. So in fact it is self cleaning.
My husband and I went to Iceland for 7 days, and we visited the blue lagoon on our anniversary. We splurged and upgraded where we went to the private area of the lagoon. We were allowed to be there for 5 hrs and it was worth EVERY penny.
I stayed at the Silica hotel when I went to Iceland. It has it’s own private blue lagoon (It was a bit smaller and connected to the big one). I’d say that was a better experience because we had it all to ourselves. Also, don’t. Walk. On. The. Rocks. You know those rocks on the side of the road? The rocks everywhere with moss growing on them? Don’t step on them!!!! They are growing and Icelandics hate it when people step on them.
Many years ago my friend and I did an Iceland quick trip. It included the Blue Lagoon. It was the highlight of our trip. The smell of the minerals in that water was the freshest and cleanest smell; I wish I could have bottled that clean smell and taken back home with me. I would go back to Iceland in heartbeat!

It was nice sitting up along side the pool and rub the salt all over - jump in - and repeat. I don't know about the mud. I forget the admission price back then in the early '00s but the $60 or so is absolutely worth it; if you want to waste money get the robe that you only have to return - though not for me. Recently, we have not had the time for the Blue Lagoon but your video ignited good memories, especially when we were last there when the air temp was a rare (for southern Iceland) zero (0) F with a breeze - - and now we have to return! CAUTION, I do not advise testing lava springs to skimp on lagoons. Thanks!
I’ve been to the blue lagoon before they have a caffe with phone protectors and face mask with a bar in the lagoon! There are molten lava rocks above too! The water is a mix of fresh water and ocean waters and the chemicals make it that colour too. When I got my mineral white mask the lady there told me not to put it near my eyes as well and when you wanan wash it off there is like a sink in the lagoon where you can do it.

When I visited the Lagoon for the first time back in 2003, the tour driver told us: "You have probably never before in your lives looked forward so much to having a bath in industrial waste"The water in the lagoon is pumped up in order to heat other water for house-heating. When the most of the heat is taken from the water it is dumped into the lagoon, so this is per defenition industrial left-overs.
I know this is a 3 year old comment so apologies for necroposting, but when the lagoon was first formed in 1976 the local paper dubbed it "the poison pits" and considered it a natural disaster. It wasn't until the workers over at the geothermal power station started swimming there when it was discovered that the lagoon is very good for people with psoriasis. After some refurbishing and added amenities it went from a natural disaster to one of the 25 natural wonders of the world. The power plant got pretty lucky that it ended up this way, I would say. Not often that you find industrial waste that has health benefits. Pretty cool!
i recently went on a school trip to iceland where i visited the geothermal power station that the blue lagoon water goes through. it’s super funny that the workers there call the blue lagoon ‘waste water’ as the silica is picked up from when the water goes down into the earth and then is used in the power station. i didn’t actually go in the blue lagoon even though we walked around it however, we went to the secret lagoon which was a really nice alternative (but wasn’t blue!!)

Reykjadalur Thermal river is well worth a visit and free. The Secret Lagoon is a fraction of the price compared to the Blue Lagoon and is a must visit. It is in fludir.
some icelandic people and scientists in iceland don't really recommend the blue lagoon is that the reason why your skin is so soft is because there are chemicals in the water that are burning of a layer of your skin and then is why you feel so fresh and soft. It is really fun at the blue lagoon but it is so weird and dangerous because you might be able to touch the bottom in one step but in the other it's very deep and you can't see the bottom so you don't really know what you are stepping on 😬 and the water in the lagoon has never been cleaned. And the lagoon is very over priced since people just bought the lagoon and built a house and a restaurant around it, but it's a fun experience ;)
We did the comfort level and afterwards decided it was well worth it. We were there in March and went on the first bus from the station. That worked well because we were able to enjoy the lagoon for a couple of hours, get a shower, relax with a beer, and return to Reykjavik for a nice late lunch. Yes, Iceland is expensive, but we soon adjusted and we consider ourselves budget travelers. We flew from Chicago on IcelandAir and got a really good discount in one of the airline’s hotels right in downtown.
Crazy cause I’m debating whether to go this upcoming March, it blows my mind how the water can be hot while it is technically freezing outside. That didn’t gave you a cold/cough by any chance did it right?
@@lexluth89 It felt great. The only discomfort was the couple of minutes exposure to the frigid air while going from the bath area to the lagoon while nearly naked. But that is part of the experience. No ill effects at all. If you go, try to take the first bus from Reykjavik to avoid crowds; your hotel can advise regarding transportation. We were just steps from a bus stop that took us to the terminal where buses depart for the Lagoon. We had made reservations (needed) through the hotel reception. Enjoy !!
@@phil2u48 Thanks for the response. My bucket list as of now is seeing the northern lights, that is one of the things I have to witness before I go (cause you never know when is your last day in this world) and while I was aiming for Norway/Sweden it seems like it might be a bit more of a mission to get to the northern parts of it so it looks like Iceland just might be my best option and well the blue lagoon just looks amazing to experience, so might as well knock two birds with one stone.
@@lexluth89 My travel buddy wants to rent one of the glass domes to view the Aurora, but I just don’t believe I can go there in the winter months. We had planned to go again in the summer, but COVID arrived. Iceland is much closer than Continental Scandinavia. As for the Blue Lagoon, you know it is man-made. You may want to consider one of the natural hot springs; we went to one of those as well, but it was not nearly as “nice”. Safe and happy travels wherever.
The secret lagoon is a beautiful natural hot spring. They have changing facilities and it's the same price as a public pool. Even weekdays in the summer are mobbed at the blue lagoon. I would pay $20 max to go to the blue lagoon again. Overrated.
I had a wonderful time in November. It's so chill. Definitely unforgettable. The entry is limited and they recommend booking in advance always. So crowd control isn't really an issue any time of year.
That smell is called sulfa, where I live in outback Australia we have a natural hot spring in our town, it's man made but the water that comes up is natural and naturally hot. We call it at bore bath bc the water comes from the bore under the ground. The ones here aren't that pretty colour but probably have the same mineral properties, and are free and get cleaned from algae weekly.👍
i was to iceland this summer and honestly it was amazing, and yes the blue lagoon water is that blue and warm, you can have your hand an inch under the surface of the water and you wont be able to see it
I noticed at the beginning of this video, he was walking on lava moss, which in Iceland is a big NO NO!!!! The lava moss takes hundreds and hundreds of years to form after a volcanic lava flow, and is very fragile. If anyone steps on the moss, it is ruined and will take hundreds and hundreds of years to re-form.
3:48 please tell me this is cell phone video... I want to see this once in my life but I always think it's just a camera trick or fancy editing... Are the colors really that vivid? I must discover for myself!
The price is definitely over priced however, i have been to the lagoon and it is basically a massive jacuzzi. The gift shop is over over priced. It is definitely worth going if you go Iceland!
I've always wanted to visit the Blue lagoon. I feel like spending enough time in that water I'll be reborn into a better version of myself. Cheezy, I know.

@@phil2u48 So newsflash, just got me a flight to Iceland on the second week of March and I am so stoked. I can’t wait lmao
The guy at 3:30 looks like George W. Bush
extreme cold and warm water.......AWESOME
The secret lagoon is a beautiful natural hot spring. They have changing facilities and it's the same price as a public pool. Even weekdays in the summer are mobbed at the blue lagoon. I would pay $20 max to go to the blue lagoon again. Overrated.
I had a wonderful time in November. It's so chill. Definitely unforgettable. The entry is limited and they recommend booking in advance always. So crowd control isn't really an issue any time of year.
0:42 is.. is that what I think it is?...
I’ve been here. It’s he best. It was so relaxing. I recommend you go try it
i was to iceland this summer and honestly it was amazing, and yes the blue lagoon water is that blue and warm, you can have your hand an inch under the surface of the water and you wont be able to see it
I hear that the water smells really bad
Is it true?
Star Cherry yes, only when hot water is near or running (in your house) you’ll get a smell of rotten eggs!
It’s from the sulfur from the lava. It has that volcanic smell but you get over it.
Spongebob: Goo Lagoon
Real Life: Blue Lagoon
Go to the Blue one 😏
The Banff skywalk was actually pretty cool, it was just days when everyone wants to see it at once.
I’ve been there. Was definitely worth the price don’t listen to this guy
3:48 please tell me this is cell phone video... I want to see this once in my life but I always think it's just a camera trick or fancy editing... Are the colors really that vivid? I must discover for myself!
I wanna go this year! Cheap prices wow. My dad will say yes! :D
That looks amazing!
I also want a job like these guys...
😣
The price is definitely over priced however, i have been to the lagoon and it is basically a massive jacuzzi. The gift shop is over over priced. It is definitely worth going if you go Iceland!
00:42 - and I Oop 😮
Abel Ricardo shut up
I've always wanted to visit the Blue lagoon. I feel like spending enough time in that water I'll be reborn into a better version of myself. Cheezy, I know.
