a tip from a local guy to anyone thinking of moving to valencia: it would be really nice if you consider learning spanish and mix a little bit with us, local people. i am tired of seeing expats who struggle to reply to a friendly "hola!" at our children school gate or in similar situations, and they look for conversation only among themselves. as the video couple say (by the way, what a cute baby you have!!!!), we are very friendly people so it is really sad, annoying and difficult to understand that kind of behaviour here. it drives us to think something like "what the heck is wrong with you?"

Rent prices have been going up since Valencia has been elected best city to live in the world for expats, and the arrival of lots of digital nomads, but buying stays affordable. Also, transportation prices are super affordable, 4€ for 10 bus or metro trips, and if you live there, you can get a 24€ annual card to take a Valenbici bike whenever you want in the stations, which are everywhere in the city. Fallas just ended, and as usual, it was fantastic! But yes, this is noisy (fireworks!!!) all day and night for 10 days. 300 days of sun per year... but the 2 summer months can be really hot, and winters are cold at night, because of humidity! But people are outside all the time. Fish is amazing and really cheap. We have many places which offer subtitled movies. Also, sport is a big thing here. You can do literally any type of sport.
I lived in a small town just west of Valencia called benimament. That was in 1989. It was at the end of the metro line at that time. I really liked it alot. Valencia may be the third largest city but it's much smaller than Barcelona and Madrid. If you want another great place to live try alicante .
OMG that's funny. :D I've lived all my life in Benimàmet... I don't know if you'd recognize the "barrio" right now. A lot of the old countryhouses of the early XXth century have been repurposed as public facilities or demolished to make new buildings. They finally dug the metro line into a proper subway and what it was the railtrack is now a long beautiful park promenade. :)

I have already: NIE (just the number on a paper stamped by the immigration office) Padron in Valencia Private health insurance that covers me in Spain with no co-pays Spanish bank account (with upwards of 12k eur on it) EU passport/ID card I read that I have to go to the tax office, fill out a 037 form, and then bring documents from the tax office to register with social security. Then I can register as autonomo. After have all of the documents I listed above plus the registration as an autonomo, will that be enough to become resident here in Valencia, even before I have acquired any income or clients? Hi Anca, we're looking into this for you as it's a little out of our scope. Since we don't have any direct connection in Valencia right now, we recommend this article from Expatica that will clear up the buying process www.expatica.com/es/housing/buying/spain-property-103805/ and as far as agencies, they're hit or miss. If you go on Idealista and find properties you like and start getting connected to agents, find ones that you enjoy working with and then have them search for you based on your criteria. It's generally best to try to work with an agent that's your nationality or has lived in your country to understand the culture you're coming from a bit better and allow you to have a better buying experience.
What are good neighborhoods for raising a family? I’m looking to buy a detacted home there. I hear Torrent is good. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!
I'm thinking about moving to either Valencia or Barcelona for a year long internship. I speak four languages and love being in an international community. Yet since Valencia is much more affordable than they beautiful Barcelona I might chose that. What do you recommend? P.s. I have also lived in Lisbon for 5 months and loved the international vibe of the city. Would love something similar & I'm European so I don't need visas P.s.2. Your video is very informative, thanks for the good job! :)
The different prices between Barcelona or València are in the rent of the flats,in València are a little bit cheaper may be,not too much maybe 200 euros month. depend where are located the flat, but the prices of the bills are the same electricity water internet, food are the same.
Hi Sandra, these video are viewer driven like we explain in all of our Review/Preview shows. This series is called Review/Preview and for the year 2020 we're going by the alphabet and every two week we breakdown a city into 3 parts (moving, living, and working). After the new show airs, there's a poll for what the next city will be. You all vote and whatever city wins, we make a video for it! 😁
Agree, I’m also curious why you moved from Valencia to Portugal. I just arrived in Portugal but Valencias also on my shortlist so I’d love to hear a comparison.
That's for the question, D. B. We're not 100% because we haven't done a deep dive on Spanish taxes especially for SSI. However, it would probably be best to consult a tax specialist because in the end those guys (and gals...the good specialists) will generally save you more than it costs to hirer them. - Josh & Kalie

OMG that thing that you showed is definitely not a paella. No one from Valencia will eat that thing with rice, peas and sea food and call it paella. That's just for tourist. The real paella is just made with rabbit, chicken, and a few vegetables. Other than that quite accurate.
I have a serious question, I have a friend in Nerja that wants me to relocate there to begin a new life, I really want to do this, but I don’t know how much I should have saved….no job lined up at first but if I had 20,000 Euros 💶 when I arrive is that good or too low? My friend says that’s too much to come and I can do it with way less but I want 20! Haha
What are you planning to do there, Brian? Cost of living in Valencia isn't huge by a North American perspective. It's hard to answer the question without knowing more about you and your plan.
We could possibly start saying average apartment size, but small is relative to our audience. Employment levels aren't really a thing that we cover as many expats will be moving there with a job or woking independently. Thank you very much for the comment and adding what we didn't state.
Since 30 sq meters to 2000,,, depend the price, unemployment in Spain is very high, Catalonia have less unemployment with the 10% 4 or 5 points less than Spain i think
It’s a thin line. There’s certain overlap. A lot of it has to do with the permanence of the move. Expats are viewed as more temporary and immigrants are more long term but by definition an expat is an immigrant. There’s a lot a connotation of a lifestyle difference, which we understand. We however completely reject the notion that only a certain racial demographic is an expat. Thanks for the question. ruclips.net/video/NkFQR5hfbNE/видео.html
Expatriate: someone who lives outside of their native country Immigrant: someone who comes to live permanently in another country Not associated with race or color
Just one thing... I'm from valencia, and I have to say that the pictures shown in the video are definetely not a paella valenciana Dish, be careful cause we valencian people get reeeeally mad because of this, paella doesn't have peas nor chorizo nor shrimps...
Hi I'm curious what you'd say are the best districts or nieghbourhoods, not only for good people and safety etc but also all around living la Vida ,maybe international populations - just for easy transition to the culture?
good video, could you guys compare Valencia with Bogota? in terms of racism, cost&living, humans. I´m living in Bogota, speak Spanish quiet well and I´m thinking about Spain to the next move
Thank you. We don't have the scope to do a Valencia vs Bogota comparison, sorry. We're just not big enough yet. Spain is a pretty nice place to live and depending on your wages, you can live pretty nicely. Judging by your name, you're of Korean decent, right? We have seen and heard of awkward moments with a variety of Asians in Spain.
Wonderful questions. First, we have to say that it's completely personal preference. Barcelona is huge. It's a world city. The international culture there is massive. The food scene there is phenomenal. Valencia is a mid-major city with good local culture but lacking in int'l culture. The food there is much more local, Spanish. Language is different for sure. Yes, people in Barcelona speak Spanish but the main language is Catalan and they'll probably prefer to speak English with you rather than Castilian Spanish. Valencia has their "own language", but Castilian Spanish is much more common and there is not the same resentment and animosity towards "Madrid" as there is in Barcelona. We think it's much easier and faster to get around Valencia as far as transportation is concerned. Valencia is cheaper than Barcelona and if you're making the same wage, your money will go further in Valencia. Valencia is a slower pace of life than Barcelona as well but both still have a good active lifestyle. Climate and weather is fairly similar because they're not that far from each other. You'll find a lot more international tourist in Barcelona compared to Valencia, Valencia will have tourists and especially Spanish tourists so you have to be okay beginning viewed as a tourist a lot of times while in Barcelona. Either way, you'll learn the local spots in time. Hope that helps. - Josh & Kalie

Valencia to me still maintains an authenticity unlike Barcelona. Love Barcelona but it has become too touristy, expensive and you rarely hear Spanish or Catalan being spoken just walking along the streets as I feel as though it’s just inundated with foreigners. If you are looking to be surrounded by more Spaniards then Valencia is a great choice.
For linguistic acquisition of natives, it has stunted foreign language abilities compared to other European countries who keep content the original language and subtitle instead of dub.
That's fair, but you know the problem with time stamps from a RUclips side of things? YT rates videos higher based on watch & audience retention so if someone just skips to the exact part they want to hear, watch for 30 seconds and then bounce, it really hurts the creator. We honestly don't know what to do about this. Thanks for your input.

@@ExpatsEverywhere thank you!!!!
@@ancaanastasescu9532 you’re welcome
we spaniards use idealista, its a nice app to buy any house/apartment

What makes Barcelona more beautiful in your eyes? Just curious

The different prices between Barcelona or València are in the rent of the flats,in València are a little bit cheaper may be,not too much maybe 200 euros month. depend where are located the flat, but the prices of the bills are the same electricity water internet, food are the same.
@@mickybcn7453 Thank you! I have decided to go to BCN :)
@@letsgo8318 Hi, What was it that influenced your final decision? I'm going through the same motion as you. I need your advice.
Curious: Why didn’t you guys choose Valencia over Portugal?
Hi Sandra, these video are viewer driven like we explain in all of our Review/Preview shows. This series is called Review/Preview and for the year 2020 we're going by the alphabet and every two week we breakdown a city into 3 parts (moving, living, and working). After the new show airs, there's a poll for what the next city will be. You all vote and whatever city wins, we make a video for it! 😁
Agree, I’m also curious why you moved from Valencia to Portugal. I just arrived in Portugal but Valencias also on my shortlist so I’d love to hear a comparison.
@@GutsAndGall Hey, we answered the question above. This video is a part of a year long series where viewers vote and we curate the content.
Thanks!
Thank you very much for the channel support, Mark! - Josh & Kalie
Do I get taxed from my ssi income if I stay longer than 183 days in Spain?
That's for the question, D. B. We're not 100% because we haven't done a deep dive on Spanish taxes especially for SSI. However, it would probably be best to consult a tax specialist because in the end those guys (and gals...the good specialists) will generally save you more than it costs to hirer them. - Josh & Kalie

Valencia is hot in summer!
Hey guys. So I'm in Uganda and I'm looking to travel to Spain for work, I've never been to Spain before so it's a little tricky... I was hoping to get some advice on what jobs could be available for someone in my position and what difficulties I will face applying to get into Spain.
We can recommend you to David McNeil from Expat Empire (expatempire.com/). This is the kind of work that he does. He can help. Let him know you heard about him from ExpatsEverywhere and he'll give you a discount. - Josh & Kalie
@@ExpatsEverywhere Will definitely check him out. Thankyou very much
OMG that thing that you showed is definitely not a paella. No one from Valencia will eat that thing with rice, peas and sea food and call it paella. That's just for tourist. The real paella is just made with rabbit, chicken, and a few vegetables. Other than that quite accurate.
That is rizoto you ....
Pues yo soy española y mi madre siempre la hizo con guisantes y marisco
Una fantástica ciudad para los inmigrantes ingleses
Gracias por decir esto
What about working as a Physiotherapist? What are the wages like?
We're not sure. That's a little too niche for us.
I know one from Korea who get a loooot of money working the last 35 years here, he was very good in his profession.(die last month)
exMichigan in Spain 🇪🇸👍 since 2000 . Cheaper in Castellón.
@@ExpatsEverywhere i drive the City buses here in NY and wouldn’t mind doing that over there in Spain.
Josh is so cute!

Forgot to mention how small the apartments are in Valencia and how high the unemployment is in Spain.
Try having pets around when there's all the noise of their festival! And retired people don't exactly welcome it either.
I’m not an English speaker, which differences are between expat or immigrant?
It’s a thin line. There’s certain overlap. A lot of it has to do with the permanence of the move. Expats are viewed as more temporary and immigrants are more long term but by definition an expat is an immigrant. There’s a lot a connotation of a lifestyle difference, which we understand. We however completely reject the notion that only a certain racial demographic is an expat. Thanks for the question. ruclips.net/video/NkFQR5hfbNE/видео.html
Skin colour. White people call themselves expats and call brown people immigrants
Expatriate: someone who lives outside of their native country
Immigrant: someone who comes to live permanently in another country
Not associated with race or color
@@meio_feio you’re quite right pal
Wow, that is a TIGHT t-shirt Josh. How did you fit into that?
How can you review a place if you've never been?
Valencia? We have been. Several times. Love it. Named our kids Valencia. LOL - Josh & Kalie
Just one thing... I'm from valencia, and I have to say that the pictures shown in the video are definetely not a paella valenciana Dish, be careful cause we valencian people get reeeeally mad because of this, paella doesn't have peas nor chorizo nor shrimps...
talking about "V"?... come to Vaslui!
Maybe one day! - Josh & Kalie
The neighbourhoods you mentioned here are the worst to live in. Cabanyal it's by far, the most dangerous.
It is not exist comparition between them!!! Valencia is Europe
What would be the difference between Barcelona and Valencia? Which one would be better to live? And why?

@@ExpatsEverywhere There is some international scene but less so than in Barcelona. You can find international restaurants too..but Spanish food is so good that no need to have more 😃International artists in the summer specially, there is a world cinema called Babel with no dubbed films...in the summer there loads of affordable even free events...concerts in the park, cinema in museums etc it’s a great city..I miss Valencia, I live in Uk at the moment
USD/ Euros? KM’s? Degrees centigrade? Not all American
The audio is super high can barely hear your comentary
Wao things dubed in Spanish in a Spanish peaking country as a con?
For linguistic acquisition of natives, it has stunted foreign language abilities compared to other European countries who keep content the original language and subtitle instead of dub.
Meal for $10? Gotta be kidding 😂 you mean ham sandwich+drink?
time stamps would be a point of improvement
That's fair, but you know the problem with time stamps from a RUclips side of things? YT rates videos higher based on watch & audience retention so if someone just skips to the exact part they want to hear, watch for 30 seconds and then bounce, it really hurts the creator. We honestly don't know what to do about this. Thanks for your input.
I thought y'all were in Portugal. Ok, you just answered.

Why is everyone hung up on the term expat? In America it is used to describe someone who moves to another country for the culture, not to look for better economic opportunities. That is the difference
