Qlimax always puts together the most in sane sets and lighting shows. Cool to see it without all the set dressing on it yet. Phenomenal job programming all of this insanity.
Can I get an Equipment List for this? Like how many Lights of each type was used to construct this show? I would be very interested what equipment scale this stage is on :)
That would be insane to have. But just thinking of the amount of time to program is almost defeating!! But of occasional songs, this would be sooo dope! Great stuff!
You could get some budget software like showxpress from Chauvet to try out virtual shows on a small scale. :-) they'll begin by working out positioning of the lights and music. Next, probably using a virtualiser (software to let them see what it would look like on a computer) they'd work out positions for the lights at different points in the music, making them into "cue's " (a piece of data telling all the lighting channels what to do) and put them into a timeline (that's what's its called in showxpress. Its basically the same as a timeline) at the points they want them to happen. When the lights are connected to the computer and the show played, the lights will follow the cues in the timeline. Sometimes, say in a festival with a live performer, they will have a person hit the equivalent of a play button to start each cue...
James Ray i personally study stage and event lightning technics. Mainly i use grand MA 2 and MA 3D to visualize and design the lightning. It's a matter of effects. Positioning. Colours. Macros. Commands. Timecoding and creativity. It takes a lot of work to make these kinds of shows. For example. I've been studying grand MA for half a year now. And it takes me 4 hours in a row to first of all set up your lay out. Create effects and forms, create the stage you work with. Add fixtures the basic stuff and creating a timecoded cue of 30 seconds. Yes, mainly because i'm just a starter. But my only tip is: Keep on trying. You can try everything. If you don't like what you've made. Restart. And learn about your mistakes.
The way it is controlled is different. This will be timecoded. Lights are cued on and off via a computer whereas tomorrowlands operators will do it live by hand via a desk.

It’s like a lightshow programmed by an analytic board-operator. I miss every form of organic creativity. Obviously with the lack of any creative talent within the music, it’s hard to build something pretty. But this is just a showcase of many lights, flashing upon an uninteresting beat, shaping and changing color every step. Lighting design can be so much more, starting with a set that shows interactive movement that you can primarily lit. Anyway, happy to read a lot of people applaud you for this attempt, personally I would love to teach you the basics of lighting design.
I agree, but I think this is just something that you'll get with pretty much any timecoded show. Every look is trying to be different from the other because the programmer had time to program it. The "organic" part comes in when the operator is busking. Another thing to note is that this video isn't to show off the operators talent, it's a promotional video intended to give the idea of "hey look at all the stuff we can do". So it's not so much as to show off designs, but instead to show off as much as possible to make potential clients think "these guys know how to do stuff".
I think Cirque Du Soleil, Holiday on Ice and many others would disagree ;) The difference (and that's exactly what i'm trying to point out here) is that in a normal situation the operator doesn't decide on the show-looks and feel. They program what a sensitive designer addresses. As soon as the engineer/boardguy has a say in the looks, you get a show-off-competition. As shown in the video ;) Timecode can be very, very beautiful and well thought.
please watch the actual show from qlimax that they did to this music, in a packed stadium. You may not like the music thats just a matter of taste, but after youve seen that there's no way you could still say there was no potential for creativity to this soundtrack. intro buildup sequence: ruclips.net/video/TLwLJ1FaLMg/видео.html main part: ruclips.net/video/p5WyC1N2QoA/видео.html

Hello Sir,
This is by our team make this show ha,We are lighting company in China.
A show like this is timecoded. It's quite complicated and you need the right equipment.
Lots of cables, lots of programming.
