You're a gem amongst the other gardening channels because you always tell us what you charged and that is a great help for those who are lost when it comes to pricing jobs. Thanks a lot mate, you are appreciated.
We've all been there and underquoted, I still do it now 😒 I think £40's a fair price for fortnightly... My rule of thumb now with initial visits (depending on current condition) is 3x the maintenance price so would've been at £120
If you can pass that on it would be massively appreciated thankyou. I have a small business that i have set up for myself and my son so any help would be brilliant
I would have been tempted to charge £160 but would have edged all the paved areas and sprayed the block paving weeds off with roundup in order to get every thing tidy from the off. For what you did even then I rekon its easily £100.
Great video.. yes it's all very well people saying you could have charged more and I'm sure you could but if you really want the job of and easy convenient regular mow it's probably worth the effort on the first cut.
I always have 70 litre refuse bags from screw fix £8 if I fill the bins I always tell people if there’s any waste won’t go in the bin I bag it an stack them out of sight, then they can empty them into the bin when it’s empty I don’t this at all mine from day one and never have problems
I've been a gardener for over 10years and did similar to yesterday charged £60 for 2 to 3 hours work so under charged myself as it was a graft so don't worry lad..
Hi, hope my little input helps, I`ve had mountfield mowers when I first started then Hayters for 20 odd years, but now the best mowers I`ve ever had for the price etc are the Weibang 3 in 1 mulch mowers, They are the only mowers I have not had to Speed up , fix, repair buy new parts etc....Yet... Had them over 2 years now and not touched them apart from oil change and sharpening, 6 gears that work and go from from a steady walk to you carnt keep up with it, we mulch everything we can, saves removing grass/leaves etc. starts first time, single height adjustment and pulls good.
Have you seen these fold up trolleys with the wide bottom ,they are great for moving these heavy bags ,I use one saves the back ,it folds up to fit in your van ,rated at 240 kg ,jimmy Aust
Think if that's going to be an on going job £70 for a first visit is OK.. you will pull it back on the regular visits 🤞.. as for the waste I always have a few dumpy bags and if I fill the bin I will use a bag and just leave it there till the next visit then filter it into the bin . . Think as long as your cracking plus £20 an hour your good... think if you would of said £100 to start they would of said no ..and I always on the next visit I'll do the edge or tidy the bushes... works for me so far. 👏👏 if I'm honest I might have said £75/£80 and if it's every 2 weeks if you do it in an hour £40 is good money regular work...👏👏👍🍻 I would suggest a wire wheel strimmer head to go over the paving really cleans it up well .and suggest that the customer gets some weedkiller and sprays it on the paving cracks etc ...
Good vid, defo could of charged a bit more here but you win some and lose some.. Also instead of using tonne bags for grass, go on ground master and order the small heavy duty green waste bags, much easier to handle. Keep up the good work 👍🏻
Here in Australia that would be $80 as a fortnightly regular, probably $200 the first cut (90mins work tops). Regular would be mulching take about 25mins tops.
@@TheGreyGardener1990 yeah I got a honda izy it's lot better and cuts well bit slow but ok for me as i don't care to rush really these days .it's 18 inch I think so good for most gardens and I only do about three large size ones so doesn't bother me really.i did think if getting a styhl but went for the izy instead.
You should charge for taking the rubbish, or you could suggest that they get compost bins or create a garden rubbish area, the garden looks big enough to accommodate. I like it when gardens have a rubbish area. So much easier. I've done the same underestimated the rubbish and under quoted. It's difficult to judge on a first time.
Good job slightly under quoted first visit but £40 per fortnight about right. Although half mooning all that path and clearing up next time i think will add extra 30 mins to the job so bare that in mind mate. Also weed kill the block paving at no extra cost (check for pets) will make it look miles better.
Hi Ricky, yeah I've cut this quite a few times now. This was filmed early spring. Customer sprayed weeds as I don't have my licence and yeah it did add another half hour or so on. Not fussed though as happy to secure the garden.
I've been doing garden maintenance for over 20 years. I think £70 was ok personally. Plus you will get regular work from it and maybe another new customer out of it.
Great channel firstly and appreciate your honesty, can I just ask what do you do in the winter to earn money? Grass doesn't need much of a cut then. What other services do you offer?
The customer is dealing with the weeds. I don't have my spray licence so can't use weedkiller. Occasionally I strim the bigger weeds if they haven't done anything with them. It needs a good jet wash really but the customer is happy with just the grass cut currently.
Yo man, I've made the mistake of taking customers waste away when there bin is full and such. Now I fill rubble bags with the help of a rubble mate and leave it for the customer.
Price wise. Bang on. Around £70 first cut and £40 there after. I'd suggest you try and invest in a proper lawn edger instead of a half moon spade. Soooo much quicker. But I realise it's all ££ so a half moon will do for now I guess. Don't worry about under pricing. We all do it from time to time and we all learn from it.
@@funkyduckproductions.8844 The problem with overgrown edges is you can't see the edge of concrete or bricks. With a power tool your just gonna smash them up. So I prefer a hand tool to carefully find the edge. Power tool there after for speed and better finish next time.

Any grazing animal keeper would gladly take those grass cuttings off your hands. As a horse owner we actually buy cuttings from locals , especially with the weather, there is no grass in the paddocks
My reply got deleted, but I'll try again - this is a very dangerous and misguided thing to suggest. Cut grass can give horses colic and laminitis, both of which can be fatal. Do. Not. Do it.
@@Miss_Toots I guess you mean 'heifer'. It's up to you what you do. I've been around horses for nearly 40 years, seen it happen, more than once. Besides the fermentation, you have no way of knowing what else is in the clippings. I cut plenty of grass infested with ragwort.
