A good Sherlock story for our times would be 'The Mystery of Who Voted Down Mr Wagland's Excellent Narration of Sherlock Holmes.' It's a mystery to me that's for sure.

It certainly wasn't me but sometimes people do it to remind themselves of which stories they like or didn't like so they can re-listen to only the ones they like. That way when they come back to listen but don't remember they can easily see and not have to start the book and then remember 5 minutes in that they didn't like it. 🤷🏼‍♀️🥰. Of course some people are just mean trolls but I'd like to think not 84 people would be ??

I agree. I too have noticed this on a number of Mr. Waglands video's. It is unfortunate because imo, Mr. Wagland does the best rendition of the Sherlock Holmes series!! Not only with different accents but with different dialects such as an upper class Brit accent vs. a commoner Brit for example. Two possible thoughts as to why this may be...
      1). Allot of Brit's have extremely high expectational standards; anything less then complete and udder perfection might be considered 'rubbish' or, in this instance, a thumbs down. Seems somwhat an unlikely reason, however a theory nonetheless or;
2). Perhaps it is from those whom also do what Mr. Wagland does. Maybe this is their way of attempting to derail the efforts of this channel for reasons that can only be 'justified' by themselves.
      And a 3rd...just trolls.
Anyway, thank you Mr. Wagland, you do an amazing job and those who enjoy your voice and readings will whole-heartedly concur. 🍻

Mr. Wagland, what a wonderful legacy you have left to this world. Although I have been an avid reader of Holmes for the bulk of my 71 years, this is the first time I listening instead of reading. You have made the old new again. You have taken all of us into a cozy armchair at 221B awaiting Mrs. Hudson to bring us a “Lovely cuppa” tea!

    How delightful! Thank you, Greg.
Interesting that Conan Doyle makes the point of refuting supernatural myths in several Sherlock stories (Hound of the Baskervilles for another), and then has those bizarre stories with Egyption mummies killing people and whatnot. As if he couldn't decide what to believe. Or did he just write those to cater to another audience?

Sherlock Holmes Stories Magpie Audio I remember reading a funny pastiche in which Watson was concerned about the reputation of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle (in the pastiches he’s usually Watson’s literary agent as opposed to Holmes and Watson’s actual creator) because of Doyle’s obsession with the Cottingley fairies and he was afraid that it would destroy his reputation, and so he asked Holmes to look into it and present Doyle with proof that the Cottingley fairies were fake, Holmes who was in retirement in Sussex read up on the basics of these “fairy photos” and sent Doyle this straight and to the point telegram.
“My Dear Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, Little girls are little liars,
These “fairies” are obvious paper cut outs from this same children’s book which I am sending you in the post along with this telegram,
I would strongly advise you to abandon this “investigation” at once.
      Yours Sherlock Holmes”

Yes, with my failing eyesight I have been thoroughly enjoying listening to the narration of Sherlock Holmes as I don't like the movie renditions - none seem to be able to create him as the books do & so I prefer to listen & see him in my mind's eye as Sir Arthur created him. This narrator has captured the tone beautifully!! So thank you very much for releasing these stories to us.

Having listened to almost all of Greg Wagland's readings of these stories, I am surprised how many of the characters in them have Scottish names, e.g. Robert Ferguson in this one.. Not surprising since Arthur Conan Doyle was born and grew up in Edinburgh, but I did too and not until now did I realize this fact. It is only when one hears all the stories that it becomes obvious.

Doyle's Sherlock Holmes fan as far as the printed word, and a many of my 35 years by some chance long fan of the Rathbone/Bruce films, this channel has made enjoying the body of work much easier and more able to relax and enjoy and completes my trifecta of Holmes enjoying lol. Your voice is perfect for Holmes, I can genuinely picture his thin frame and wise, furrowed brow when I hear the old time music in your accent and pronunciation. Id actually very much love to hear you somehow gather a few friends and redo one of the 40s radio dramas maybe. Just a perfect Holmes for sure. Big cheers to you and yours from Boulder, Colorado!

Allow me to ask about the other short stories from the Case-book. There are 12 in total and the playlist only has 6.

Six are still in copyright. I only record those works in the public domain. Please see The Case-book of Sherlock Holmes entry on wikipedia for more information.

the stories can be fun, but the drawn out details and grammar are difficult these days, to get through. The language is flowery to the point of florid and the infinite politeness, constant digressions and apologies make it almost unbearable. The English are so circumspect in their language. The custom is hard to abide.

@@sherlock_holmes_magpie_audio pardon me, but i love the stories, the verbose language, the antiquated sensitivities, its all part of the element. Did i complain too loudly? Sorry, it's on RUclips and gets shuffled in with the riff raff.
