#ChickCorea (Armando Anthony Corea, June 12, 1941 - February 9, 2021) was an American jazz composer, keyboardist, bandleader, and occasional percussionist. His compositions "Spain", "500 Miles High", "La Fiesta", "Armando's Rhumba" and "Windows" are widely considered jazz standards. As a member of Miles Davis's band in the late 1960s, he participated in the birth of jazz fusion. In the 1970s he formed Return to Forever. Along with McCoy Tyner, Herbie Hancock, and Keith Jarrett, Corea is considered one of the foremost jazz pianists of the post-John Coltrane era.
Corea continued to collaborate frequently while exploring different musical styles throughout the 1980s and 1990s. He won 25 Grammy Awards and was nominated over 60 times.

Here is Hiromi's part translation. (my poor english tho)
0:39 When we met 10 years ago, I was too excited to remember anything, but this time I want to enjoy every note of him.
8:32 Mutual trust comes out in the sound. Each sound is a treasure and every moment is happiness for me.
Thank you
Those are beautiful words. Thank you for taking the time to share! ❤
beautifully spoken
I get the chills knowing Chick is gone My favorite Maestro He loved Hiromi’s playing she is a special gift
same here. i listened to a lot of chick growing up.
We're the only people in history who will have been alive at the same time as him and appreciated it.
He's not gone, his music lives on and I can distinctly hear him playing in the stars between Mercury and Mars...
"She is one of my favorites." WOW!
Extraordinary. Impossible technique, laser perception, and fearless, playful, humility. These two spent a lifetime to find each other for a few moments of creation together.
Music is fleeting and ephemeral by nature. For all my discomfort with technology I’m deeply grateful that it’s been the key to capturing music’s moments to document, archive and bring delightful joy to the world who wants to listen just one more time to sounds that erupted in the distant corners of time and space on this planet.
I love how they musically finish each other’s sentences!❤
This is one those extra special, superbly special moments in the creative history of the planet that cannot be liked enough, or commented on enough, or praised highly enough. Such incredible interplay, skill, creativity and talent. Next level - plus a few hundred other levels!!!
RIP to a legend. His joy of music should remind us all of the small amount of time we get to enjoy the beauty we call life.
Like children having fun in a musical playground
Many years apart in age
This is awesome
When they did this, he was 65 and she was 27.
They are having a conversation so encrypted that only both of them know what they just said. That's something magical. We can have an idea of what they are designing with the sound, but it's like they are creating together this amazing story note by note. Bravo
Like the scene from Close Encounters, not only speaking the same alien, but finishing each others sentences. Outrageous virtuosity.
I'm laughing and crying at the same time from that performance. Just awesome. Made my day. Thanks for posting.
Masters ,True masters .I have had the pleasure of seeing them both. Rest In Peace Chic .
They need no translator. This is just pure playfulness, pure emotions. What a joy to watch.
This is an amazing performance! Their playing is so intricate yet musical, It fits together like magic. I'm glad we have people like Hiromi to carry the torch.
I’m a long-time fan of Chick’s genius, but I honestly enjoy Hiromi’s playing more. She’s born with a special connection to music.
Sultry meets superhuman abilities! F'n Wow!
They're on a whole other level!
Just Wow!!
This is some of the best playing I've ever heard! Hard not to shed a tear.
....or several, in my case. Love them both!
It's crazy how they talk with each other with musical notes, such an enjoyment to watch!
This is great! They speak the same wonderful language while playing.
They say that humans use only 10% of the brain. Hiromi just found another 20% and its all Jazz!
@@jasonlatour3403 chico Corea Also IS improvising.
@@jasonlatour3403 we have the 100% but when we are doing one thing we use 10
i want to have two pianos facing each other like this and some days when i come home i would like me and my wife to tell each other about our days like this.
Hahah that's a great idea
It sounds like they've been playing together their entire lives. Absolutely unreal.
Yeah, how effortlessly they're improvising!
Underrated comment
She is utterly enchanting.
Her attack is quite different from his…. More mellow sound fro chick …. Age I guess
To have this level of creativity, intuition and skill at such an age, is pure genius.
At any age.
Criatividade? Isso é um lixo harmônico, uma criança tocando aleatoriamente tira a mesma "Criatividade". A única coisa que mostra técnica é o Ritmo que eles impõem
+ a very huge & creatively purposeful+persistent amount of practice
Spellbinding! What a gift they both have. But it didn’t just happen - this is years and years of dedicated work to be able to play so ‘effortlessly’.
Genius ... Pure Genius! Tatum, Peterson and Bernstein (yes - Bernstein) are smiling right now :)
What a treat to hear two master pianists improvising off each other. Music making at this level is very rare.
I'm so damn excited to see her play live in May.
I want this played at my funeral, and have a pancake-eating contest, too.
No words can do this justice. 😲👌🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶💞
Life is so short! These people should live forever. Somehow they are in the midist of us through their amazing music and arrangments.
Hiromi and chick Korea so amazing Play jazz
Une tuerie...
Two monsters...
Bravissimos!
Such beautiful and wonderful musical games by Chick and Hiromi!
I'm sure it's been said a million times by others, but now Chck is gone (RIP), I'd love to see a tribute to his genius played by a reunion of the acoustic band with Hiromi, John and Dave.
Yeah, it should happen!
Oh my lord. at 7:32, Hiromi's Csus2 arpeggio and Chick's stacked fourths dropped my jaw, then the blindingly fast scales knocked me out cold.
This performance brought an actual tear to my eye. Well played!!
Simply astonishing.
She is sure a great musician. Chick of course is a legend.
I've seen Corea multiple times and Hiromi just a couple but this is just such a treat.
This is such a beautiful collaboration. 💖
Love this musical conversation!
Summertime is perfectly expressive of how it's like for me to order food.
one moment this item the next moment another item
and 10 mins later it's like "i know! i'll order pizza!"
Two greats making beautiful music together!🎹 🎹👍🙂✌
They had a very good piano conversation.
Beautiful and mad
They interact perfectly together. In 15:24 Hiromi deliberately plays a note "out of scales" several times. Chick responds and continues this note. This is unique and only possible in jazz. They play on a form, but cannot be restricted in their musical freedom. As a Greek philosopher said: "Art is freedom in form". It is precisely this deliberately "wrong note" from Hiromi that makes art.
i know im randomly asking but does anyone know of a method to get back into an Instagram account..?
I was dumb lost my account password. I would appreciate any tricks you can offer me
@Elijah Angelo instablaster :)
@Louie Graham i really appreciate your reply. I found the site on google and Im in the hacking process atm.
Seems to take a while so I will reply here later with my results.
@Louie Graham It did the trick and I now got access to my account again. Im so happy!
Thank you so much you really help me out :D
@Elijah Angelo no problem :D
LOVE IT!!!
Just mind-blowing. Im going to have to listen to this on repeat and probably watch on our big-screen TV to really appreciate.
Wow what a beautiful "DUEL" that was......Both showing the skills and wisdom in a friendly stand off ..... What a pleasure that was to see .....Bravo .
Both of them are class act :D
@@Mossyz. This is not a duel, but a conversation
Incredibly!!!
Pasaste la vida regalándonos ese arte tuyo tan especial. Merecías un descanso. Descansa, pues
so many eloquent comments speak for me here
and I'm more or less unspeakably grinning from ear to with tears of joy rolling
every time I hear Hiromi play ...
w/ tongue coyly in cheek I'll note that Chick is pretty good too, & trust all here will
see that for the jokingly huge understatement it is
I noticed while reading here what I've noticed at times elsewhere;
some artists emit so much talent+kindness their pages remain troll free
after watching this twice thru the thought comes to mind that a person living
this joyfully with this much intelligence & the dietary wisdom of Japan seems likely to
live to be 130 or 140, w/o starting to lose her chops until her age reaches 3 digits
Gente, como são bonitinhos, se dão bem, tocam bem juntos, o máximo! Merecem toda a felicidade que possam nos dar!
Folks, how they are cute, play and live well together, great! They deserve all happiness they might give us!
When sound worlds meet and instruments part of heart and soul of performers….what Joy
extraordinario
oh my god 7:30-8:00 this 30 seconds bring to me goosebumps
Perfection
Maravilha. pérola. Ouro. Diamante. e o Melhor da Música: A ARTE dela. show 1000 com dois grandes Gênios do Piano.
I cried with joy
Every Vulcan n the Star Trek universe is watching this mind meld and saying...DAAAAAAMMMMMMM!
Great play!
Always brilliant Always symphatic
Every key was touched a thousand times.
I love her music! I grew up on Chick Corea RTF
WOW!
I love you Chick. Hiromi is amazing. RIP Chick. RIP Vijay Poobathy. My mate, I love you and I miss you my mate, my friend. Fly high brother. Fuck, I miss you bro. I loved you. Rest in Peace Vijay xxx
great conversation at the piano
wow!
RIP, Maestro...
Beautiful vid, Chicks loss is painful, R.I.P. Chick ❤️
Name one more iconic duo, I’ll wait.
coffee, sugar
Diom, LOL....still they had a point...Charlie Parker and Dizzy...different instruments but still...and there was only one “Bird.”
Oscar Peterson & NHOP
Chick and Gary Burton. But this is just as good.
Herbie and chick. Sorry it took four years
Whoa!
3 words : I love them
wow😮
Chick...love you
😱😱😱 I saw Hiromi in a small theatre in Kochi, Japan playing solo for 2 hours. There was maybe 50-70 people in the room. She blew our minds - all with that perpetual smile on her face. (For frame of reference, this is like seeing her in a Lion’s Club meeting house in Fresno, California. 😂) God only knows what they paid this world-class Jazz pianists … but I’m sure it definitely wasn’t enough.
I'm gonna see her play in May! I'm so excited I can hardly contain it
_ Rock/Pop musicians tend to be overpaid while Jazz musicians are awfully underpaid. We can never underestimate the power of idiots in large groups.
@@ComradeKoopa : I envy you. 17 yrs on, she’s even better now. Enjoy!
God has nothing to do with it.
This is a very high education❤
I still can't believe Chick Corea has passed on!
I bought Corea's "Piano Improvisations Vol. 1" today, February 8, 2023, at Amoeba Music in Hollywood, CA.
I especially love "Noon Song", "Song Of The Wind", "Sometime Ago" and "Where Are You Now? Picture 8".
I had the distinct honor of shaking hands with and complimenting Chick after a "Return To Forever" gig, at Doug Weston"s Troubadour in West Hollywood, on August 18,1974.
What a magical night!
REST IN ETERNAL PEACE ~
ARMANDO ANTHONY "CHICK" COREA.
Chick has an amazing sound
This is ust minblowing.....WOW
Woah.
WOWWWW!
Well, it was like two airplanes doing aerobatics in the sky...and for brief moments, now and then, passing slowly over the people standing watching, in the summertime sunshine, before resuming their full-sky maneuvers .
I don't know what's going on here but it deeply moves me...
I was even able to listen to some Hindemith and Prokofiev! and I think this is her best performance ever because there were his inspiration!
They are talking on the piano as they used to be. Like when Hiromi was a high school student!
❤❤
"Chick Corea - piano
Hiromi Uehara - piano"
wow... didn't notice
Der Stoff, von dem man nie genug kriegt...
OMG!
so dame crazy
Maestro X 2…deep and musical.
Wonderful!
I'd love to see what happened if Hiromi and Jarrett played together!
cosmicjazzer1 Oh please...fuck off hahahaha. Jarret is another level.
cosmicjazzer1 Completely different style I think man
It would still be interesting
@@svenlima true
Keith Jarrett is a completely different musical personality - I don't know if he ever did a 2 piano improvisation like that. He has such strong ideas about where he wants the music to go I can't see him playing off of someone else.
こんなに音数が多い演奏なのに、二人とも無駄な音がぜんぜん無い!!
2 genius. But still Chick Corea is my favorite. RIP maestro.
they really speaking 🎹🎹
Maurice Ravel would have adored this collaboration. I can just see him tapping his feet. He loved Gershwin too.
Sanjosemike (no longer in CA)
Watch Ravel's Left Hand Concerto by Yuja Wang...
@@mikesierra8156 I have seen it and love it! Thanks for your suggestion. As you know, it was a very jazzy work, with a lot of humor and beauty, like Yuja herself.

a-b-s-o-l-u-t-e-l-y c-o-l-o-s-s-a-l BOTH!
Dialogue of gods. Exciting.
I've no words, I'm all emotions.
Thanks! 🥲
Sie interagieren perfekt zusammen. In 15:24 spielt Hiromi ganz bewusst mehrmals eine Note "out of Scales".
Dammit Hiromi is a genius.
