"I felt turbulence I swear"
Jester I love you x'D
He's an awesome cheeky b*stard! :)
when I was on like 7th go for the nozzle and missed again he gave me a "Use the force Luke!" line....I wasn't sure if i wanted to shoot him out of the cocpit or kiss him :D
Getting refueled by a russion antanov in a tomcat there is something not quite right about this..
Agreed. It weekens the fabric of reality!
Only way to preserve realism is to splash him once you’re done tanking
You may wish to set bomb mode to avoid the manoeuvre flaps from auto deploying, but well done on the refueling and staying with it!
ahhh good thinking Sir!
You'll get a gas tank full of sugar from those guys.
Chuck the wing sweep into bomb mode. Makes life (slightly) easier. That's what the real boys do when learning
Well done Cap!!! And I'm glad you remembered to "Put this away when you're finished" ;-)
I snickered a bit there as well. SUPERCAP!
lol
Reminds me of the Top Gun NES game refueling part...We have come full circle...
I remember that. Good old days
Oh man! I've been playing for a few months now and I haven't been able to latch yet. You've encouraged me to try it again lol
lol latch.. expression also used for babies that latch to the breast for milk.. i guess its the same, when feeling down and lonely you just need to suck that delicious kerosine to keep you going strong..u just need to calm yourself down, breat slowly and get that connection..
@@keepwalking6041 🤣🤣🤣 that's hilarious
Hey Cap, Love your videos. I wish there was more of a DCS community in Australia. (If there is and you see this let me know). I am slowly learning the F14 and refueling is one of the hardest parts, along with carrier landing.
and operating the radar. And dogfighting in tomcat. I find it all pretty darn hard, but then Im new to DCS.
Try OCG
@@cameronveraart9686 outstanding. You a member?
Good video as always cap, though i believe you also need to turn off the oxygen intake for the engine behind the fuel probe, as to lessen the risk of fuel vapors entering the cabin. Not super necessary for dcs, but thought id just make sure you knew
Interesting...
Yes, this is true! Some of the air sucked into the intake is used for the climate control in the cockpit. In real life you need to turn this off or you may risk some nasty chemical burns and watery eyes. @@grimreapers
I wonder if they modeled the possibility of a "broken probe" where the bird ends up having to come home and trap with a fuel basket still on its extended probe? I saw that happen once on deck on the USS America.
For the love of god, dont give them any ideas, its hard enough as it is lol.
You turn off the fuel transfer in the event that you get a hole in a fuel tank that didn’t self seal so that you don’t lose all your fuel from the aircraft trying to pump to a tank with a hole
What is the red yellow green square down right? I know the axis graphic, but this one is new to me...
It's for carrier landings (Since the lights are so hard to see!)
I didn;t know!!! awesome
Nice job :)
I swear DCS tanker pilots have brain damage! :D
As a real world pilot with several thousand hours and hundreds of those hours flying close formation I find DCS to be damn near impossible in the air to air refueling department. Very touchy. In perhaps 30 hours of practice I accidentally made basket contact once
How did you manage to have the Tanker start with baskets already deployed? Hardest challenge for me is currently to convince the bastard operator to deploy the refuelling baskets and not retract them, just because I need to reposition again.
It was bugged, he wasn;t supposed to have his baskets out lol
THE most frustrating thing in DCS! Isnt it satisfying to fill the tank in the air...
It's like the entire refueling scene from "The Starfighters" all overagain!
lol
Its impossible to me to do that smooth moves with the F14, why is that ?? My f14 moves a lot more with a very small moves
try adding some joystick axis curve.
I finally got my F-14 tomcat A&B mod. My favorite of all time. I can't thank you enough for your training videos. They are helping me immensely so. Can't thank you enough. I would love to watch your missions but unfortunately I can't do to the language. I apologize you have the freedom to do as you choose. But all of your training videos are clean and I deeply appreciate that. I wish you all the best, your squadron and yourself. I wish you Well on your journey together.
God bless 🕊️🕊️🕊️
Hi I’m new to the DCS f14 if you would wan to fly together?
You're a right little basket chaser, cap.
lol correct
Anything with a skirt eh? ;)
One trick i use is to put the wings in bombing mode.. it makes it more stable during the maneover and more predictible.. beware you will need a lot of up trim once the wings go back
Amazing ...Incredible refueling skill...I can't make it within this life. I wonder what is your set your axis tune curvature value for throttle and stick...
Do we have a way to use fuel from the tanks first so we can drop them when engaged AND NOT lose so much? It seems to take fuels equally at the moment so you lose a good chunk when you have to evade.
You can A) biase front/rear fuselage tanks B) enable/disable ext tank flow. But you can;t biase the ext tanks. Good news is that I think it biases them by default.
Let the auto system balance the fuselage tanks. The aircraft has to manage center of gravity position. Messing with the center of gravity by shifting fuel around is tricky business and if performed manually, is asking for trouble. In case of doubt just shove all the fuel forward.
Because of the airframe of the 14, my rule of thumb for refueling is once I’m plugged raise the plane until I can see the insignia of the plane on the left or right side, and depending on the plane in refueling on on either the top left or right of the HUD will be its engine or fuel tank. I use the fuel tank/engine to determine if I’m too low/high. And use the insignia to determine if I’m too close or too far
Jester actually helps quite a bit with a lot of things!
Thank you for this perfect tutorial. Could you please make the same one but for the Night In-Flight Refueling?
Hello everyone, I need help. How can I move to the back seat and control it there? please help thank you
Jester is totally taunting you
THAT WAS YOUR FIRST GO IN THIS PLANE?
Is the F14 more efficient than the F15c? I ask because the f15 can carry significantly more fuel
please search "grim reapers max ferry range"
F-14 can carry more internal fuel (16K lb F-14 vs 13K lb F-15C) but less overall as the Albino has 3 bigger external tanks
There is a AP mode to refuel?! whaaaat?
Fuel dump whilst in afterburner? A la F-111? Is it possible in the tomcat? I'm sure it isn't but hadda ask...
it does actually light up in the tomcat too!
@@grimreapers no way! I'd almost pay to see that.
Jester is so nice "you got this"
The throttle spikes on my ageing G940 makes this really hard in the Hornet. I’m hoping that this plane is slightly easier. Thanks for showing us the ropes though! Keep up the great work!
Southern Fun - When I say spike I am referring to the fact that the throttle erroneously registers more input than I physically place on it. So, I maybe adding speed a percent at a time and then when I reduce a tiny amount, it registers a 5% drop. It usually happens when you reverse from one direction to their other in the throttle. This makes it incredibly difficult to control minor thrust changes up and down. It just about allows me to perform a Case 1 Landing, but it’s almost impossible to do any formation flying or air to air refuelling. I have sold my soul, one kidney and one of my children and have a Warthog setup on order which I am hoping will perform better!
@@NorthernerInSpace Sounds like your potentiometer is worn out! Just good old entropy doing it's job. Could be mitigated a little with the axis curves. I have the Thrustmaster Hotas X and it has a deadzone built in to the actual control chip software on the throttle, right in the centre area where you need the fine control. I'm planning on bypassing it with an Arduino micro to get fine control.
Jealous of your Warthog purchase! :D
I also have a G940 that is pushing 8 years old I think. My rudders have the same spike you mention in your throttle. I can be on a constant rudder pressure and then let off a tiny bit and they flick back and forth before returning to the position my pedals are actually in. My stick has a stick in it as well. I pull back slightly and it sticks, then a little more pressure and it moves, though since I was pulling harder it is more of a quick yank that I have to counter. I do not even use the FFB so it is not a feedback thing but very well could be a glitch in the "centering spring" programming. Been about to pull the trigger on the Warthog as well, but I am not happy that my G940 pedals will not work with it. Since the throttle and pedals are connected to the G940 stick, I would have to keep the stick also plugged in to be able to use the pedals. Also with all the reports of the motherboards frying in them, I am not ready to drop $500 for flaky hardware.
Power5 : My rudders do the same. I set a 20% dead zone on them and it seems to reduce the rudder spike. I upgraded to a Warthog a couple of weeks ago. For now, I am running the G940 rudders through the G940 joystick until I can afford some separate pedals! The G940 joystick has its power cable removed and I have removed all bindings for it in DCS. I am very happy with the Warthog, but I may need to get a lighter spring for it unless I get used to it first!
Has the bricking problem been fixed on the WH? Honestly all that is stopping me from ordering. I had same plans as you are doing if I get the WH. And I have a 25% curve on all my Axis but no deadzones.
LANDING tutorial plz
Missed out a checklist step, set wing sweep (ie bomb mode as already suggested in previous comments) but also air source to left engine. This is because you don't want fuel fumes in your aircraft from the probe and drogue.
Roger. FYI we interviewed two IRL Tomcat pilots and both say Bomb sweep is not used IRL.
@@grimreapers Yeah I think it makes it quite a bit harder to stabilise behind the tanker with the wings swept like that.
Bomb setting was too much sweep so most pilots just manually swept them back to 35°-45°. And the suggestion some are making to put air source to left is accurate.
Noice
Nice👌
How do you have your joystick set up? Do you have curved or dead zones? I feel like I barely touch my warthog stick and the input display says it’s like 20-30 down one of the axis’s. Great video your videos have made me the DCS pilot that I am.
no curves and no dead zones on the F14 anymore.
Again sir, you have absorbed my time with a totally immersive video and your channel only draws me into dipping my very large toe into your world DCS.
I will endeavor to learn to play this game and will in time meet you as FRIEND OR FOE, hopefully friend but we all like a good human opponent don`t we:)
PS when will the Typhoon or F35 be playable. NO F16 DLC available YET WTF?
I will of course train using the bac hawk just to get to grips with the buttons, as I mentioned before I used to play Falcon f16 on the Amiga and loved it but this games Graphics and attention to detail is Jaw dropping.
Loved the Channel,Fantastic.
Typhoon and F35 never. DCS only goes up to 1990. F-16 3-6 months.
You can always LCtrl+Z to 2060 where the F-35 (probably) be 90% declassified. We probably have a 6th generation fighter by that point im sure.
Jk
@@grimreapers oh
Hey, nice vid!
Got a question, at 5:40, how did you make the two "cues"/"boxes" visible?
Thanks
Hey , I got the same question regarding controls box how do you get it ?
Jester is really intelligent
the reason you can transfer fuel with the gear down is in case of a malfunction of the squat switch.
When i request rejoin to the tanker it never responds me
Make sure you set EASY COMMS in the mission editor
@@grimreapers it happens when im in multiplayer server
@@emirimpramoglou4677 you have to set your radio to their frequency when not using simple radio and have to contact through that radio menu not the simple radio menu when the server is not in simple radio setting for your server that u join say it's 254.000 am set your main radio to that and talk through that radio I hope it helps I had difficulties at first aswell
I have tried and tried and tried countless times, but no matter how hard I try, I just can't pull this off, and it kind of bothers me because I really want to fly with you guys, but can't even do something that is probably simple to everybody else. Kinda heartbreaking, because my dad served on the John F Kennedy when the VF-103 Jolly Rogers were flying off of it, and I wanted to rep them as best I could but I can't for the life of me refuel in air 😞
Ur trying too hard take it easy and breathe
Sure you have it by now. I’m working on the Tcat now. AV8 and A4 next. In the beginning-45 days and a hundred attempts until a full bag of gas. And I used to do this. Trim trim trim.
thanks cap, i actually manage to fill my tank in the F14 because of this video, i was never able to maintain stable flight because i thought that i could not go that much forward, thanks a lot for the tutorial.
F-14B tomcats were refueled at 20,000 at around 315 ias in actual practice as to avoid the difficulty induced by lower speeds .
It’s true throughout dcs because tanker speeds are too slow . Every aircraft has a best altitude and speed for refueling practices . I think the tankers in 2.5 are set to around 275- which is too slow for basically everything 4th and 5th gen.
Hornet =307
Viper=300
Tomcat=315
AOA at low speeds and small deflections is too drastic and you’ll just have pios over and over again fighting your flaps and what not.
If you don’t believe me talk to a tanker pilot , or an actual fighter pilot with experience fueling .
There is an entire addendum for every NATO aircraft in the tanker book.
thanks
Can you not set the speeds for all aircraft in mission editor?
Power5 when the tanker tasks actual script into fueling mode they are defaulted to very slow , I don’t remember what it is by default . You could do that for sure in the ME, but without deeper editing to the actual task speed I think they default back.
The server I fly has various tankers at different altitude blocks and speeds because of the old DCS speed of tanker pre 2.5 unity giving people habits and then higher speeds and also accurate speeds and altitudes.
Generally you want 20k and above 300 ias for everything nato tactical.
Wow that really looked hard!
