    So Lawler was the first to leave a major wrestling company with the physical belt out of protest before Flair did in WCW with their world title.

    • @mrf19741
      @mrf19741 6 лет назад +1

      Technically, Lawler refused to work with Verne Gagne or return the belt until he was paid from Super Clash 3, which Verne refused to do. In Lawler's case, he stayed in his home territory with the belt. Ric Flair's contract was not renewed by WCW and Bill Herd, who was running things then, demanded that Flair return the Championship Belt. Flair told Herd that he would if he gave him back his $25000 security deposit for the belt, which Herd flatly refused to do. So therefore, Flair kept the belt and took it to the WWF.

    Thanks for the video's. We were in the Southern part of this Territory. A lot of the TV programs we received were from this promotion. Poor George Gulas was obviously out of his element and it was always awkward watching him. Jackie Fargo and Jerry Lawler were always big. One of my favorites was Tojo Yamamoto.

    Note Jimmy Hart appeared as a manager in Georgia this was that lull time after Crockett Purchased it off McMahon and slowly merged and absorbed it to Mid Atlantic totally. You can reference Hart managing the Long Ryders the Irwin brothers as National Tag Team Champions Ole came out of retirement as guest host of TBS and teamed with Thunderbolt Paterson to win the titles. Hart split for WWF and the Irwins went to AWA. Then Ole turned on Bolt to team with Arn and beat Manny and Bolt for titles with Arn ... four horse men yadda yadda yadda

  • @psychosem17
    @psychosem17 7 лет назад +5

    When you say that the area's top title was the Southern Title that is correct, but what you have pictured there is actually the short lived CWA World Title, not the Southern Belt. The CWA World Title was brought around in 1979 by Jarrett in order to have some unification matches with the AWA, but the plan really didn't get off the ground with Lawler missing most of 1980 after breaking his leg in a backyard football game.

The Memphis Fargos were the originals: Jackie and Sonny, aka Roughhouse. They wrestled all over the country in the '50s and early '60s, including in NYC for Vince's dad.

      Brent W That East Tennesse territory you are referring to is an interesting one. Only fans that grew up in East Tennessee or hardcore wrestling fans have really ever heard of it. But it is a cool one. Whitey Caldwell and Ron Wright's feud lit that territory on fire. Caldwell was a mega babyface in that territory. And he looked and was a normal guy. Ron Wright was such a hated heel there that fans had set his small airplane on fire that he used to fly from town to town to save time. Now that is HEEL HEAT!

    • @diggitydave75438
      @diggitydave75438 7 лет назад +4

      The Continental he is referring to in the video is the CWA (Continental Wrestling Association) which was a territory that primarily operated in West Tennessee and Kentucky, as well as Northern Alabama that was owned by Jerry Jarrett & Jerry Lawler. The Continental you are referring to owned by the Fullers was Continental Wrestling Federation/Continental Championship Wrestling/Southeastern Championship Wrestling/Gulf Coast Championship Wrestling (It was known under each name at various times). That territory operated out of Alabama and East Tennessee primarily and was owned by Roy Welch and Buddy Fuller from 1954-1959, Lee Fields from 1960-1978, Ron Fuller from 1974-1980 and 1985-1988, and David Woods from 1988-1990. This "Continental" territory is the one you are thinking of ran by the Fuller Family.

    • @lothar34
      @lothar34 7 лет назад

      Thanks for clearing that up. I remember watching Memphis on tv with Lawler, Dundee, and a super skinny young Jeff Jarrett, but don't remember it called Continental at all. To me,Continental Wrestling was Knoxville around 86-90 ...Bullet Bob Armstrong, the Stud Stable, Dirty White Boy, Doug Furnace, Buddy Landel, Adrian Street and Wild Cat Wendall Cooley. Would be awesome if you did a doc about them

    This was the best wrestling organization of the 70’s & 80’s and early 90’s because WWF integrated with the USWA that’s how HULK HOGAN HBK STONE COLD THE ROCK The undertaker , KANE , JT ICE 🧊 WOLFY D ,RO DOGG JESSIE JAMES ,TOO SEXY BRYAN CHRISTPHER , SID VICIOUS ,SCOTT HALL AUSTIN IDOL, TOMMY RICH 🤑 DUTCH MANTELL , double J Jeff Jarrett , Randy Savage , JACKIE FARGO , STING 🦂 THE WARRIOR , Rick Steiner Pure class Mr Winkle THEY CHANGED THE LANDSCAPE OF PROFESSIONAL WRESTLING 🤼‍♀️ THEY MAIN EVENTED WWF AND WCW DURING THE 90’s memphis Tennessee was on fire 🔥 on Monday nights during the 70’s 80’s 90’s it died because WCW & WWF went prime time on Monday night and they basically had all of the talent

    • @diggitydave75438
      @diggitydave75438 7 лет назад +1

      Fat Harold Wrong Continental dude. That one was in East Tennessee where Whitey Caldwell was the chief babyface and Ron Wright as the top heel. You are refferring to Continental Wrestling Federation/Continental Championship Wrestling/Southeastern Championship Wrestling/Gulf Coast Wrestling that was owned by a handful of different owners during its existence from 1954-1990, specifically the Fuller Family during various periods. He is referring to Continental Wrestling Association that operated primarily out of West Tennessee (Memphis), Kentucky and Northern Alabama owned by Jerry Jarrett and Jerry Lawler. Thing is the Continental you are referring to was a pretty obscure territory that either only hardcore fans have heard of or older fans that are from East Tennesse that know that territory. But those fans have generally heard of the CWA also. The "Memphis Territory" was only known as the CWA for about 10 years, otherwise it had other names but again fans that know CWF/CCW/Southeastern/Gulf coast territory have generally heard of it.
