Me watching: "Nice... Yes... Oh let's go there... Yeeeesss!! Ooooh that's where we wanna go! .... Yesss, now we're going there! Oh that's what I'm talkin' about! Oooooooh niiiice! Yeah... Oh yeah...". I hope my neighbor didn't hear any of that.
The core of it all is a boring straight line zoom to a destination point. To make it a bit more dramatic, I oscillate the center of this zoom movie around the center of the view (alternatively one could say the zoom movie is scrolling to and fro horizontally and vertically). Likewise I can slowly (or sometimes not so slowly) rotate the 2D view around the center. And finally this 2D zoom ride is rendered as elevation map, turning the smooth sailing into an exhilarating skydive straight out of an action flick. There is a slight bump at the end. I don't think it should be there, so I probably have a bug in the code that is meant to smooth out the whole path.
You could call this the mandelbrot valley
Very true
To all mandelbrot enjoyers: it starts boring but becomes your average mandelbrot delight
one of the coolest things ive seen
I've never seen this type of visualization before! This is really satisfying :D
Beautiful and hypnotic.
So this is what the job of a bottomless pit supervisor is like
Brilliant!! Very cool effect. Keep it up!
Whoa. What a really cool take on mandelbrot zooms
feels to me like the height field should be inverted
This is like my mind right now 😢
so, if i keep shrinking i will never take fall damage?
this seems more like an expansion than a zoom
I would totally take a trip here

Do you have any plans to release the code for this someday?
This is super cool :D
How did you define the camera path?
And did the surface move/bump at the end of the video? Or was it just an illusion?

why are people still making mandelbrot zooms in august 2024
Because the possibilities are still infinite.
