    Great video, I gave up on the game because my practice was great but my mental side bailed on me way too often, I didn’t know what player was going to show up. Came back to drilling, focusing on relaxing between each shot head to toe, and told myself every shot is game point, I do the same in every game now, no matter what just happened, my focus is dialed in now and my body is relaxed the entire match, my level of play has drastically improved, bad days are now decent instead of terrible. I don’t care about lighting,weather or people watching because every shot is game point.

    I drill like it's a game, and try to play games like I'm drilling. This elevates my drilling so that I drill with intention. Then during games I try to bring the tension down to drilling level.

    So relatable. As a 3.0-3.5 player I get 3 good dinks in then I try aiming too much and hit the net. Gonna try this. Thanks Tanner!

    I figured most of this out myself. I'm always wanting to tell my partner to just hit the ball low and into the middle whenever we get off to a bad start by trying to do too much, but it's not a message which seems to get much traction.

  • @DannyBPlays

    I like the sentiment of this but the impatient players are usually still good enough that their speedups will land in so it seems like it needs to be a combo of give a consistent dink and then prepare the paddle for defense. Ben Johns's defense/counters are such a marvel to watch, he basically lets them force it and then punishes them

    I think your suggestions of dink to the middle and drive at 70% to start matches are great. Thank you. Nerves are a big part of tournament play. Like to said, middle dinks don’t cross it front of anyone. Good luck with your professional pickleball goals Tanner. You have helped so many with your videos.

    Thank you. I've really struggled getting nervous in league play recently. Even though I am roughly the same level as the other players, I make so many mistakes. I don't recognize my own game and I leave feeling a bit sad, even if I won the match. Hearing you say this happens to you too makes me feel better and helps me realize and understand it's just nerves. I know I can fix it.

    Hi Tanner! I've recently taken up pickleball after a life long passion for paintball. I recall you mentioning in one of your vids that you had played some high level paintball. It made me think back to an episode of PTG where i remember hearing Marcello mentioned a player he was coaching who had massive potential making a shift from paintball to pickle. Would that happen to be you?

    Sorry for another comment…do you do any breathing or things like touch back wall etc to reset mentally? Even in rec play when things get tight I take a deep nose breath and do my tennis mental restart process to get me in focus. In some cases it’s helped me even come back in situations that seem near impossible to get out of.

    • @tanner.pickleball

      I personally do not but I hear people do!

    • @JournaloftheScotts

      @@tanner.pickleball was thinking of this today during a rec match. I do very much try and reset my mind right before points. It’s kind of like a runner having a routine. Tournament play I’m sure players get an initial adrenaline dump which can change your game play.

    What a disappointment. Subscribed to this channel for instruction since I am left handed and this is a left handed player. Had high hopes but after watching several videos, it seems like when giving detailed instruction, Tanner is more interested in holding the paddle with his right hand. During the actual exercise, of course he will have the paddle in his left hand with instructions reversed. Guess he's more interested in the masses to gain likes and sponsors than in providing detailed instructions thats easy to follow for lefties (and let the righties figure out how to accommodate).
    As an example, the Learn Topspin in Just 8 minutes in Pickle ball video, @ 22 seconds, he is holding the paddle in the right hand with the detailed instruction for right handed players. Why not show and explain for both left and right handed players. Not once does he describe how to hold the paddle for lefties. This totally sucks and I will unsubscribe.

    • @tanner.pickleball
      @tanner.pickleball  5 месяцев назад +1

      Is this a serious comment? This is a video on the mental side of pickleball. This has nothing to do with lefties or righties. What kind of disrespect did I do to deserve this?

    • @rosariarose4181
      @rosariarose4181 5 месяцев назад +2

      Why didnt he just unsubscribe and go away. Did we all really need to see this comment😂

    • @darlenestewart3149
      @darlenestewart3149 5 месяцев назад

      @@tanner.pickleball Yes Tanner, a very serious comment and not meant to be disrespectful. Posted it here since it was the most recent video and figured the best chance that you would probably see it.
      The comment was not about this video but rather the CHANNEL, which is why I referenced the Learn Topspin in Just 8 minutes in Pickle ball video. I will delete the comment from here but the concern is valid posted here or there .
      Going forward, perhaps give consideration to providing instruction and visual cues for for both left and right hand or just left hand and let the righties figure out how to apply.
      Thanks and sincere apologies.
