This was what I was waiting for since the release of the F-14. As you said, that's what the majority of active combat missions for the Bombcat actually were about. Yes, there was the Gulf of Sidra incident and IIRC in Desert Storm a couple A/A engagements, but the F-14 excelled in the AFAC role and providing CAS, with it's long loiter time...
But it will never match the speed of a human RIO who can quickly cue the pod to waypoint, search target, then track. While it is good that Jester than use the LANTIRN, it feels like you need to babysit him just to get have a target locked.
Lots of new things in this update, I'm going to have to watch this a few times to get it thru my thick skull, but thank you for the excellent tutorial....I'm still downloading the update
Hell yeah! This will open up the F-14, one of the most beautiful aircraft in the world, for so much more involved missions and dare I say campaigns for all of those Top Gun jocks in DCS.
Airports can be weirdly hard to find IRL too haha just kinda gotta look for a weirdly flat spot on the ground then get close enough to see if theres a runway!
Sorry, but mask comments are entirely wrong. Tomcat crews in the sim and reality were using MBU-14 masks, which were originally green in color as represented on release. In the late 80s, the MBU-14 began production in gray with a mostly uniform color, however these soon experienced various issues with the facepiece deteriorating. By the mid 90s most of those were swapped out with a newer material that appears with a two-tone look, darker gray by the mouth and lighter gray hose and hardshell. They were still designated the MBU-14 through their use. The F-14 A and B used the CRU-79 style regulator while the D model had an onboard oxygen generator system and used a different regulator, but they all used the same masks. I don't recall if any of the very last D model crews used the newer MBU-20 style as seen on the Hornets. The MBU-5 is very different, and had a crossing x-shaped strap setup over the outside of the hardshell. All you're seeing here is a re-skin of the MBU-14 to represent the mid-90s and onwards masks.

It's "just" additional lines in the input luas. I sincerely hope those mods will never trigger the IC, as I and many others have tons of such changes in our DCS builds, most of them to accomodate for the 2/3-way switches of our HOTAS hardware. An IC check on those files would literally brick all of my mappings with a lot of them totally being out of reach. HB though said it would not be possible to use those commands anymore way back, probably by having Jester override things, just like they do with TID radar ranges and mode settings - you can add the lines for all of that and use the commands, but he immediately switches back to what it was set to though his menu.
Hey Spud, which do you like better, the Mod to use Lantern by yourself or Jester? Have you been following the DCS AH64D video's? I'm one of the 64 Drivers for Eagle Dynamics behind the scenes, its going to blow everything else out of the water IMHO......... Rex

@@Millsprinkles569 The thing is even if it’s not completely classified the information may not be entirely reliable either. They’d probably rather choose to model only the aircraft they can model the best. Hi all, I recently bought F14 tomcat just to use the Phoenix long range missiles by launching the missile at 60 - 65 miles. What angers me is that when I ask my wingman to attack a single aircraft, it approaches 20 miles and then fires a phoenix. I did a test with an AI F15E wingman and it behaved the same way. I would like to know if there is an AI combat bug. P. S. Wingman launch settings MAX RANGE LAUNCH. I ask you why you have more experience thanks
Heatblur just needs to make the F-15E Strike Eagle and let the Tomcat be what the Tomcat was historically a CAP and fleet protector. It wasn't an attack aircraft and wasn't meant to be. I'm personally tired of waiting for Razbam's to release the Strike Eagle and I wonder if they are actually going to make in a 2 person aircrew. Seems to me that Heatblur has this figured out and could do a fantastic job with the F-15E. It won't happen I'm sure, but seems like an opportunity that was sadly missed.
The F-14 post 1996 was the most potent strike fighter in the US Navy inventory. F-14 squadrons regularly beat F/A-18 squadrons in bombing competitions and its range was instrumental in bombing the Taliban after 911.
@@Spudspike From my 12 years in the military I've got a different view on it than you. It did have success in Afghanistan with dropping ordinance but it was never the role that the aircraft was made for and that effort was seen by many as a last ditch effort to keep the popular airframe in the air rather than retirement. It didn't really work out for the F-14 in the end as it wasnt the multi-role aircraft it needed to be and it wasn't cheap to maintain either.
Did he say FAC(A) in the F-14? Did he really? ;) Well, depends ofc what era to simulate etc, but without the PTID, the resolution of the TID (not the LANTIRN itself!) is too low to really be able to identify ground targets that well, unless you're pretty much above them. But then.. wow, ruclips.net/video/ova_BGwKFIE/видео.html Holy crap, I'm quitting my job whenever it comes to the LANTIRN.. this is crazy, pilot gets a de-facto HMCS to get the LANTIRN to a point on the ground.. I really have no idea how I would be able to do that as a human RIO that easily.
