Triangle=delta. Circle/dot=pipper. The center of the lubber line on the standby gyro is a pipper.Tacan/VOR=VORTAC. T/R=tansmitreceive. /\=chevron. Pipper is a common term, ie, place the pipper in the reticle, place the pipper on the horizon line, etc. Velocity vector may be a pipper, but not always. Depends on usage. Keep the pipper on the ladder line for line up, etc.
The degraded signal accuracy at distance is actually quite realistic. The TACAN (which works almost identically to a VOR/DME) broadcasts it's signal as a "line" at the point of transmission. Due to many factors (delve into radio homing theory if you want the details) this line gradually spreads out and becomes a cone at greater distances from the station.
Thanks for the video Cap, I really appreciate how you break things down into 'bite-size' chunks of information. I realise you have stated there are more videos coming, but I am really interested in your HOTAS bindings, as it appears Chuck hasn't brought out one of his famous manuals for the F-14 yet. Also. I don't own the Thrustmaster Warthog which can capitalise on Heatblur's current mapping profile, though I know they are going to produce more.
You forgot to mention that using the TACAN knob on the stear CMD selector adds the vector to the HSD, much better than the little arrow. Also, you can use the top right knob of the HSD to select the vector to display, just like a VOR. You will then see lateral deviation. My 2 cents ;-)
I would LOVE to know where you got that hifi cockpit. Mine is so old, beat up and distressed that it's very difficult to read. Not just the TACAN, but the other cockpit details. Some of the text is rubbed right off and it's really beat to hell.
Finally got it!!!! That is one Bad Ass Jet. My all time Fav. Can't wait to see if possible you create a story line similar to the Final Countdown. F14's on an Aircraft Carrier that ended up back in time, just before the attack of Pearl Harbor and while outnumbered 10 to 1 against Japanese Zeros ,you must destroy them all to save Pearl Harbor and Hawaii. Cheers and Enjoy watching your Videos.
Hi, thanks for your tuto, i was trying to set tacan from RIO seat for the pilot :) Now it's working ! Is it possible to set TACAN on ILS channel, for example the runway at groomlake - nevada is ILS channel 30 but ILS doesnt seem to work ? Thanks :)

For the life of me, I couldn't figure out how to adjust the upper #'s so this really helped! Thanks Cap.
Liked because of your pfp

Thank you very much for this video. Looking forward to more like this in the F-14.
I love these tutorial videos they are really well done, along with the testing videos. :) thanks

So it's basically the war version of VOR... Thanks Cap!
It is military VOR yes.
0:48 I guess flat-earthers will dislike your video
lol roger
Good stuff Cap! Thanks for this. I could have used that knowledge the other day in Zone 5, trying to find Nellis :-)

Yeh agree, will make a more detailed vid soon.
Very helpful! Thanks Reapers.

Great video, thanks for the tutorial. 👍
excellent tutorial, thank you!
Brilliant..many thanks..
Having an issue where even in transmit/receive mode I can't get the distance to show for the TACAN. Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks for posting!
Great tutorial, thanks mate.
Is it possible to demonstrate a low visibility landing, using Tacan + ILS approach ?
Cheers
Affirm when I learn it.
what about crs? is there nothing in the f14 like in the f18, where you see in which direction the runway goes?
how do you hide the RIO lantirn stick? i cannot figure out how to do it...
Why would you not remove the joystick so we could actually see the display? Just curious..
Nice one
Ok so just a simplified NDB system. Good I already learned that for the mig-19

Sounds like, "The Final Countdown!", movie
Thank you. I liked this video. The same about the use of guns, sidewinders, phoenix... ??? Maybe you e already done that... I ll check. Thx again
I'll do weapons last, as all of the other UTube creators seem to be doing the weps first.
@@grimreapers fair enough. Thx
Thank
You
I love your videos Cap but Morse Code is pronounced in dits and dahs so the airfield Tacan was dah-dah, dit-dah.

I haven't got that far yet sorry
ILS and TACAN are two separate systems. So, no, just slapping an ILS frequency into your TACAN won't work if that's what you meant.
@@Stahlwollvieh Thanks, ok i understand. So has the F14B ILS capability for ground runway ?
Can use please show how to set INS waypoints in the RIO seat
yes learning that tomorrow/friday
907 first
how da fuk do you know all that shit??
