I loved this video, Jackie. As someone who is not from the US, I always found it baffling how much money is spent on kids’ birthdays and Christmas and Easter baskets and Halloween etc. My four year old had only one wish for his birthday - a Lego set costing 20€. For a moment I was thinking what else could I get him because it just seemed such a small gift. But it was the only thing he wanted and them I just felt silly thinking about getting him extra stuff just because the gift he chose was so cheap. We then gave him the Lego set and a book signed from me, my husband and my eldest son with a special birthday wish (we have decided we will give one signed book for each of the kids’ birthdays instead of a happy birthday card) and he was so happy. Sometimes us parents want to just treat the kids way too much and we just forget about what the child truly wants.

Love this and agree with you so much on all of this! The Easter thing really frustrates me - why are Christian parents giving their children presents on Easter, making it about the kids when we should be making it about Jesus, remember his ultimate sacrifice? It’s beyond me.

I agree so much in regards to activities... I did 3 sports growing up and would defend sports and extracurriculars till i was blue in the face... as I've gotten older, I've realized just how self centered I was abs how little I thought about service and giving back.
I have family that have there kids in EVERYTHING and it dominates their lives... they don't serve in their church, they don't help the grandparents, they don't volunteer, its just all about their kids and what do you know, their kids are very self centered.

I am a homeschool mom to a 7 year old daughter. She is my only child and because I'm 44 I'm not having anymore. I was also raised in a very dysfunctional household where I never felt safe and my emotional needs were not met. Once my parents divorced my mom was not bringing in much money so we were also poor. Now, I'm in a very loving, stable marriage and have vowed to never have my daughter feel the way I did growing up. My husband makes great money and I think all these things play into me probably going slightly overboard with my daughter. I really want to work on this though. I am proud of the fact that we do embrace slower living and do not have her in a bunch of activities. I truly enjoy being around her so I love to just hang out with her and do simple activities like planting flowers or arts and crafts.

You say an unpopular opinion, but I agree with you. And I think many others do as well. 😊
Some of my favorite times is when my daughter and I go to the park and watch the animals. We live near a pond so there are a lot of different water fowl to watch.

Hi! First of all, love your channel. I'm also a homeschool mom loving this season of life!
I agree with you 100%!! It's so hard to find likeminded people nowadays.
In my circle I am the odd one. I have actually had to tell family and friends to NOT bring presents to my kids or give them money without my permission. And if they adamantly want to, they have to give them to me without my kids knowing and I will be the one to decide when to give it to them. Everyone always looks at me like I'm weird lol.
By the way I laughed so hard at your kids loving to clean the toilets lol! I wish mine would like that from time to time 🤣

    Thank. You!
I always tell my kids that when they go to college they are NOT going to be the roommate that doesn’t know how to do anything!

I love everything you said and you said it very well! Much better than I could have as I would have lost my cool explaining to people that have no respect for you or your family so Kudos to you❤. I homeschool 3 boys 7, 5 and 1 and am very practical and teach life skills just like you do and I love and respect your videos.

I guess I am in the unpopular opinion club! I agree these points.
My family spends lots of time just being at home, even when the school work is done. And the free time is great!
