Sick build! Interested to see more on the throttle slides and other little tweaks it’s going to take to make this a “street car”. I love it so far! Amazing work!
Loving the sound if the 4 rotor bowing my eardrums via my headphones. What a great day it will be to see you standing there with your own 4 rotor e shaft😊
I agree, seems like a vacuum problem to me as well. I think that's why throttle plates are butterflies. That way vacuum pressure balances out and helps keep engagement smooth. Maybe supporting the plates on a bearing surface on the back side would help, but I think that basically the throttle plate is getting sucked closed.
@@MatthewScur I don't know how this one was made, but the really high end race slide throttles are exactly like that. The slide plate rolls on linear bearings on its backside. Still makes setup and fabrication tricky to get the right clearances.
@@bennyb.1742 This slide throttle uses linear bearings on both front and rear of the plate. Have produced many slide throttles and racing with one for 14 years. I am in talks with him to figure out why its binding up. Could be dirt or needs a little more clearance.
bmw m3 csl type intake manifold would let you use variable length runners. provide ducting for cold air and allow more aftermarket filter options ie cone or panel however sound would be worse especially if it is not made out of carbon
Just an idea for the slide throttle. Starting with a new slide plate. Mark a smaller hole that is fully exposed at full throttle. Mark a center dividing line through the circle perpendicular to slide travel. Only use the full throttle open half of the circle. Draw a tringle from first opening point of the original big hole to the corners of your half circle. You could round the starting point of the triangle. The goal is to get a more gradual throttle opening with a smaller max CFM.
You running a ton of premix in that thing or what, because that initial start-up was crazy smoky with all that blueish white smoke 😬 Edit: ok good, resolved, but....why do you have a limiter set at 4k RPM for break-in?.... especially if you're going to keep banging against it...it would be more gentle for the engine to rev to 7k by itself on the off chance than to repeatedly bang against an ignition cut at 4k over and over, don't you think? The way he was driving it, it didn't seem like he was one to go abusing his freshly built motor anyway
Aloha my bro Rx7 has been my fave car my whole life I got the chance to own a couple but man you maid the dream come true with a 26b build Congrats bro ❤
Perhaps two throttle cable cams on a common shaft or some such arrangement will allow you to customise the opening rate and effort. Also, if you extend the pivot/anchor fornthe throttle position sensor further away from the back plate to create a triangle, then you can get WOT without the sensor limiting the travel of the throttle slide. You should be able to calculate the distance so you get 0-100% on the sensor and throttle simultaneously. Good old Pythagoras.

the ultimate street swap would be a drive by wire throttle set up, I remember I had the same issue when I ran twin weber 45s on my old Peugeot few years back, I messed about with the springs on the linkage with not much success because it would produce overrun issues where they wouldn't close properly. I ended up actually changing the pivot point on Pedal in the cabin, the extra bit of leverage just changed it completely. I also ran a sausage filter by ITG and I remember it said you have to OIL it before use (I never did lol) but I have no idea why they ask for this?!
Howdy RAD, So I just came from your old video regarding the vacuum advance on the older engine. My 12a has been having an issue where at idle I can almost make it to full throttle before the engine starts to sputter and stumble really bad. If I do push to full throttle, power completely cuts until I let off the pedal. While driving I can get to about 20% throttle before the problem starts. It's a Holley 600 on a ported RB intake and I believe a mildly ported 12a. Do you have any ideas? I had thought maybe the vacuum advance was hooked up wrong but I guess it's not.
Super rad bro ... i live in nc myself, atm i have a built miata on 30psi fun lil toy , but its also my daily so i try to only have it down a day at a time or do stuff i can do b4 i need to drive somewere , so i have not been able to go completely nuts on it 😅.. but i babbling sorry (ADHD) my point to this was , i want to build a repu as my next toy/mini truck so has a bed and can use depending on my driving 😂... but being we are so close to one another i would love to try n link up once i get to doing my repu project as i have never done a rotory b4 but i deff want to , and im the type to just dive in and listen and learn so yeah 😅..again i babbling my bad 😅... but yeah man much respect for what ya do brotha and what ya build.. i like to watch you , rob dahm , and the vargas brothers when it comes to rotory stuff ... anyway super dope build brotha ... peace and love all keep it rad stay safe and build on l8z famz and keep having fun
why do the slide throttle thats for racing not street driving itl b shit bro from new zealand and seen a few of them not good oh well heavy gas peddle not good u want easy soft smooth peddle
I feel like getting a lift in ur shop would be the best investment for ur sanity lmao.
dude built the 4 rotor with no lift?
That’s boss level driveway stuff
My God that car sounds good. I can't wait to hear it at full rip
Me to. Can’t wait to rip on it.

This is an awesome project. Motivating me to get out and work on mine, albeit only 2 rotors.
it might be the vacuum of the engine sucking the throttle plate to the rear plate

insane project, kudos to you for getting it going.
It was good to finally see it in person. Hopefully Johnny will take me for a ride once its done.
Glad you made it out and for sure.

Some RX7's are living their best lives

Love all the gauges insert and hearing it above 3k rpms.
It's kinda cool how it really does sound like a 4 cylinder at times

It sounds so good, congrats on putting this together what a crazy sounding machine 👍🏻

Eric try sanding the slide a little to allow more slop in your intake. if its three piece you can just make it thinner.

FYI 1.25 oz of premix wont cause that much smoke. I've had double that in my 13BT and it doesnt smoke while driving. You set injector dead times?
Oil pan leak is RX7 owner's nightmare regardless whether the engine is new or old.
You guys driving around in Smyrna?? That's my old stomping grounds!

Have you checked your fuel return line
Does it need an alignment? Looks like wheel is tilting to left

My 93 FD is cutting boost as soon it hit 8psi, what should I look for to find the issue?
How do you find all of these car events to go to. I have a modified fc and want to find events to go to that arent takeovers
Does the dude that is the owner is selling the white FB parked against the fence?
I believe itg is based in the city where I live, Coventry in England(UK)
Sounds sick
Good God it sounds soo goood!
can u put a progressive return spring on it
It's your thinking that's faulty. You can't give the keys to a 4 rotor to just anybody. The power is too much for grandma bro!
Sick bro
The slide throttle just seems like an inherintly bad idea ... cool car though!
If you get a mic, it will make your content infinitely better. Much live rotary brother.
I have one but it's in my trailer in Seattle right now. Only a few more videos of no mic.
Right on!
"sausage like" ayo?
Lube the slide maybe?
IDK
Velocity stacks .....
Teflon insert maybee between the slides 🤷♂️
Fuuckk what a machine
Oil issue ..it’s smoking 😮
cool 😎
