It's sad what's happening to lots of towns these days. They are just full of takeaways, barber shops, nail salons, vape shops and bookies.

As someone who moved to Warrington from Scotland 7 years' ago, I love the transport system (direct to London, Edinburgh, Manchester, Liverpool, Chester) & how flat the georgraphy is. The town centre is quite modern, with lots of investment & the car park is very cheap - all big ticks! Plenty to do, lots of shopping outlets. On the cons, I'm not a fan of the drinking areas where the old nightclubs are - but i can see it slowly getting better. Really pleased to see the council are encouraging resotration of many old buildings - though the incoming sub-saharan migrant wave will drag it back down no doubt - seen some masked characters in broad daylight stealing bikes outside the council office. Palmyra square is nice - but they chopped half the trees down. The shopping centre has lost some appeal since Debenhams closed their shops & liquidated. Still, I'm quietly optimistic!

It’s funny how perception is different based in where you come from. I’ve read in the comments how some have stated that the town is run down. As an American who visited Warrington to visit friends, I found Warrington quite charming the people very friendly, and the town was very walker friendly (didn’t have a car) and loved that I was in close walking distance to shops and train stations 🙂

I lived in Warrington for 2 years, and we only moved back south last July because we had a child. Unfortunately every town centre is dying. Where we now live (Burgess Hill, West Sussex) is worse than Warrington by far. I loved Warrington, even if its dying, as Warrington is still a hidden gem. I have high hopes for the town, so Maybe one day it'll grow again.

Warrington. It's a shadow of its former self. The Council love fires here so they can hand out contracts to their builder mates.
It's a town of boxes in the centre now. Car washes, barber shops, filthy fast food shops (for the drunks) and foreigners pushing prams around on the outskirts of the town.
Millions spent on 'improvements' no one asked for or needed. WBC are going for city status.
Again, not wanted or needed. It won't stop WBC though. That lot are feathering their nest well and truly regardless of what the locals think.

Years ago I heardthat the corporation buses were specially made to a non standard, narrower 7' 6" width because of the narrow roads. Dunno if thst's true but makes sense. Most towns are on their knees now but it's a shame to see the decline.
