There's basically no market for a 5.7 semi-auto rifle/PCC. From a varmint perspective 22 mag does a better job at significantly less cost, 5.56 is nearly impossible to beat for other applications. 5.7x28 only has real advantages in a handgun platform compared to other calibers on the market.

Johnny Johnson well with the cost of the ammo it’s better to have a platform to run through the paces of accuracy out to say 200 yards with this particular cartridge, as compared to plinking 75 to 100 yards and burning through ammo because of it being semi automatic and less accurate.

it sounded like a drum and bass track when firing.
Hope this drives the FN5.7 down even more. Competition is good for the consumer. Love FN & Ruger products. This is a win win. Great video
picked one up by sheer luck about a month ago. Ammo right now is hard to come by. However, it is the most fun gun I've had in a long time. Excellent woods walk-about gun....
Looks like Glock missed out on putting out a long slide version calling it 57
Glock numbers their firearms based on their own patent number, not a marketing name or basis. i.e. Glock model 17 was Glock's 17th patent that they sought from the US patent office.
I don’t think that the patent number thing is true anymore. It was true for the 17, but it seems very unlikely for the past 10 years or more.
Yeah that's not how it works...
Finally a 5.7 in my budget now
yappatalk I’m hoping these result in some price reduction on the fn, which I would prefer. Time will tell.
@@johnnybeanz1296 atleast we have a cheaper option to the 5.7 before i was thinking about getting a 22tcm 1911
had no idea this was coming out, good stuff
What a pleasant surprise!! Between this and the Colt Python I look forward to purchasing them in the future.
I’d like to see the Keltec CP33 in 5.7
Oh god
Omg omg omg omg.. I want I want I want!!!! Someone else Finally f*****g did it in pistol
Hoping Glock would have did it
FUNNY. I DIDNT SEE THE ELSE EITHER LOL
Just bought one and love it
Great video on the Ruger 57 handgun
Nice pistol This was a smart move on Ruger’s behalf, I would love to see them come out with a bolt action rifle in this chambering using the same mags.
Mervyn McDougall
That would be awesome!!!
Ruger Firearms, Prescott AZ
Send them an email, I’ll bet they respond.
Why bolt action
Johnny Johnson well with the cost of the ammo it’s better to have a platform to run through the paces of accuracy out to say 200 yards with this particular cartridge, as compared to plinking 75 to 100 yards and burning through ammo because of it being semi automatic and less accurate.
Would have been good to see the Gold Dot test ammo against expandable media - like the meat target....
The meat target is (say it with me kids) - 2 layers of denim, followed by pork ribs, our watermelon lung tissue, another layer of pork ribs, 2 more layers of demin followed by our high-tech fleece backstop :P
@@mcm95403 Whatever happened to the bag of oranges for lungs?
Go ask Paul
Great review as always
It’s about time someone came out with a better and less expensive 57. Thanks Ruger
If the Ruger 57 is popular, hopefully more ammo companies will start to produce more 5.7 rounds, and the price will come down.
If ammo was cheap as 9mm I’d buy two of these things.
Hopefully ruger making a new firearm chambered it will encourage more manufacturers to make ammo for it, lowering the cost.
I love my Ruger. Satisfied with my purchase
Knowing Ruger, they'll make a subcompact version next year. That's what I'd love to see! I love my P90 and Five-seveN pistol. Speer releasing carry ammo in 5.7 is super exciting as well!
Yet another cool fire arm i cant own in NYC. :-(
I wanted an fn but after seeing this and I seen it selling for 670.00 half the price of the fn. Ive never owned a Ruger this could be the first.
Jump into the Ruger club. My first real Ruger was the GP100. Absolutely no regrets.
Ruger builds top notch weapons
Only thing I have is a mini-14, and I love my rifle.
You are missing out. Ruger makes awesome overbuilt fantastic stuff.
@@TeensierPython I've shot friends of mine that owned them. They were nice but I just never pulled the trigger no pun intended to get one. Now the way things are goin in the market that may change. You can get alot of gun for less money and still get a quality piece. I didn't think of buying a Canik elite until I played around with it. Very nice gun not just for the money but just a nice gun period.
Ruger continues to impress. I will own this as soon as I can FIND one, LOL.
Super stoked for this and can't wait to get my hands on one out at the range day, SHOT Show 2020. I'm a huge fan of the round, and think this will help bring prices down.
The police should really consider picking this gun up for some departments, they would have more effective range and it would be great because of the accuracy when rapid firing.
Over-penetration and less stopping power would be the downsides, right?
@@mojoman2001 5.7 was specifically designed NOT to overpenetrate. Dumps its energy really quick
@@mojoman2001 full metal jackets would but not the new ones in the video it would be a great round.
@@mojoman2001 5.7 is a cop killer for a reason. The round was meant to pierce body armour
Secret Service trusts this round, it must do a decent job.
I wish it used FN mags so it would be compatible with the 5.7 Banshee! Still it looks like a cool gun. Happy New Year👍🇺🇸
Can you mount an apple? I hate pineapple😂👍
@timmybmn yeah I hear you! I bet it will be a hot seller though. I probably will not take the plunge unless a carbine option is available! Happy New Year👍🇺🇸
@timmybmn same here
I would jump all over a 10/22 chambered in this.
@@Ticklethealgorithm Well I have never had many if any failures to fire out of 22 mag! That being said I tend to agree with your statement. Yeah the banshee is a little over $1000 but they look to be a great option. Have a Happy New Year👍🇺🇸
Great video, you changed my mind on this. Kudos!
Love your videos. They are excellent.
Fun fact: during the ammo drought after Obummer's first election this was the only ammo I found in the area. Was able to get a couple of 500 round cases mail order when nothing else was available.
