  • If your intention is to stay in Spain for longer than 3 months you have an obligation to register as a resident. Regardless if you are an EU citizen, a family member of one or non-EU citizen, you will be asked to meet a number of requirements to successfully complete the application process.

If you are a Brit you can .but you have to know the rules.Greece has the same rules. A 180 day visa can be applied for ,you need private health insurance plus an income of 2000 euros per month

This was very helpful, thank you! I arrived in Spain (Alicante) only a few days ago and I plan to reside here permanently. Right now I do not have sufficient funds to live here for more than 2-3 months but in this time I hope to find a job which will allow me to live here permanently. Should I apply for my NIE number first in order to start working and then apply for my residency permit/green card once I am employed?
    Thanks again!

Yes, you need to get a NIE as soon as possible before doing anything. I'm also going to Alicante on Wednesday with the hope to apply for residency

Hey! Got a few questions about registering as autonomo as an online tutor (I have a PhD in physics/biomterials):
I'm Polish, trying to register in Valenica.
    I have already:
NIE (just the number on a paper stamped by the immigration office)
    Padron in Valencia
Private health insurance that covers me in Spain with no co-pays
Spanish bank account (with upwards of 12k eur on it)
    EU passport/ID card
I read that I have to go to the tax office, fill out a 037 form, and then bring documents from the tax office to register with social security. Then I can register as autonomo.
After have all of the documents I listed above plus the registration as an autonomo, will that be enough to become resident here in Valencia, even before I have acquired any income or clients? Or do I need to show that I have already earned money as an autonomo and show that I have a certain lump sum/regular income from my self-employed work? Not sure what financial situation is expected of me.
    Thank you in advance!

    • @YESValencia
      @YESValencia  Месяц назад

      Hi Katherina,
Yes, last time we checked, with the docuements you listed above plus a proof of you being registered as self-employed, should be sufficient. If you take this route, you don´t need to have a private health insurance as you will be paying in the Social Security.
      The best of luck!

Hi, I am leaving Spain permanently, and therefore need to return my residency card. I have been informed to complete the EX-18 form and take it to the required office. The issue is when reading and completing the form it does not mention anything about leaving Spain and surrendering the NIE, more about applying for an NIE?

Are visas for retirees over 65 easier than everyone else in Spain, and why are residencies harder than in Portugal? Not to mention taxes etc. Especially now with all the economic and political effects of the war with Russia?

Hi, after 5 years of holding NLV, you can become permanent resident and will have the rights to work here. No need to become a Spanish citizen. To become a citizen- if not under different circumstances, most commonly you need to be a resident for 10 years.

    • @YESValencia

Hi, you can make a deposit on a property and even sign Earnest Money Contract without NIE, but you will need one for closing. It is probably easier to obtain NIE number while being in Spain.

Can you please confirm that this true. Gracias.
