Me reading this title: "Hank Jones... Nice, love that guy. Wait, what?! Chick Corea too?! Damn! HIROMI AND AUSTIN PERALTA?!! How did they not create a black hole with the overwhelming mass of talent on the stage?!"
The pianists of this video are obviously brilliant-but shoutout to my man Omar Hakim on the drums! I’ve always been amazed by his control and energy both on fusion and straight ahead playing like this.
I think Yamaha piano's sound works well with this kind of music, which is good and bright. Uehara Hiromi sparkles. I love the scene WataSada looking at her, which is so heartfelt. The drummer and bassist are great. They did follow her up and down.
Truly, the loss of these three beautiful, radiant souls that gave nothing but love and depth to the world of music and art as a whole is one of the most tragic examples of the cruel and ironic nature of death. As it gives life, it is indifferent to take it away. Not driven by reason or judgement, death creeps along the shadow our lives cast. This is at its most clear when shown to me today, in this video.
So exciting to have such mind-blowing a young talent who chose JAZZ. Hiromi will most likely inspire new jazz talent. Love all these tasty players' music. Follower of Chick since early 1980's. His style has been constantly evolving. Now, such sweet runs and plays so pretty. Love my jazz.
I got to play with Austin one time at the Blue Whale in LA. I was struck by his amazing musicality and verve. What a presence. The world lost a great one at such a young age.
The young guns here are talented for sure. But the depth and interest from the seasoned guys was noticeably at a higher level. Not much can substitute for years of experience and experiences.
That little improvised give and take between Chick and Hank was wonderful. Always great to hear Chick and Hiromi together, some of their impov is some of the best I've ever heard.
I was shaken by the news... He was a child prodigy. Can anyone tell me why there is so much sadness among musicians, and artists in general? Does creativity comes when you are looking up from the hole? So sad...
This is lovely, to put it mildly. It makes me want to study Japanese! What I mean is, this music opens up music as such, to a heavenly level of "love and understanding", as Jimi H. put it. Playful communication with no words to simplify it...
So much talent on one stage, this is fantastic! I love the contrast in playing styles by all four pianists. Just one great big beautiful collaboration.
Nossa, que coisa assistir à entrada da Hiromi, foi como se rompesse o universo em duas brechas, onde emoção e técnica se juntaram e conversaram juntas em seus pulos e arremessos! Wow, watching Hiromi's entrance was as if universe broke in two instances, where emotion and technique joined themselves and talked both in her jumps and throwings!
oh wow what a lineup, I never notice John Patitucci at first, Omar Hakim is so cool, but Hiromi, Chick, Hank you're all one of a kind, Sadao was just stunned, I know he can do more than that
Brilliant stuff all round. Easily one of the best pieces of Jazz that I have heard. Thanks for the memories Austen. That bit of improvisation was the icing on the cake. Hank Jones, Chick Corea, Sadao Watanabe , Hiromi Uhera, the Bassist and the drummer, a million thanks for making my day.

@C. Hart i think you're in the wrong comment section to be talking about all this stuff. Why not let people listen to their music without the history lesson?

The first and last unique collaboration work of oldest and youngest jazz artists.
Especially we Japanese are always proud of HIROMI.

This is what jazz can do - a rather light little Disney Princess song becomes elevated to the heavens
Hiromi is a gift to the world!!

Yeahh.. I didn't know both Austin and Chick were gone, so sad
Great Jazz Musicians talking to each other through their instruments is really wonderful to experience.
Austin Peralta has a wonderful touch. Too sad that he has gone so early.. :(

This is JAZZ, no egos, just good music......

Just reading about Austin, he was 16 years back then!. I can't believe he died so young, he looks so sad and lost in this video. RIP.
Thank you for letting us know. One great giant, and one young prodigious talent, both gone to Musicians' Heaven.
