It is true that they were talented. They always had good players in the 80s, but after Leeman Bennett and Glanville left as coaches, the franchise had a rough ride. This 1986 team was the best performing of all those squads during, "the Dark Years," of the mid-to-late 1980s. Loved those classic red, striped helmets of the day. Even their Visitors' Unis looked sharp.
1986 Atlanta Falcons 7-8-1 finished third place NFC West Division behind second-place Los Angeles Rams and first place San Francisco 49ers 5 years away till 1991 Atlanta Falcons Too Legit to Quit 🏈
These old NFL FILMS team season highlights were often puff pieces. Overhyping the positives and down playing the negatives. They could make a 2-14 team seem like Super Bowl contenders
@@rustykuntz94 Yup...I remember them starting off 5-1-1 in 1986, and then it all fell apart--I completely forgot that Archer got hurt, I guess that's why? I do remember them losing a ton of close games in that stretch, including that awful blocked punt vs. the winless Colts. I remember watching that Dallas game (in Connecticut, so it was rare to ever see a Falcons game up here) --that was one of the craziest games I've ever seen. Beating Danny White/Tom Landry in Dallas, and later Marino/Shula in Miami, were huge wins at the time (although in hindsight, maybe the Dallas one wasn't, since they were starting to decline...still felt great to beat them!)
@@c.k.shortell7761 Yea and by mid season The Falcons were in decline and the Henning era was over. Jets beat them soundly in Atlanta, the Bears. The win in Miami was nice with Turk Schonert at QB
Falcons should go back to these uniforms..🏈🏈🏈😊🍺

Loved me some William Andrews.
When the Falcons lost to the winless Colts on a penalty followed by a blocked punt run in for a TD…..
Brutal. 😖
Sealed Dan Henning’s fate
So glad to see these videos.
I only remembered Turk Schonert from the Bengals, never knew he played with Atlanta too
Yeah Rusty. I thought schonert was still a Bengal through the late 80s.

At 1:33, rare clip of Ronnie Lott being on the receiving end of a hit.
Could you drink beer on a sunday in fulton county stadium in the 80s??
Marion Campbell was NOT the answer
When did mick luck Hurst retire, did he play for the 87 falcons
retired after the '87 season
@@SportsOdyssey2019 thanks, my fav falcon

They started 4-0, and lost 8 of their last 12 games, including a 10-10 tie against the 49ers
Campbell was a great defensive coordinator but he was a terrible head coach just another guy who should have stayed as a coordinator
Marion Campbell worst head coach in Falcons history.
