    Kathy,
    I made my first placemat today using your Framed Seasons pattern. I can't believe how great it turned out! Usually I make some dumb mistake the first time I try a new pattern but this one actually came out perfectly. Love, love, love it.
    I'm on my way to making many more now.

    Thank you for such an easy-to-follow tutorial. My sister wants 4 placemats for her apartment in Greece (over-looking-the-Gulf of Corinth)!! I'm the quilter sister. I like the mitre options. I used to struggle with mitred corners and your technique makes so much sense. :)

    this was such a great video. I get laughed at because I save batting scraps like material scraps. I have actually used more than a dozen pieces of batting for a quilted sham front. I just overlap a bit and then use a rotor cutter and no lumps or bumps or a box of useful batting pieces. I do quilt 1 inch apart to make sure I catch all the batting and it looks like a lattice work when finished. As a dare I used the batting bits and pieces stuffed into small bags and use as corner decorations for end of bed bolsters. I am no longer the scrooge of batting. lol thank you for the place mats, I can see the batting pieces lining up already. thank you

    I watched my grandmother make queen size quilts on her hand the 2x2 inch squares, the designs took my breath away because they was so beautiful. I will be making a quilt soon and I am planing to use your method as you go, but make it a queen size for this fall. I will try to post it on your face book page when it is finish. I would love to see a tour of your quilting studio if you have a video on it, because I love the way it look in the back ground.

    Prairie Sky Quilting's line of Fun&Done! quilt patterns uses a quilt-as-you-go technique quite similar to ours; "the quilting is completed while you construct each block... sew the blocks together and you're done"! You may also want to look into "Reversible Quilts", a book by Sharon Pederson. Her method of hooking the blocks together is very different but her quilt-as-you-go technique is the same. Hope this helps, safepethaven!

    Make sure to check the seam allowance. If the placemat is coming out big, the seam allowance is too small. The math works out to the edge of the batting, but having it hang over is the best problem; all you have to do is trim to the batting and you are on your way again!

    Great question, Marlene! Our website's in the process of being coded, so it should be live before Christmas which, if you can believe it, is only thirty-six days away! However, it just so happens that I'm currently eight months pregnant, so we're going to do our best to get some of our best-selling items online before he or she arrives. In the meantime, we'd be more than happy to do a phone order. Give us a quick call @ (517) 423-0053 before 4pm ET and we'll ship your order out the same day!

      I was just sitting down to reply to your email, D Simmons. :) We are considering selling our patterns as instant downloads in the near future, but we haven't yet decided on the best course of action. Since they're small and our shipping is based solely on weight, it costs (approximately) $.50 to ship one placemat pattern, $1.65 to ship five, and $2.55 to ship all ten. If you order before 3pm tomorrow, your order will be sent out in the afternoon and could arrive as early as Tuesday (depending on your location). If we do choose to sell them as PDFs, I'll let you know as soon as they're available. Thank you for your question and recommendation!

    I'm unclear how your foundation piecing techniques would work on anything larger than a placemat (a queen sized quilt for example); yes, it's quilt-as-you-go for a small placemat but those steps would not work for a larger projects; suggestions for alternatives?

  • @lunaargentina

    hi can i use pannolenci for batting?

    • @TheQuiltPatch
      @TheQuiltPatch  8 лет назад +1

      Based on what I just learned from Google, pannolenci or lenci cloth is similar to felt which, in our opinion, isn't ideal for placemats. Since they will need laundering sooner or later, it's hard to tell how the lenci cloth will react to being washed in a placemat. If you don't have quilt batting or fleece on hand, two to three layers of flannel fabric would work well. Good luck, Luna!
