I am a recipient of a lgps pension every year you get a lgps news letter. In there this information was included for all to read if confirmation is needed best to contact any UK lgps pension provider.
From this year (21) UK citizens living out side of the UK can't hold a UK bank account. They have to open a account in the country where thay reside and must inform their pensions provider with account details as this will be needed to deposit their funds.
My advice is look at Spain's wealth taxes and other taxes which are incredibly intrusive take no account of various factors like a mature tax system. Wealth tax - annual, Property Tax, Capital Gains Tax (CGT). Spanish authorities are greedy, very aggressive and can raid your bank accounts. My sense is that people are moving money away from Spain, and outflows of wealth continue to happen. It's a shame as Spain has much going for its Wealth tax is damaging and its encouragement to bring wealth into Spain is nothing like the smart thinking Portuguese.
a question since many Latin American surnames come from Spain if you have a Spanish surname it would make it easier for you to have Spanish citizenship faster
I'm hearing a lot of UK citizens switching to Portugal because the conditions are simpler, easier and they've not changed the rules heavily in recognition of the UK having left. I suspect one will see a lot of money flooding into Portugal in the coming next 24/36 months.
@Bif Stiff Clarification necessary here; the 90/180 rule applies to the Schengen area, not individual countries. However, it's possible to spend an extra 90 days in each of the following countries, which are not in the Schengen area: Cyprus, Croatia, Bulgaria, and Romania.
@Bif Stiff to be clear there are already moves to try and change this. You saw the Spanish minister for tourism on sky begging British tourists to come. The country is in serious financial trouble. Make no mistake. Others are now lobbying for the British tourist. Greece is opening up the corridors faster as is Portugal.
Can somebody please explain...why can't a person, couple or family........if they can afford to travel.......go to any country on this planet...........stay as long as they want to........spend their money....in that country.............buy a property in that country..........get a job in that country...........as long as they are law abiding.........why can't we live and work anywhere we want to...on this planet ?
@Bif Stiff Actually, Portugal has changed the rules regarding their "golden visa." Now, you are unable to buy property in the Algarve, Porto and Lisbon (the three most popular destinations) in order to qualify.
Thank you for your video, still unsure to how much my wife and I would need each year, after selling our property in UK we would be able to buy a property in ( Albox ) Spain with €140000 in a bank account to live off plus my private pension €800 each month, would this cover the 5 years. Has our dreams been shattered
That sounds like a very low pension and the cash amount is also too low. How will you pay for private health insurance? Remember all that BS about foreigners using the NHS. Well, it turns out that that goes both ways. I guess you will need €4-500/ per month as a minimum for health insurance given you will be older.
I just retired and planned on expat living in Spain. That’s been stolen by the pig headed Tories. 90 days in 180 max in the EU. I’m fuming, stuck on prison island waiting fir Putins first nuke land . Fuming:

I'm not sure that's true. Can you provide sources for that claim?

Forget Spain. Portugal is equally beautiful, more welcoming and you can stay for 180 days.
