This song fits the map perfectly. Your blood better be fuckin' pumping when you enter this map because it is non-stop combat right from the word go. And I fucking *dig it*
Yeah, it's been a whole month, but I can assure you that this song "On the Edge" will really get your adrenaline pumping. How do I know? If you face enemies like this... it would REALLY kick your fight or flight response into high gear. The choice between the two is obviously up to who's who and no two choices are the same.
My Man! Ive been a fan of ALL your covers, since that "Entering" from BTSX I was blown away. I have been making gameplay videos with your Doom and Doom II covers, and some others as well; Ive always redirected people and my subs to your channel and the cover used in them. Sorry for not asking for the usage before, but this time I am doing it formally. ¿Can I use a fragment of this cover for an intro? This one Captures Fast paced action for a brief intro of 10-15 seconds. Regardless of the response... Cheers! your Music and Covers should have more recognition!
Woah, this was really cool! And it's the very first time I hear this song played on real instruments, since unlike the other stuff you did, I never got around finishing this piece. I wrote it back in 2009, 2010, or something like that, I had this lick that I played on a Whammy (in fact, if you would go through the original Guitar Pro tab, you would see instructions about what to do with the Whammy pedal) and then built up some rhythm versions of that lick for the rhythm sections, then wrote some drum patterns. When I started providing music for D64D2, I found this missing gem and spiced it up, I added that whole solo segment and reworked the drums because the original was just a single pattern. I don't blame you for not doing the original solo as it was, I wrote it pretty quickly to upload the MIDI to the forum thread of the project and never bothered checking if it's even possible playing it on a real instrument (I found out I can't haha!), I just wanted something that sounded groovy, but to be honest, I never thought people would pick up my MIDIs and start recording them, and I'm immensely humbled by that. This has been a special day for me, finding out people are appreciative enough of my music to dedicate time to bring them to life. Thanks a lot for that, you made my day, sir.
MAP09 - Even SImpler, a complete homage to Doom II's MAP07 - Dead Simple. In Doom II, you get to face only 2 enemy types: Mancubi and Arachnotrons. But in Doom 64, you get more than just 2. You get Cacodemons, Mancubi, Hell Knights, Barons of Hell, Pain Elementals and Lost Souls. The Arachnotrons, on the other hand, are not present (Which is a bummer) for some unknown reason. The main battle tactic is this: Fight them in 3 separate waves, avoid their attacks as best as possible, don't miss your shots when firing your big boy weapons such as the Super Shotgun, Chaingun, Rocket Launcher and Plasma Rifle, even the Unmaker if you so happen to acquire it within MAP29 - Outpost Omega, and most importantly make sure you don't DIE! (The BFG doesn't appear in Even Simpler upon further inspection and it's also a bummer.)
Thanks! Also, I went looking around and managed to find the FLAC/master-track that I had rendered out back then: mega.nz/file/QXcXxJKK#qrgsvTCShBTAepJd4VIiHTIUASDaTuxfR8UURcWTu2s Enjoy! ~DAR
@DAR-Davester2296 Thank you. I will be checking out more of your stuff. Don't be surprised if you get more download requests from me in the future. Keep rocking!!
if you cover every single piece of music from d64d2, could i make a music pack for d64 retribution that replaces the tracks with these? your covers are so good i love them
Well, I've got good news for you then! I actually completed my D64D2 Marathon back in 2022: ruclips.net/video/QnuAhZZ9hUc/видео.html I've also made a music pack WAD for it as well, which can be found over on Doomworld, or on my wordpress site: theofficialdavester2296.wordpress.com/2016/06/26/dars-doom-marathon-music-mod-for-doom-doom-ii/ And sure, feel free to put together a music pack for D64 Retribution =). Just make sure to credit me, as well as the original composers of the tracks too.
Long ago, I was watching through a Doom 64 playthrough guide (by RUclipsr BigMacDavis: ruclips.net/p/PLR2vpfke_UnBLqbkyxTtMw2hH82Ey8pz7&si=J2XktJzAs4FLdzGn ) trying to gauge which of these Doom 64 for Doom 2 music tracks would've been most fitting for each of the official Doom 64 maps, with the aim of arranging these music tracks in a manner similar to building an album out of them 1st (where the tracks are played in sequential order, starting with a strong intro track for the 1st music track, then toning it down in terms of intensity, then building back up to a strong finale), before then considering how they would've fit within each level's overall design theme 2nd. Personally, I had found that there were enough music tracks in the whole Doom 64 for Doom 2 soundtrack that I had felt that there wasn't any need to use any Doom 1 or 2 music tracks to fill in the blanks, instead, opting to reuse music tracks from this soundtrack for all of the Doom 64 levels (much like what had been done with Doom 1's, Doom 2's, and TNT Evilution's music tracks). ------------------------------ As for this music track, here's what I had thought about it: On The Edge sounded so upbeat, so energetic, and so "angry" that I could've easily seen this being ideal for use on the 1st level of the 1st episode, if Doom 64 was divided up into episodes like with Doom 1. In fact, methinks it would've fitted in even better as a 1st-episode-1st-level music track than Extradimensional Beings would've, since On The Edge felt less melancholic and more, er, "angry" than Extradimensional Beings did. ------------------------------ As for which maps I would've used this music track for, methinks it would've been these: Episode 1: MAP01: Staging Area - Like with E1M1: Hangar from Doom 1, and MAP01: Entryway from Doom 2, I felt that the very 1st level of Doom 64 needed some likewise energetic music to start the whole game, and On The Edge seemed like the best fit, with Extradimensional Beings being a fairly close 2nd choice. Episode 3: MAP22: Burnt Offerings - Since this was the 1st level in Doom 64 that seemed to take place within the fiery depths of Hell, as indicated with the skybox, I opted for the return of the theme that I had previously used for the very 1st level of Doom 64, not only to evoke a sense of nostalgia upon the player after having cleared so many levels (much like how MAP15: Industrial Area from Doom 2 brought back Running From Evil as its music theme), but also because this level was pretty monster-encounter-heavy, featuring a courtyard that gets revisited frequently, along with so, SO MANY Arachnotrons.
If Doomguy didn't have Hell PTSD during the events of DOOM 64.

the intro part sounds Completely out of a anime opening
D64D2 was an interesting take on Doom 64 with the classic metal tone, but I don't mind! Plus, On The Edge is always a killer track!
Thanks a lot for that, man! I'm really proud how this song turned out and this cover blew my fucking mind!

Nice music for doom intermission screen

On The Edge sounded so upbeat, so energetic, and so "angry" that I could've easily seen this being ideal for use on the 1st level of the 1st episode, if Doom 64 was divided up into episodes like with Doom 1. In fact, methinks it would've fitted in even better as a 1st-episode-1st-level music track than Extradimensional Beings would've, since On The Edge felt less melancholic and more, er, "angry" than Extradimensional Beings did.
------------------------------
As for which maps I would've used this music track for, methinks it would've been these:
Episode 1:
MAP01: Staging Area
- Like with E1M1: Hangar from Doom 1, and MAP01: Entryway from Doom 2, I felt that the very 1st level of Doom 64 needed some likewise energetic music to start the whole game, and On The Edge seemed like the best fit, with Extradimensional Beings being a fairly close 2nd choice.
Episode 3:
MAP22: Burnt Offerings
