I love heel vs. heel battles. Even though the Shield were made to be more sympathetic, they were still the same badasses who still unfairly used the numbers game against their foes.
one of the best bookings vince did at the end, was doing everything right with The Shield. They seemed so protected, compared to Nexus or the Wyatts they thankfully didn't got screwed by terrible booking.
@@semyaza555 he is right. Vince wanted some older guys (older compared to nxt guys) to be like the new nexus and with punk as the leader. Punk said what about some new guys from nxt, and hr pitched Rollins, Ambrose and Chris Hero. They wanted Roman instead of Hero! That was the story. But still Vince booked them well afterwards, that what i mean.
imo the shield rose so many stakes with the stuff they accomplished together man truly was an honor to be apart of that time and era , really hope one day before its too late we can see them together again even if its just one night only id pay anything to watch it
I liked them at 1st think a great. Team. But I think ppl over hyped them a little. Yes all 3 are top guys. But saying the number 1 stable is crazy to me. Over DX Evolution, and the Big Dawg gimmick ruined the theme music for me.i put them in top 5 maybe,
Man I'm so glad Seth cleared this up because I was confused AF on how the shield was formed lol because I fell out of Wrestling for like over 10 years and I was heavily invested into shows like Dark side of the ring and others similar to that, but I was still peeping lil segments that popped up on RUclips here and there.
Well, to be fair, it’s easy to say that now. Roman was awful as the big dog. The second he got to be himself, aka the tribal chief, that’s when the Roman reigns you’re referring to ended up paying off.
If seth doesn't get injured he is the closest to Shawn I ever seen. The stuff Seth did was incredible. The fact he does all these matches with all those injuries shows how amazing he is. People will eventually realize he is one of the greatest. I know he is liked alot but it will be even more eventually.
That was the funny thing about the Shield. Seth and Mox already were over a bit from their Indy exposure, but I had no idea who Roman was as I didn't much care about WWE developmental originals. Even now the Roman Reigns name doesn't fit what should have been his original gimmick. You see this same problem with Bron Breakker. I can understand if Bron wants to stand on his own or if the office wants to distance the Steiner name, but I think it limits the presentation for WWE guardrails on what they want to promote. Seth and Mox have naturally evolved a gimmick that has less friction in it and feel true to their character.
Basically Seth confirmed what Punk stated years back on the Colt Cabana podcast in 2014. Punk was supposed to get a heel stable of bodyguards. The original idea was to be Kane, Big Show and Daniel Bryan. Punk nixed that lineup and suggested Seth, Moxley and Chris Hero. Vince and co wanted Roman instead of Hero as they were creaming themselves over him even back then in FCW/NXT. The rest is history.
When I heard about SHIELD I remember a group formed by DREW MCINTYRE, BOBBY LASHLEY AND BARON CORBIN also DREW MCINTYRE, BRAUN STROWMAN AND DOLPH ZIGGLER 😂😂
Will we ever see the original Shield back together? Hard to say because Moxley is known more than Ambrose. Same guy but the Shield was Ambrose, Reigns and Rollins. Never say never.
Imagine it took WWE this long to realize people were aware of talent from the indies and diff geographic locations. And they still have a long way to go in regards to recognizing talents work n accomplishments in other promotions. It’s like they think if they mention AEW or N.E championship wrestling, GCW, New Japan or any of the other wrestling options that we are all going to immediately stop watching them and run to watch / support these other promotions.
I hated the shield for so long after they helped punk beat ryback. I was a huge ryback fan and wanted to see him become champ. The way the cookie crumbles sucks for most
Tbf with Roman though people liked him when he was in The Shield once the group break up and Vince pushed down to people throat to be Cena 2.0 is when people turned on him for a long time
Takes you back to what Punk said…. They were always like “but make Roman look strong”… with the emphasis on Roman, but never mentioning Seth or Ambrose.
His resume says different. He wasn’t “face of the company” material (we saw it when he won the title and was on the Stone Cold podcast), he’s okay as a hardcore stuntman or upper carder to the top guy
Roman owes his entire career to Punk. If it wasn't for Punk putting together The Shield for himself and the brass substituting Roman in the 3rd slot, then Roman doesn't has the Shield gimmick crutch to rely on for 7-8 years until he could figure out and pivot to the Tribal chief. Without the huge success of the Shield first to act as padding, Roman would've been seen as a failed experiment had that not existed and been given up on far earlier on.
I stopped watching wrestling as they were debuting . If you would’ve told younger me that these new randos walking through the crowd like wanna be tough bozos would dominate the industry today I would’ve laughed at you so to see John cena or Vince didn’t stunt their growth is crazy because now as I grow up I realize that’s exactly what they were doing .

I can't believe we lived in a world where Seth, Roman and Moxley were to be background bodyguards in a story where Ryback was the main man

Chris Hero was an interesting choice, but I don’t think it would’ve been as successful without Roman!
It would be,Because before The Bloodline Roman was just a boring Big guy.
Yeah Roman’s presence and look about him gave the team what they needed. I don’t think Chris Hero would’ve been able to bring what Roman did.
