  • We tested FIVE different suspension setups without knowing which setup we were driving, all on the same exact truck, in the same terrain. We wanted to know what setup was the best with NO biases. We were very surprised by the results!
Fox, King, Elka, Bilstein and Icon were all tested in this full review series shoot out.

@WheelEveryWeekend I’ve been running a set of 8112s and 8100 smooth body’s since November so probably a tad less than 8k miles on them. Are you able to tune these for me if I could take them off and send to you? If so what’s your turn around time normally as it’s my daily driver. I could buy a set of 5100s to use until I get them back

I went Icon Stage 9 primarily because it was a complete (brainless) solution w/leafs and UCAs. I’ve been so pleased with it I wouldn’t change it for any price. Firm it up when loaded and on road. Soften it up at air down and hitting dirt. Makes my heavy taco ride like a dream. Love this series - keep it up.

I really like the Bilstein 6112 front and Bilstein 5100 on my 2021 Tacoma TRD 4X4.
On my very first off road adventure the front Bilstein 4600 shock bend on the lower part of the shock. I was shocked to see that happen on a TRD 4X4 OFFROAD model truck.

Gotta test some ADS next, I threw some of their bypasses in as secondaries in the front of my 4runner. Running fox bypasses in the rear and fox coilovers up front, I've pulled those foxes apart and revalved them a few times though. Once you start taking shocks apart and tuning them yourself i feel like it really comes down to what you can find parts for the easiest. Also what are the people you tune with running and know how to tune.

My Bilstein 5100s have a really tight jitter at speed on anything other than smooth pavement, but they handle decently, especially with tight cornering, they're competent in the sandhills, and my wife hates them so she stopped driving my truck all the time (she loved the stock Hitachi shocks for grocery runs..)

    • @OverlandOutfitters

Your alignment changes mostly because of lift. We didn't really change lift height between shocks, so the alignment stayed more or less the same. Also, you can get alignment pretty close just with a measuring tape and some patience. Close enough for a test like this
