@@DJRAINTREE Yeah he does, mostly in his drop D songs. Check out live versions of the Tourist, I Might Be Wrong and Pyramid song if you want to hear some
The Coronado was a Rickenbacher hybrid going for the 360 line, whereas the StarCaster was more of a Gibson ES-335. Sadly the re-issue of the StarCaster was not as popular and was also discontinued. The big changes in the re-issue is the loss of the master volume pot, and the change to a tune-o-matic bridge and tail piece from the Strat hardtail bridge pieces. I think there are wood and binding material differences between the old vs re-issue. Great guitars and a shame they did not catch on. Adding a Varitone to a re-issue or a Squier Classic Vibe is well worth it.
You say it come with a rosewood fretboard also? Have never seen one and can't find an image of one? Pretty sure they were all maple. Love to see a rosewood one though
These are great. I only wish Fender would reissue a true version of the original. Lightweight, with the master volume. With the wide-range humbuckers that sound more like the originals.
I’m right there with you, would love to own a well made reissue of this. Although, they have released the CuNiFe pickups which are a faithful recreation of the original wide ranges, from the A/B demos I’ve heard they sound exactly the same as the originals.
This is definitely not the same Starcaster guitar and amp combo that Costco had for $139 at holiday time a few years ago. Always annoyed me that they recycled the name.
I've never played an original but the Classic Vibe is an outstanding guitar. If you want it even closer you can swap out the stock pickups for Fender CuNiFe wide range pickups, they're like the originals.I believe the originals had 1 meg pots...? Overall even without mods the Classic Vibe is a rock solid guitar as-is.
About 10 years ago I was stopping by a local shop and someone walked in looking for a Starcaster. ''Huh?" No they didn't have one. Saw these in GP FMC ads but never saw one live. sorta cool
I think that Starcasters are one of the most mis-documented guitars from Fender. I have owned several. My '77 has been my got to for over 20 years. I commonly see references saying that the were produced from 1976 to 1980, though I have owned a '75 and have seen several made on 1974. The latest production year I have ever seen documented is 1978. I was surprised to see in this video mentions that they were offered with a rosewood neck in addition to maple. Even the Fender company itself seems to not have the facts straight. When the original promo video was released for the "reissue" of the starcaster, the fender rep said that the original Starcasters were full hollow body guitars. Has anyone every seen a rosewood neck starcaster? Or one made in 1979 or 80?
Dang G money❤❤❤❤❤❤ can i have it? Purty please😢 but the sunburst though😢 i have the squire classic vibes version of this and i love it. Only thing better imho is the OG. GANGSTER STARCASTER.
This model doesn’t come near the Gibson 335 lines. I like the “case candy” between Gibson and Fender competing on the hollow body market, like prehistoric dinosaur Indian wars. The humbucker tone and visual appeal give the unique show value for presentation quality, the guitar is stunningly beautiful in aesthetics but I thought the overall tone was grainy and split coils sound much better on a strat.
Luey Sixty-six I don’t work for them either but this site is a gold mine for vintage tone. I went from crunch tones to sweet clean just by browsing their collection.
Maybe you didn't play any one, it has its own personality, Humbucker semihollow sound "with twang", ES335 can't do that, I own a fender starcaster and a epiphone dot 335, and both aren't the same, in the Other hand, a strato semi hollow still sounds like strato, The Starcaster is another monster from the hollow country where 335 too lives.
Love the Wide Range pickups, nicely demo’d here.
I own a '76 natural finish Starcaster, and I have to say it is my all time favorite of all the guitars I own. I just love it!!!
Really nice to see the star caster getting some love
I have yet to see one with a Rosewood fretboard
Such a great sounding guitar. Love the wide-range humbuckers.
I love Mr. Phelps' playing style. More please.
This guitar will always be directly linked to Jonny Greenwood for me.
To you? To everyone.
I didn’t know he played it! I love mine even more!

I love these guitars, they can do anything you want them to do, from jazz to rock and even country. They also look so frickin' cool!

Nice and punchy clear but powerful sounds especially both pickups on
What a great sounding rig! Tasty playing too.
Dan Phelps is awesome!

Are you sure about that rosewood fret board? I gotta see that to belive it.
I want it!
How does the Squire Classic Vibe Starcaster compare to this one?

Everything sounded great except for that tube rattle. Nothing a couple tube dampening rings couldn’t fix.
😍

got one how did you make yours sound so bad
Sounds like a record to me.
iban stole the headstock for the roadstart series in the 80's
This is my next guitar. Only the squier version in walnut.
Those tubes are rattling! lol

I felt the exact opposite. Great tone, godawful aesthetics!!

I’d take the pick guard off immediately. Dude it even covers the f-hole. Stupid.
That tube rattle. hahaha Why are 99% of youtube gear demos recorded so poorly? It doesn't take that much effort.
Just goes to show.. even Fender can have a major brainfart!
Dont like the trumphead headstock
Change the guitar player. Please !!!
Are you sure about that rosewood fret board? I gotta see that to belive it.
They did not.
