  • This video follows the restoration and repair of a King Seiko 5626-7041 automatic officially certified chronometer from May 1974. In common with most 56-series Seikos from this era, the day-date quickset function was inoperable due to a broken day-date corrector rocker wheel lever. The video (and in particular, accompanying blog article) details the repair and subsequent testing of the repaired part.
For more detailed commentary on the process, please see the post on the blog linked here:

Thanks for running us through the issue of this movement series' day/date issue. I love what Seiko did with blue dials: This is a great example.

Thanks for this video on a beautiful watch. It good to see the metal quick set in action. I've got two 7040s with the 5625 movement, one with the quickset working and the other in need of repair. I love the handset on these watches and yours is that bit more special with the blue dial. Cool video. Please do more on dissembly and reassembly of the movement.

Great video, Martin! I think more videos like this would perfectly complement the more "in-depth" perspective from your blog posts.

Yes, I think this might be a sustainable format. Quite easy to make and it doesn't interfere too much with the process.

My KS is also from 1974 so it’s cool to see another from that year. Fortunately I have the non-day/date so I won’t have to worry about that part breaking. Just wish I had that stock KS bracelet as it’s so cool.

Great Video! Love your blog as well! Would a video on servicing the Seiko 56XX movement be a possibility in the future? Thanks for the quality content you produce!

I'm not sure I have the patience to do full service videos again - just too much work and it spoils the fun of the actual watch work but you never know. I end up doing whatever feels right at the time.

Hi, I have a 1971 King Seiko Cap Gold 5625-7110 Hi-beat with a cracked plastic quickset date wheel, do you know if there is a replacement I can buy because I can't find one anywhere. Cheers

You can sometimes find complete used replacement levers on Yahoo Japan, but these are thin on the ground and expensive. In the accompanying article on the blog, I describe the repair of the lever using replacement star wheels sourced from Vintage Time Australia.

I replaced the glass. There is a brief reference to the process in the video at about 4:20 but you can read about it in more detail in the accompanying blog post which is linked in the description.

@@amateurwatchfettler just read some of your KS articles. You’re a great writer
Replacing the crystal on these seems way too much a hassle. I think I’m going to try various grits of sandpaper and buff out scratches that way
