    Anyone who fears for the future of jazz music should rest easy: look to phenomenal, energized, gifted artists like Hiromi Uehara and.. bassist Esperanza Spalding. Some incredible talent out there, bringing a great 'juice' for the coming generations. And best of all, Hiromi knows the 'old guard'..she mentions both Oscar Peterson, and Errol Garner. She tips her hat to them, then picks up the torch and carries it forward. What a talent!!

      Cynthia Hawkins My feelings exactly. So proud of the youthful musicians and their creativity. Who knew jazz could be expressed in such new and interesting ways.

      +Cynthia Hawkins I agree! Thanks to overseas Jazz fans, too, for helping keep the genre alive. The best artists know and acknowledge those who came before them, and can't help but integrate a little of them in their own work. At times I hear everyone from Peterson/Garner to Scott Joplin, to Chick Corea, to Ray Charles to Zappa to (don't laugh) just a pinch of Chico Marx (watch a clip or 2 of Chico: Hiromi's only pianist that seems to enjoy herself more than Chico)

      You hit the nail on the head, Cynthia. All the jazz afficianados and torch carrier worriers like Marsalis can now rest easy. She SINGLE HANDEDLY could carry the genre for a while. :D

    One of THE great classical pianists of our time is Valentina Lisitsa. But that's maybe for when you are feeling kind of serious : ) When you want to break out of the ordinary and experience a FANTASTICALLY creative and fun time, THIS is your girl! Hiromi is easily one of the most creative, lyrical and beautifully energetic pianists on the PLANET. A true musical GENIUS. LOVE HER!!!

    BTW my sister has been a musician and arranger for some years. She was invited, years ago to JAKARTA JAZZ FEST, in Indonesia. (!!?) There's a Blue Note Club there. When she got there and started playing, then meeting people...she was stunned by the younger patrons of the club - their real knowledge of American jazz, and their love for it. One guy came n and started talking about Chet Baker - and he really knew his stuff!! This really boosts my confidence in the future of this form of music, and also..the way artists like Hiromi and Spalding add touches of their own as the art moves forward. Cool!!!

      definitely an interesting sextet of composers she cites & it's great to hear her casual inclusion of Frank as part of her canon. it'd sure be entertaining to hear her take on some of his piano-based compositions (in both senses of "take"; what she thinks through them & how she might approach the playing of them). think she could do something intriguing with a Conlon Nancarrow score as a basis for improvisation?!

      English is very easy to learn. It's the easiest language I know.

    • @svenlima
      @svenlima 8 лет назад +6

      German (1st) / English / French / Italian / Spanish.
      English is quickly learned up to the level of everyday conversation or reading a novel. Of course we make mistakes but on the whole English is quite simple. That's the reason why so many people worldwide are able to speak it . English gets difficult on the level above literature. In many languages conjugation is the most difficult part but in English conjugation is non-existent: I wrote, you wrote , he wrote, we wrote, they wrote ... can't get any simpler. Try that in Spanish :-)
