I see all the rust on the cars you work on and it reminds me how lucky we are in the south. I bought a 1987 BMW 325i for autocrossing and it had zero rust on it. If that thing were a New York car it would have been to the crusher many years ago.
It's nice to hear it as it is. You prove every auto repair you perform. that's why I like your channel. I could care less about the money or perks. You are a genuine mechanic with a fathers background to prove it!
I've watched several vids for a Nissan Xterra wheel bearing and they all showed the version with the drive axle I found yours and it was the same hub as the one I had for my Xterra. I jacked the car up and it was a cinch. I used hand tools and it still was easy, except for that plug. thank you
Thanks for the video. Just did my driver's front bearing on my 2WD. I couldn't fit my impact behind the hub, but maybe I didn't turn the wheel enough. It was easier than I thought to use a breaker bar on the hub bolts and caliper torque member bolts. Got the speed sensor clip off with a small needle nose squeezing from the very top. To bust the hub loose I hammered from behind the hub on the rear side (caliper side) of the control arms, but the other side is blocked by the dust plate. I ended up hammering on a 6" or 9" extension against the back of the hub through the sensor cable hole of the dust plate to get it loosen up.
*PERFECT* Valentine's day for me. Wife is out of town, No kids, T-Bone steak for dinner, ❤BiG NaStY❤ and ❤New Brake Cleaner Fire Hose❤ on this gravy repair video. ❤❤ BEST Valentine's Day EVER! ❤❤
Thanks for the video. Mrs 05 frontier started making really bad sounds when turning, got it pretty much nailed down to the front wheel hub/bearing. This video helped a ton.
This helped...big time! Had to perform both right and left hub bearing replacement and while I was in there replaced both shock struts - the old fationed way. Removing the spring from the old struts. Anyway your video helped me save well over $1000.00 dollars. It's truly amazing the mark-up on this kind of service. Thanks again! 😊 Keep up the great videos, you're making a positive impact, and that's commendable. 👌
Another great video, happy to see a frontier video, tho I might be a little biased being a frontier owner. Being an Okie it blows my mind how much rust you have to deal with.
I have watched a hundred of your videos and if I ever own my own shop I would have my big nasty but every time I used it I would have to Blair that music you are the man
As a DIY'er I too have spent longer on connectors than the main job on various repairs. It can be incredibly frustrating. I think there should be a web site devoted to how to undo all the different kinds of connectors on different brands of vehicles. It could be a wiki, where everyone contributes. I think that web site would have tons of traffic if word got out that it existed!
Back when I was a kid, you just undid the spindle nut and popped the bearings out. Getting the race out was the hard part. But bearings were made to be repacked, and rarely failed.
Eric, I was waiting for the air hammer. This tool works. I align cars with this. Frozen tie rod nuts. I cheat, it's how I bust tie rod ends and ball joints. Carefully.
I've been using the CRC green (non chlorinated) for years... Never had a can spray like that! Im lucky if half the cans in the case even have nozzles. Rant over, awesome video once again!
I've just sat down with cuppa and sandwich to watch a professional at work. It looks like another day at the office for Mr. Eric O. But as always a great vid and thanks for the great entertainment. Stevie K
Good 'ol Nissan Fontier. I had a lot of trouble undoing that same clip on mine when I was installing the lift kit. Seeing you struggle with it makes me feel better about it.
Yeah, how many times have others been let down by leaving your comments & criticisms? It's all about the Advertisement money now Eric. Sure, you're going to have a criticism about what I say. Charging more money then you know what to do with is bullshit. You want to impress me? Give every single dollar back to your community. I think you are about the man who would do this. You still have my support. Eric, you don't require all these other shogun auto repair guys showing you anything. You are the best I've ever seen! I mean that! You and Mr's O love people and that is evertything!
thats such a great way to loosen those hubs from the knuckle. i've done this once and had to use the ratchet extension and the steering rack press trick.
Glad I'm not the only one you had a fit getting that wheel speed sensor unplugged. Took me longer to get that unplugged without breaking it then to replace the hub.
My thoughts exactly. I've never seen a can of brake clean shoot like that before. Wonder if it's a sales strategy? Oh well as long as it works. Happy belated Valentine's day to you Eric and Mrs O.
Had a similar issue on mine; noisy as anything, but no play, and no noise with the car in the air and no load on the bearing. A set of chassis ears clipped on each bearing carrier and a quick test drive soon pinpointed the culprit. When stripping the bearing down, there were two massive divots in the ballrace. Probably thanks to all them winter potholes.
Looking at the suspension parts in general but specifically the lower spring plate on the strut. I would have to ask " Where the Flake did my truck go ? " Nice job.
Surprised it didn't shimmy itself to death. Good work man. You have the same discipline that my father taught me when it comes to doing a good complete job and taking care to do it right! I don't trust nobody to touch anything on my ride but if I was dying, I would trust you with it...well, yeah, well ok. Just you though.
Doing a wheel bearing on mine tomorrow. Watching this to get psyched up for the job,. Don't have the benefit of a big nasty so probably gonna take a liiiiitle bit longer...
SInce watching your videos I have bought one of those wond lights and a chinese copy of big nasty, both very good tools. I am so jealous of how many tools I see in American workshops that we dont have here in the UK! I was surprised to see the unit comes with the ABS sensor!
Just finished a Right front Hub, Caliper and Hose replacement on a 2003 Explorer. What an adventure that was. But as it is a souther vehicle, NO CANCER!!!! Lulz!
Congrats! Finally a job that didn't consist of you fighting the rust for hours on end until you are completely exhausted and screaming Yo Adrian. Hopefully you made a few pennies on this one. Nice eyes and ears for the Big Nasty! Safety third. I saw Fluid Film in a Lowes in San Diego. What? Rust and mosquitoes don't exist here. Why do we need Fluid Film here? I don't need a Big Nasty, but I really want to get one from your Amazon store, because it is awesome. One day I will...after I get a few Nano's. Stay classy Dr. O & Mrs. O & the little O's.
Now that's entertainment! Happy Valentines Day to you and the lovely Misses O. But what do you get a girl who already gets all the brake cleaner and donuts she wants?
I love the way you add the perfect music for the scene not only educational but entertaining too lol. The big nasty would have taken care of the connector 😏
The job that took you about 10 minutes would take this DIY’er about 3 hours.... Very impressive. I never would have thought to remove the entire caliper assembly at once. Now I will....

@@TonyM-zi9rq He does doesn't he? I'm surprised anyone remembers that show. They use to air that show on PBS back when I was a teenager.
@@twn5858 I'm 49 and had never watched the show until my Dad last year when he mentioned it before he passed. But yeah he sure does lol.
Got an idea, when you use electric cleaner, have a old dialup modem sound effect for the videos.
If you made a grey tshirt with big nasty in the center that said south main auto around it, id buy it
That looked refreshingly straightforward compared to some of the others you've done.
I did not expect to see you here. Hello, sir!
Yep clive but had it been a ford or a VW the torx heads of the bolts would have been all rusted out. Hours of fun for the family is what that is.
Big Clive in the house !
This is how smoothly I always picture my jobs going. I usually prove myself wrong.
No doubt had a simple brake job, end links job turn into a 4 hr ordeal last week. Or spent 2hrs beating out a kingpin today.
Thanks Eric for allowing us to look over your shoulder and learn from a real professional. Your skill and integrity are always evident in your videos.
I know I don't record myself doing car repairs, but I'm always impressed what you're able to do without a stream of swearing
Using Big Nasty for the wiring removal!!! LOVE IT!!

it was like "Pew" and it broke

my next project is the wheel bearing on my 05 Subaru Forrester
Finally I can agree with you when you say "If I can do it you can do it" No special tools required so I think I could do that job.
“AND HE WRITES” Love your vijayos, and love the New York Patina! You’re awesome and keep up the good work, “LOVE ALWAYS”
I wish you were in my town; I would instantly apply at your shop for an apprentice. Learn from the master. But I guess this is the next best thing.

The Big Nasty & The Air Compressor!!!! Awesome video!!!
Been watching every day for months now. Every day I kearn something, If it would get cold enough here in SC I'd order a sweat shirt from ya! Lol!
Awesome. That new brake clean has got some serious power.
I bought those wizzy wheels you demo’d on another video .. awesome .. they’re also great for scraping paint/prep for painting the house too.
Love the smell of Fluid Film! I spray it on my biscuits and gravy. lol.
The brake clean looks like a friggin’ firehose!
I don't think it'll extinguish fires.

That was a beauty! Thanks for the new "Fire Hydrant" brake cleaner. Hope she makes more appearances! lol
Eric O with the noisy bearing! It's rare that I get any shaky bearings in the shop. They're usually just noisy with no play. I hate those...

Ice Cream
The bucket might be empty by the time she got it. Mysteriously sucked dry by some unknown creature on the way back from the store.
That was sucking some gravy! I bet you don't see many rear wheel drive only trucks up there. It's pretty rare to see one here in Pittsburgh.
Cool video thanks now I see what’s Involved in changing them from Byrnes thank you a lot
Eric, is it just me or could that have used new ball joint and tie rod end? It seamed to me there was still a lot of movement in that tire.
I admit when he said go to go. I backed it up to watch again and still went ummm looks like still got lots of play

You need a sheep sound for Fluid Film. (lanolin)
Bahah, not really.
I second this. A short "Bahhhh" would be hilarious
I thought of using a heated (hot laquer) sprayer with melted beeswax.
I think a brief 'chorus of angels' might be a better audio cue for the saving grace embodied by Fluid Film.
