- This is a Dentzel Carousel that was installed at Kennywood Park in 1926 along with a 1915 Wurlitzer Band Organ style 153. The cassic Dentzel Carousel is noted for a Lion and a Tiger in it's menagerie of animals plus a Jesters head carving on the rounding boards up top. This carousel has an added feature as a patriotic themed horse was added in 1976 to celebrate our nations Bicentennial year. The music heard in the first part of the video (during the photos) can be found on Bill Black's Carousel Music CD featuring a Wurlitzer 153, which can be found at Carrousel Music on the web.
I love that Carousel! Ive ridden on it many, many times over the years. In our younger days, my sisters and I always ran to get one of the horses that went up and down. The stationary ones were for babies and old people. I remember the late manager, Tony Sacramento who was pretty much a legend at Kennywood.
WOW,THIS CAROUSEL REALLY TRAVELS.

Beautiful carousel! Reminds me of the one we had at Salisbury Beach, MA when I was young! I hope to get to Kennywood someday...
I used to love riding these when I was a kid and with my friends and family. Thank you for uploading this.
Reminds me of Six Flags Enchanted Village in Federal Way, WA. BTW, The first song in the organ is "Listen to the Mocking Bird (AKA The theme to The Three Stooges)".
amazing such a old machine still wors today.
that is a very neat and pretty carousel.
Looks like the chance carousels you find in portable fun fairs but slighly faster and larger (and uglier) but i like the wurlitzer 153 organ
I all the rides at many theme parks and loved the roller coasters better than the carousel but when I rode the Kings island carousel I did not want to go up and down so I rode the one of stationary horses
@woodencoasterfan You kidding me?!?! I've been coming to Kennywood for all my life and every time i come i'm still blown away at how beautiful the carousel is!!!
I still ride on them if there is a Fair with a carousel horses are my favorite, I can't wait until Summer I will be going horse riding these carousels dating 19th Century & before interest me I have a small carousel where the horses go up & down.
I love the big rides like roller coasters and more other than the carousel
Love it! I rode this carousel back in 2005 and it's one of my favorites!
This looks a lot like the Silver Star Dentzel Carousel at Six Flags Over Texas in Dallas Texas.
Dentzel Carousels and Wurlitzer Band Organs. They are the perfect combination.
I like PTC carousels better :)
I recall one being for sale for approximately 1.6 million dollars. And I want it even if I live in the UK.
The one for sale(which you cannot have cuz i wanna have it real bad) is PTC No.53.
After I get it, all I will need is an Artizan style D.
If a PTC is 1.6 million, then Kennywood’s Dentzel would surely sell for over 4 million.
@woodencoasterfan Awesome! I hear CP at least used to have a Wurlitzer 165 organ. Nobody knows what happened to it though
Song at the beginning is"Listen To the Mocking Bird".
The government ordered the carousel but it was not finished at the time, it was purchased by Kennywood at the same year.
Sounds like the Bill Black Carousels 153 recording
@louellasnugglebunny Same here. I had seen pictures of it prior to my visit in 2008 but I was still blown away by how beautiful thi Dentzel carousel really is.
Thanks for the comment. you're posting a better video on your site? I also thought this was a Dentzel Carousel as listed by the National Carousel Assn. I'll tell you one thing, I was astonished at the amount of detail in the carvings when I first saw it.
@whoisthisguy724 I agree, I actually was going to title this video the way it's actually named "The Grand Carousel at Kennywood Park" But I decided on the current name trying to emphasis it's history. The only ones I call "merry go round" are those newer plastic, fiberglass, and metal ones that all look the same.
Reminds me of Disneyland King Arthur carousel.
the first song is LISTEN TO THE MOCKING BIRD.
I like music in kennywood carousel
Was this recorded on the Fourth of July? I see American flags outside of the pavilion.
Sounds better in this video than it does now.
It sounds like it's drunk now and some of it's pipes are way out of tune.
Original 153's sound better than restored ones like Kennywoods.
All the 153s like hersheys have been restored. The only unrestored one I know of is the Dr. Teds Wurlitzer 153.
@@SnowmisersInflatables Yeah, I made a wrong assumption there. It was the rolls I didn't like... not the organ. I seemed to run into a lot of videos of the organ playing poorly arranged rolls so I made a poor judgement. It is shriller to an extent than other 153's and a bit more hoarse but it doesn't sound bad really. In 2011 it sounded brilliant, it apparently got restored then. It could use another restoration if you ask me and especially the facade. The paint is almost completely deteriorated.
the song at the beginning was the 3 stooges theme lol! woobwoobwoob!!!
It’s 3 Blind Mice LOL
It's "Listen To the Mocking Bird"
@anglerfly Yes I am if you're refering to the Classic Carousels and Band Organs group :)
@Jeffers153 Full title: "With Flags Aloft; Spirit of West point" from roll #13250
The animals on this carousel are the horse. Tiger. Lion
I bet there's a Dentzel in the world's largest childrens museum that is packing a Wurlitzer 146...
@whoisthisguy724 I'm hoping to be able to go to Cedar Point this year so I can shoot video of the three classic carousels there as well as the Derby Racer there too. My camcorder might catch fire with all the videos I'll be shooting of all the coasters and other rides if I can make it there :D
Anyone know where i can find the burger king carousel music? it's nowhere to be found
I wonder if they still have it there from all the away to 1927--2017
The band organ is tuned once a year. With the Pittsburgh erratic temperature changes, the tuning can be undone quickly and it is too much of hassle to fix it especially if a large amount of pipes are out of tune. In recent years however, the tuning has stayed pretty good throughout the summer.
@whoisthisguy724 Absolutely!
theme for the 3 stooges is 3 blind mice dude.

Basically, the carousel is the same EXACT thing as kennywood, it's the same shit with many of the problems found
WHAT IS Made for?
"Made for" is the same thing as "built for" if that's what your asking about.
?
I hate that they refer to this beautiful machine as a "merry-go-round", it sounds so mundane. "Merry-go-round" is an insult to carousels! A machine like this should be referred to as the "Grand Carousel"!
It's a merry go round.
Ha ha.
sorry, reminds me of the Three Stooges!
