This channel, for the most part, hosts video content referenced in my blog, adventuresinamateurwatchfettling.com whose content concerns restoration, servicing and occasional modification of vintage wristwatches.
I have used this channel mostly for short clips that I link in blog entries to illustrate particular aspects or features of some of the watches that I work on but I am hoping also increasingly to make longer, self-contained videos. By way of an example of what I have in mind, take a look here: ruclips.net/video/ACmJii_4NCM/видео.html

Citizen Cosmotron X8: World's first transistorized electronic balance wristwatch?
ESA’s Dynotron movement of 1968 is widely-credited as the first to employ a balance wheel and a transistor, but evidence suggests that the Citizen Cosmotron released in 1966 was the world’s first electronic wristwatch with a moving-magnet type balance driven by transistor.
The example shown here was produced in December 1965, fitted with a 25 jewel Citizen 0802 movement. For more information on this particular watch, its restoration and insights into this technological blind alley, please see the post on my blog here: adventuresinamateurwatchfettling.com/2023/12/26/the-worlds-first-transistorised-electronic-balance-movement-the-citizen-cosmotron-x8/

Repair and restoration of a Seiko 6139 chronograph from 1974
Просмотров 3,8 тыс.Год назад
This video documents the restoration and repair of a Seiko 6139-8040 from November 1974. This is a warts-and-all account of a process whose conduct was severely hampered by its documentation. This restoration features a number of commonly-encountered faults that can afflict Seiko 6139 movements, the most conspicuous of which, a broken chronograph wheel discovered very late in the process. 0:00 ...
Changing the battery in a Grand Seiko SBGV009
Просмотров 6 тыс.Год назад
Yes, a trivial undertaking but one that carries with it a small degree of jeopardy when the watch in question is as special as the Grand Seiko SBGV009, a 2014 homage to the original Grand Seiko Self-Dater 5722-9000 from 1964. Where the original Self-Dater was fitted with the hand-wind, low-beat 5722A, the modern reinterpretation is powered by the Grand Seiko 9F82A quartz, accurate to about 1 se...

Grand Seiko 4520-8000 from December 1970: a perfect high-beat, hand wind, three-hander. This model arguably marked the end of the beginning but also the beginning of the end of Grand Seiko, appearing at the half-way point in the first era of the brand. A short video showing the seconds correction function on the Seiko King Quartz 0853-8025.
Просмотров 2,4 тыс.2 года назад
Rotating the crown clockwise through a clear point of resistance causes the seconds hand to pause for a second or two, allowing the time to be resynchronised on the fly when the watch has been running fast. Similarly, rotating in the opposite direction results in a two second advance in the time, allowing correction when the watch has been running a little slow.

A heavily abridged concertina of 5 months of RUclips content from this channel into 8 minutes. This video documents the servicing and subsequent installation of a Seiko 6216A 39 jewel movement into a rather more humble Seiko 62MAS from May 1966. The 6216A is essentially the same movement as the first Grand Seiko automatic movement, the 6246A. The accompanying blog articles documenting the proce...

Should this work on Seiko grand twin quartz? It doesn’t work on mine.
My word. I am usually not into quartz, but that Grand Seiko 9F82A is a horse of a different color. Beautiful timepiece inside and out.
Three years late but thank you. Subscribed.
I'm surprised to see that although your watch has a lower limited edition number than mine, the date number on the inside of the case-back is a month later.
Wow. That’s engineering.
Bro im italian and i have the same whatch, all original and working perfect ,led ecc. ....Just Two Little scratches on the glass.... You want to buy It? I Send u some photo bro...
Great video! I recently got my hands on a similar machine, the Elma SuperElite. Eager to try it! I noticed that you took out the pallet fork during the drying process to protect the shellac. Isn't it the same issue with the balance wheel impulse jewel? I read somewhere that it's also secured with shellac.
Nice one, I like it too much. Did you change the sweep hand with new one after replacing the chronograph wheel?
Hello! I am the owner of a SEIKOMATIC-R 8305-8060 DIASHOCK 30 JEWELS from 1967. I have a question regarding the 8305 movement. According to one of your articles, the direction of the rotor to wind the mainspring is unidirectional clockwise? I'm not an expert at all. I would like to know if in the settings of my winder, do I set it to unidirectional clockwise or bidirectional?
Cool! Only on the King?
What a beautiful GS
Amazing!
thanks for that- much more confident to do it on my own now.
Great review! I have the 6146 already and a 6246 en route. In my opinion, a steal at current market prices. By any chance, where did you get those straps?
what is the water resistance of these 5626 King Seikos?
You made my day, my King Quartz 5856-5010 does it too, it's brilliant and so are you.
It would make a great adv. for some this watch… well done!
Thank you!
Hey man nice restoration you got there! Just wondering is there any chance I can buy that broken center chronograph wheel from you? I've had a little incident with the tip of my center chronograph wheel while installing that damn second hand 😅
This was brilliant. Thank you so much for your contribution to the Seiko community.
I like the monster seiko press ! How much pressure does it take to push a crystal in?
Trying to understand this. The 2nd wheel has a hollow tube that projects through the main plate? And the 4th wheel pivot runs up through that hollow tube to turn the seconds hand? The cannon pinion slides over that hollow tube and has a gear at its base and that's turned by the minute wheel? Where does the hour hand fit in? You've got to have 3 separately turning parts here, one for each hand.
Does anybody here know the technical term for this feature / function / complication?
Nice video, thank you! - I bought a Ref. 0852-8025 from January 1977, i.e. the exact same watch save the day complication, four weeks ago. I has gained just 2 seconds so far. Thanks to you, it now runs right on time again, haha! Beautiful watch, both technically and aesthetically. Cheers, from Germany!
So how is the waterproofness now?
I have just bought a new old stock one of these and not only is it absolutely immaculate it's a pure delight from 1974. It's older than I am and I absolutely love it!
Might be cool to use the leftover Lume paste to add to a wall clock or something like that, just a thought. great demonstration overall. Cheers from USA 🇺🇸
I understood the twin quartz logo as 2 crystals above, and three below.
This model is not a twin quartz.
What’s the best way to remove a bezel like this, pry tool doesn’t seem to work
I have always found the Japanese-style case knives where the blade is perpendicular to the handle to work well. You could try one of the double-bladed snap-on case back openers if you bezel is particularly stubborn.
My favourite watch the 62mas- it's one of those things that I just can't stop looking at, a bit like a Porsche 356. Can i ask, why do modern dive watches use a glass gasket and these only had a retainer ring? Im gathering the modern gasket is more effective? P.s If you don't want that new Bezel insert, ill have it...😁
A modern watch can achieve 200m water resistance with an interference fit glass or sapphire crystal seated within a hard plastic gasket but in my experience getting the crystal to seat square is much more challenging than fitting a tension ring-equipped acrylic crystal or a glass crystal employing an L-profile a rubber gasket. These older divers were rated at 150m; modern divers easily to 200m. In either case though, those ratings are academic. Most wearers would rarely if ever need more than 50m water resistance.
@@amateurwatchfettler You mean you can't use an Acrylic crystal with a plastic gasket? Only sapphire?
@@vanwilder1101 Yes, that's right. Acrylic crystals are flexible and achieve their seal by bending to the will of the rigid wall of the case whereas sapphire crystals are rigid and need a pliant partner to achieve their seal i.e. a rubber or nylon gasket.
Great restoration. I love that watch, it is my date of birth. Greetings from Mexico. 👍
I'm glad you liked it. Greetings from York!
Fantastic work and beautiful watch. My birth year and month so no surprise here 😉
Thank you!
So Electronic is Basically Automatic movement right
Only in the sense that it doesn't need hand-winding but then it doesn't have a mainspring. It is only automatic in the same sense that a quartz watch is automatic. It will keep running until the battery runs out.
I’m a little surprised it isn’t more different from a traditional movement.
Beautiful watch and amazing result of your work!
Many thanks!
Quality watch content here. Found your YT channel via your blog.
Thank you!
What is the shelf life of the watch battery!? If you bought a set it will sit for years and years,, probably will degrade over time i guess
I think the 9F movements are absolutely beautiful.
Sir, what is the use of reverse option ?
Notice: Sony SR920SW Battery is not compatible with 9F.
That date change at midnight was *chef’s kiss*
Which swiss watch uses same bezel?
thats a nice quartz movement wow!
Whoah.. where did you get that Tea Jar from. Mine was also cracked and I'm still trying to find a fitting jar
I bought it from a seller on eBay - Clear Glass Tea Storage Jar with Silver Screw Top Lid - but the item is no longer listed. You may find similar products elsewhere. However, the dimensions are not ideal and I ended up buying an Elma replacement from Cousins.
Where can I buy this
I have now vintage seiko wuartz model 1970's won't you buy this?
That was a fantastic 'train' of consecutive videos depicting your fine workmanship and steady-handed patience, Richard. Full marks for you and this beautiful timepiece you brought back to life. Wishing you all the best and God bless, Wendi (and Billlie) 🌻
Thank you! I am pleased to hear you enjoyed it. Oh, and by the way, my name is Martin :)
