Travis is a winner! I think that he respects everything Evel Knievel tried in the past, I see this jump more like a tribute for Evel. Now, in modern times the real version of a "new" Evel Knievel is defenitely Travis! He has the courage, talent and charisma! I just saw yesterday this kid racing a Hill Climb at Goodwood in Sussex England, he was driving a Ford built for Pikes Peak, he got second but just after a super modified, ultra fast McLaren... Obviously the british crouds went nuts with Travis!
That wasn't duplicating it in any way shape or form. If he had have jumped it on the same bike (Triumph) same suspension, same take off ramp and landing ramp (lots skinnier and harder) And I'm quite sure he had some sort of idea on how fast he needed to go. Evel tried it in 100% more difficult circumstances. Are you kidding.

Evel actually used a Triumph Bonneville on his Caesars Palace attempt (basically a street bike with no mudguards & lights). Travis used a Indian FTR750 which is no lightweight, but really is comparable to the XR750 Harleys Evel used on most of his famous jumps, although Travis's suspension and tyres are in another world compared to the crap Evel (almost) landed on!! So who had more balls? Evel without a doubt but stout job to Travis, and I agreed, far more cred than doing it on a CR500
