  • In this episode, we begin the process of building up the movement main plate, starting with the setting parts, replacing the damaged clutch wheel, and then moving on to the centre wheel, its bridge, the cannon pinion and minute wheel. This sets the scene for the reconstruction of the going train in the episode to follow.

Really enjoying the videos on this modification.. Thanks for the information. Whilst I will never be able to do this, I love to watch you!

Trying to understand this. The 2nd wheel has a hollow tube that projects through the main plate? And the 4th wheel pivot runs up through that hollow tube to turn the seconds hand? The cannon pinion slides over that hollow tube and has a gear at its base and that's turned by the minute wheel? Where does the hour hand fit in? You've got to have 3 separately turning parts here, one for each hand.

Great videos. Do you know what the logic is of going from the center wheel to canon pinion and minute wheel? Ive worked on a couple different Seiko movements where its usually the whole train is finished on the movement side before flipping over and moving to canon pinion and minute wheel. I'm curious why the tech manual for this one recommends a different order.

It may be that the implication is that you support the centre wheel bridge when fitting the cannon pinion and you can't do that directly once the gear train and bridges are in place. You will notice that I failed to do that here but that is because the process was compromised by the need to film it!

I bought a couple of technical guides on eBay years ago, along with casing and movement parts catalogues and interchangeability lists. There are high quality pdf scans out there too - maybe try 'seiko technical manual colour' as a search engine query.

Enjoying these immensely, thanks for making them. At 11m0s you mention a technical manual - I’ve seen the parts listing 2-pager for this movement, but struggling to find anything which features an exploded diagram with assemble sequencing. Can you point me in the right direction for this document? Many thanks ... ruclips.net/video/ourV_MCCxdg/видео.htmlm

Hi Rory, I have a hard copy of the technical manual for the 6218 which is basically the same as the 6216 but I don't think there is an electronic copy available anywhere. I've not looked particularly hard because I have my paper copy but it may be out there somewhere.
