Cute babies! Love the goat shed!
Thank you!
Love the house
Thank you, Liz!
Great video! We’re getting Nigerian dwarf girls soon
Thank you! That's great! They are adorable and seem like great goats. Will you be rotating them? I hope our goat shelter video helped you for a place for your new girls.
@@humbledhomestead yes they will be rotated. I’m looking for pallets now.
@@Meadorlivestock Be sure to post it, I'm looking forward to seeing it.
Exactly what I was planning to build. I have the pallets.
Awesome! Let us know how it turns out.
Good video! Good looking girls
Thank you for saying so!
Omgosh. I have something similar to that. Now I need to make it like thatish. I love hanging out with my goats.
So something like that an I have a heated goat house. I can build around that.
Great video
Thanks! We appreciate your comment..
@@humbledhomestead you’re welcome keep them coming in going To attempt a pallet build today I’ve got a baby needing it’s own area at night while it’s cold
@@BigEsfarm We also have our mobile goat shelter 2.0 video. It might give you another option or idea for building. ruclips.net/video/uA7WyRxFjsg/видео.html
Hope our videos are helpful to you. Happy building!
That's a nice shelter. I made a similar one but smaller. I think I'll switch to that corrugated roof. I put plywood on mine and it's too heavy to move.
Thank you! We used the PVC corrugated roof, it makes it lighter to move. Our side by side pulls it with ease. Here is the link to what we used. www.homedepot.com/p/Palruf-26-in-x-12-ft-Corrugated-PVC-Roof-Panel-in-White-101339/100032686 Let us know if it helps. Thanks for your comment!
Thank you so much. I was given 2 meat goats. And didnt have a clue what to do for shelter for them
Our pleasure! If you don't plan on moving it regularly for pasture rotation. I recommend making it a little taller. Thank you for comment, we greatly appreciate knowing we were able to help you. Congratulations on your meat goats!
Great job! We are looking to put a pallet barn a small one together so we can get goats.
Thank you! That's great! We love our goats and I'm sure you will enjoy them as well. I hope this video was helpful for you and your build. We also plan to build a more permanent pallet barn for our buck for the winter months. Be on the look out for that. Thanks again for your comment! Have a wonderful day!
What a nice shelter! How much did you spend in total?
Hello, everything was basically free. We bought some 2x4 and the ceiling. Maybe a couple hundred dollars? I'm not sure how much it will be now with the prices going up. Thanks for watching.
How did u make it mobile, trying to figure out how you are moving it, thx
Hello! The skids on the bottom are cut at an angle to move it. We pull it with our side by side with a chain. We have our goat shelter 2.0 that has wheels if you'd like to see that as another option. ruclips.net/video/uA7WyRxFjsg/видео.html
Very nice. How much head room (in inches) does a goat need? And what is the overall dimension for a goat house generally?
We now use it for our weaning area for our kids. We had a couple yearlings in it and it was fine for them. We have a mobile goat house 2.0 video you can look at that we also use for our buck and wether for rotational grazing.
I think you had it right when you said skids
Good video! What kind of goats are they? I didn't catch that. Thank you.
Thank you! They are Kiko goats.
How many pallets did it take
Hello! We used 2 pallets on the sides, 3 on the back, and 2 on the front. We used 9 pallets all together. We have a goat shelter 2.0 that we made as an upgrade. Be sure to check it out. Thanks for watching and asking your question.
skipped some step descriptions but otherwise a great structure
Thank you! Would be happy to assist with questions you might have on it. We made a 2.0 if you'd like to check that out as well.
How many sheep or goats will fit there ?
Depends on their size/breed and age. We used it for our 6 younger goats at the time. As they grow that will change but it all depends on your situation. Make sure your goats have proper room to meet their needs.
What size screws did you use
2 inch or 2 1/2-inch exterior screws would be best.
runners
Speaking from experience, my first goat shelter was also made of pallets. I also used three pallets deep and three pallets wide.
I've since demoed the entire structure for various reasons.
See below.
1. The walls are not strong enough to withstand 140 lbs goats pushing on rhem and climbing onto it.
2. You will need to insulate or cover the entire structure to protect your hay from getting wet and to keep the goats warm in winter.
3. Rats and mice love to nest in between the walls of the pallets. They will pull the hay in between the pallets to nest and have babies. They like to be near a food and water source.
4. You need to build a floor because the water will seap in from the rain and soak the hay.
Suggest either removing the inner layer of pallet blanks so that rats and mice cannot hide in between them or cover the interior with plywood and routinely drop rat pellets in between the pallets to kill the field mice that will come for the feed or to nest in the hay.
It is a nice cheap shelter to start with but definitely has its downsides. I'm rebuilding ours currently using 2x4s and fence pickets and will fortify with leftover pallet planks. It will sit off the ground on cinder blocks to prevent the floor from getting wetn and there will not be any crevices for mice to hide.
All the best.
Happy Homesteading ♥️
Thank you for your comment. This shelter is a mobile shelter and moved regularly. 1. We've never had an issue with our goats pushing on it or climbing on it, but it is something maybe for others to think about. 2. This was left open for summer heat to give air flow. We do cover it in the cooler/rainier months if used but our goats are located in winter housing in our barn.3. Again, this shelter moves, we have yet in 2 years experience have mice in our shelters. 3. this shelter moves so often they don't have hay getting wet were they lay. We loved this design so much we created a larger 2.0 version. I would do things a little different if this was a stationary shelter but its mobile for our rotational grazing. Thanks for your comment and watching. Happy building your new goat shelter. Blessings!
You failed to mention goats continually gettig their heads caught. In the pallets, fences, gates, tree forks, anywhere their heads shouldn't be.
you probably didnt need to spend a dime. pallets vertical on one side, then horrizontal on the sides/backside. and just get some mil plastic and staple top planks away and even wrap it up if you really wanted to.
I would rather build a pallet floor, then pallet the sides in and then flip it over and then create a new floor and use cheap free ply wood you can get on the floor. boom you have a winterized shed. that is wind resistant then top it with mil plastic stapled to the pallets to create a wind break/greenhouse. to keep the goats a superior temperature during winters and get a shade cloth that can be loosely secured over it in the summer.
Not easy to clean inside. Not tall enough.
We move it so often so there is no need to worry about getting in to clean it. Thanks for watching.
