Would you rather Luther movies be made or go back to a series? Comment your thoughts below!
A movie ever few years would be nice
Movies
MOVIES!
the series is much better more cereble and less average action movie also it needed an Alice character
@@Nic1963D isnt that every movie tho 😂
All these 007 comments I would like to offer you this: That barman suggested to Luther to have a Martini and he said no. 👍
That’s very true actually!
That comment stuck with me after the film
Truuuuuuue
Ty ty
Yes but the fact he even said that ….
I just saw this movie at home, on headphones and dang! What a thriller! Superb scenes, especially the Picadilly Square scene and the snowy mountain scene. It really had me going all the way through. Then I went on IMDB and saw how many people slammed it as 'boring,' 'unrealistic villian,' 'horrible plot,' others were dissecting scenes and just ripped it to shreds. I don't know what movie they saw but I loved it. The last scene just begs for another installment of this series and I couldn't be happier! Idris is a natural action type of actor and I loved Andy Serkis as the villain. Super good movie, I recommend it to anyone who loves a great thriller! Don't listen to the haters, please.
☝️100%👏👏👏A++👏
Not even a thriller
@@mrmz3802 Ya? You're brain dead.
I couldn’t understand it either. Must be the new standard to hate on literally anything nowadays, welp fck them. It was a hella good movie!
@@Dvdh2903 IMDB has a bunch of silly morons that don't know a thing about movies. Movie reviewing used to be an art, now any joker can say whatever they want, thanks to cell phones and the internet. Ask them about Ebert or Leonard Maltin, they won't have a clue.
The prison fight scene was my favourite part. Not realistic at all but shows the strength and fighting skill of Luther to fight off that many people. Got me pumped.
Totally agree!
The prison escape was the best scene in the film
No movies ever made have realistic fighting scenes
@@burlingmill Jason Bourne
Yeah not realistic especially when he has difficulty fighting the killer one on one in the subway.
I worked on this film, and it was my first film credit; I am so interested to see what people think of it.
I thought it was superb, love the luther series and this movie.
Congrats!
It was fucking amazing. Don't let Rotten Tomatoes tell you otherwise... those are the same people that gave Dave Chappelle 3% score on his standups. Luther is by far Idris Elba best character and the movie was amazing!
What country is the ending supposed to be? Medics had Tallinn on their coat but that deff wasnt Estonia lol!
Sick movie miss. Well done
I really loved also that after working with Luther, his colleagues began to understand his motivations and respect his dedication to the job, even if they don't always agree with his methods.
Only real ones remember the TV series. The different sceneries were done really well, the burning house, Picadilly Circus scene, the snowy mountains. The fighting was amazing, but my favourite shot which I thought looked cool (or rather eerie) was the shot of the Land Rover sinking under the icy lake with all the dead bodies floating.
Can’t wait to see Luther as an M16 agent
Every scene looked so stylish and well done, but my god are they geographically awry, the police are driving through Canary Wharf to get to Soho in one scene, and then everyone is in Shoreditch.
Another is how they get to those snowy mountains after a 20 minute drive through the congestion charge zone haha
*Andy Serkis* is a great actor.. but bro was in another movie entirely here.. he’s playing a Bond villain who’s acting like he’s evil - when in Luther series - all the killers and criminals act like normal people, albeit disturbed, but believable.. Andy Serkis just played a moustache twirling villain in a grounded, down to earth franchise.
I would have to agree. It was a little maniacal for what I was used to with Luther seems though it’s been a while since I watched the original series.
Your analogy for Bond villain was pretty accurate. I’ve always thought there’s usually 2 kinds of villains in crime movies. One is like Gary Oldman in Air Force One or actually quite a few movies. Don’t get me wrong brilliant actor but then there’s the more understated villain like Jeremy Irons. In movies who’s more frightening the maniacal over the top bad guy that’s screaming their threats or the one who’s telling you thats threatening you in an almost calm manner? Anyway that’s just my opinion. Andy’s character just felt like such a departure tonally to the usual antagonists in the Luther franchise. Maybe they were trying to hype it up for the American or global audience but I prefer the more subtle approach that’s typical of UK series. (Btw I’m not a Brit or American though I’ve lived in both countries)
I hope to see Luther continue but their original format and tone was gold and intensity can be more subtle so its not so in your face.
@@CruzR1111 they had to speed it up a bit for movie . But I agree the slower pace of tv show is best
@@ishanperusinghe yes I meant to add in that’s probably the other reason. They’re great actors I’m not disputing that at all, it was just such a departure from the Luther we’ve come to know. I mean it’s not like British TV series have a lot of eps anyway.
yes exactly !
@@CruzR1111 I will take any Luther at this point . If the movie gets more eyes on show and then it serves a purpose and hopefully more series
Loved watching Luther uncovering the Luthermobile and put on Luther suit and chilling on top of skyscrapers like discount batman. Now he will get to be 00 Luther
He stood on top of buildings a lot in the OG series - it’s nothing new
@@firstlast9846 ...... No sh*t...
All those small details, adds so much
Batman is discount Luther
I really think he’d be a great Batman
It would’ve been such a moment if it really was Luther becoming 007
The crossover we never knew we needed!
this was exactly my thoughts!!!!
Hahaha exactly what I thought 😂
Well with MI5 showing up at the end, I think that's as close as we're gonna get lol.
and how do we know it wasn't M in the car offering him the job?
Great analysis! Idris is awesome as Luther and I agree. Fingers crossed for more movies. The Fallen Sun was well paced and absorbing.
Good movie overall, kept me engaged. But can't get over him beating an entire prison of hardened criminals and guards but losing to one weak little man.
Weak little man? What gives you that bizarre perception of the villain character? When in the movie did it state he was a weak little man? All the evidence suggests he was a very intelligent powerful strong little man
Your not under the illusion that all men with a small frame or shorter than six feet are weak and soft are you? He overpowered and out thought/skilled many numbers of victims
And the fact he overpowered Luther numerous times shows he certainly wasn't a weak little man. All those prisoners got caught and he didn't exactly fight them off with ease he got lucky and ultimately didn't fight his way to freedom like so many cliche movies
@@danielrobinson-df8hg firstly.... lolllll. Secondly, theres only 2 reasons why you wrote all that. One is that your just trolling. Which is likely seeing as you only made this account 2 weeks ago. The second is that your also a weak little man and I'm sorry that you've been bullied for it your whole life.
Looked like he had some special training or something. Was good with the knife
I half expected to see M in the car at the end and the James Bond theme to start playing 😅
The names Luther, John Luther! Queue James Bond theme! 🤣
Don't we all?
But even just a short cameo of Ralph would still be too much..
Tempting offcourse, but it's better to have such power to make people think about that, without showing them
@@ppvk2610you got a point there but the ending proves what I know all along and I see this happening watch this space
So Luther was offered a job to be 007 by the chief 👀
That's what I got out of it
Yep. Great sense of humour from Neil Cross'. He also declined a Martini in the film echoing Idris turning Bond down multiple times
My thoughts exactly and maybe idris elba is teasing us being bond
@@nomo3013but the ending wasn't
Only thing I didn’t like was that he was submerged in freezing waters, and he still recovers wearing those same clothes and that coat! It would be soakkkked
Yeah that's true - I did also think that. That's some super jacket!
@@BrainPilot It's his lucky coat. Definetely not as defective as Alice made it out to be 😄
This series is not the same without Alice, but I knew that they wanted Luther to become a 007 character, so I get why it’s different. But I hope Alice comes back as a great villain !
Let's hope so!
i never got this obsession people have with Alice. I mean she was good but not nearly as great as people made her out to be, they hardly ever showed her intelligence past episode 1 of first season and after first season she was just unpredictable "kill whoever i just want at random moments" type of killer which didnt really make any sense since they tried to paint her as some kind of genius Hannibal Lecter type of anti-hero/killer in the first few episodes of the series. The actress didnt really that good of a job either tbh.
Alice will be a great bond girl
cant help imagine at the ending sat in the car is M recruited Luther into MI6 and given false name James Bond.
Fr - I was expecting Judi Dench to get out of the SUV.. and they’d change his name to James Bond instead of John Luther - as a new identity
The ending proves this it was M calling him for his means only one thing watch this space
Alice is the Chief
It wouldn't surprise me - she does like a comeback in the Luther series!
Ha yep.
I thought that.
@@BrainPilot
No other reason not to show the chief?
Nope it was M calling him proves what I know all along
Why did the Bad guy have such a lame death. I was hoping for him to have a more agonizing one. Also: i hated the viewers more than the actual people who commited the crimes. Sad thing is that there are rly ppl who enjoy this kinda stuff irl.
Yeah he deserved to be chopped up in a mincing machine or something
That's what made it that little more eerie imo
And they are all people you probably say hello to every morning
Saw the movie recently at home and I have to say what an absolute blast. Idris still killing it as Luther.
Yeah he carries the role so well!
totally! a few lines of her would have made for so much more mystery... but alas. perhaps next movie!
Is this ending a hint for him doing james bond?
That’s what I thought I got so excited
This is what I thought!!!!!
and he would work with the other girl
That's what I got out of it
Idris has turned it down multiple times. Just abit of sense of humour from Neil Cross'. Luther also declined a Martini in the film. A nod to Idris turning Bond down
That jacket has not been dry cleaned since season 1
🤣
the feeling of this movie is amazing.
Decent movie overall. It would've retained my interest so much more if the identity of the villain was kept secret until the final acts of the movie. I guess the biggest hook came at the end when Luther was approached by MI6 to be the next 007.
It will be interesting to see what direction they take Luther in. Super spy maybe?
Idris Elba made a comment saying this film isn’t a whodunnit but rather a howdunnit which is interesting! I agree it would have been nice to have it more of a mystery though
@@milsimjedi experienced cop/ex-prisoner/spy. Sounds like a interesting character for a bond movie
@@Evanz111 most crime mystery genres have both though, both the identity of the murderer and how the crime was committed are mysteries. Still enjoyed it tho, big fan of Elba's movies. 👍👍👍
It's par for the course with Luther. Each season you usually find out who done it early on and Luther usually catches on just after it's revealed to the audience but just before anyone else. It was always more of a cat and mouse detective drama where Luther has to gain an insight into what makes the antagonist tick to beat them at their own game.
Thanks for this!
No worries!
the fact that hes gonna be in mi6 would be amazing man this movie did not disappoint
So true!
Four stars! I sure would have liked to see more of LUTHER the series but you can't always get what you want.
Im glad others on here picked it. 007 baby.
The ending proves this what I know all along
Luther the fallen sun,nice explained
Thanks!
SPOILER COMMENT HERE:
I loved this movie but I am extremely ticked off that Odette didn't get arrested. Her self-righteous obsession with bringing Luther to justice and "avoiding a circus" where he gets credit almost cost everything.
She was STILL blaming him after her daughter was taken while 100% ignoring the fact that Luther literally had the killer caught on the street and later in his hands before anything more happened. Including the fact Odette's right hand cop was helping the killer which she eventually also started helping. (criminal right?)
How in TF does she get to be in charge of anything and not locked up the same way she wanted Luther locked up?!!
This is why I love The Blacklist, because Red gives us the pleasure of erasing all the hypocritical self-righteous delusion right in their face by explaining away their bs explanations with hard truths and no free passes of getting away with things and going back to normal simply by feeling real sorry about it.
I agree with you completely
There were incredible moments of police negligence on her part and she committed multiple crimes. It’s a shame how she never commented on that.
I have more then once considered to start watching The Blacklist. Is it a good serie? Can you give a little spoiler-free explanation on what to expect in the serie and what’s it about? Many thanks!
@@Dvdh2903 It's one of my all time favorite series. The main character is one of those internationally wanted super high level criminals with a lot of clout and is feared in the criminal world, who turned himself in to the feds for legal immunity as long as he helps them catch other criminal masterminds, but he seems to always be two steps ahead OF EVERYONE and is basically using the feds to eliminate his "competition".
I enjoy it because all shows have characters that make you cringe over boneheaded/questionable actions but he gives it balance with savvy moves you usually don't see coming.
His ability to call out hypocrisy to its face and penchant to say the things many viewers are thinking about people who are behind large scale wrongdoing but try and justify it or think they are too big/important to face consequences as he delivers their karma on them.
The kinda guy that's sitting your living room with a pistol when you turn on the lights waiting to dismantle your stupid explanation/excuses with (literally) eloquent words....then a bullet.
No free passes for anyone EVER..unless of course he can use you to his benefit is the only way you will get away with being a dirt bag.
Long comment, but hope this helps lol. :)
It's partially a long running element of the series. The cops just like the criminals aren't perfect. Adds some level of intrigue into the cases since there isn't supercops ready to bust anyone's head open for doing a crime.
Never heard of the show. I watched the movie and was blown away. Definitely going to check out the series!
It’s definitely worth it!
What if they did a twist to Luther to meet M of James Bond and take the job being a replacement of 007 ,especially that Idris Elba was nominated for the role of 007 ,it will be the greatest twist will ever see ❤
Women disrespect him on a daily basis.
Is that just this show being realistic for how UK women are?
My thoughts exactly
This is definitely a Batman universe 👍🏾 I get y’all 007 theory but every character had a Batman role and I loved it 😅
That's exactly what I thought when I watched it. I got Joker vibes from the villain and the way Luther is kind of a conflicted vigilante type reminded of the dark knight.
@@kieran8845this reminded more of the riddler in the most recent Batman movie
I’m still new to Luther series… still getting over Ripley being killed. A few more episodes to go then I’ll watch this movie 🙌🏻
Yeh I love Justin
Absolutely we need more Luther!
Let's hope there's more on the way!
The ending got a little hard to believe in terms of timing. Like they get on a ferry boat from England to NORWAY which would take days , but meanwhile back in England it seems like less than an hour passes. It reminded me of Game of Thrones where characters seemingly teleport to distant locations in very short timespans. At least in the movie they say the ferry is going to Norway but in wikipedia it says the killer's house is in Estonia, which is even further away from England and I don't even think ferries go that far.
whole lotta deus ex machina lmao
@@Daemon1995_ Also Norway is an extremely LONG skinny country, (longer north-to south than the entire United Kingdom) and they likely took the ferry to Oslo which is in the southern part but then apparently drove north into the arctic circle which is hundreds of miles. AND I didn't even get into how the London police got such quick jurisdiction to go after the criminal in Norway when the UK is not in the EU anymore. It would have to be Interpol or the Norwegian police and there would be a lot of red tape. I just feel like the writer randomly picked far northern Norway for the ending just to have cool snowy scenery but skipped over all practical concerns like distances and jurisdictions. They could have switched that villain lair to some remote scottish island and it would have been a lot more believable.
It a f ing movie..
Just like all the parents arriving at the house at the same time and not phoning the police..
It an F ing movie, if you want real time movie them make your own..
We appreciate your effort and hard work. God bless you
Was it just me who felt like there were unanswered questions in this? One time we saw Luther as an agent and the other moment he was in the prison. We didn’t even know the reason. Then he had people in the prison who helped him escape. Who were they and how they agreed to help him? At the ending the guy we saw who was working with the chief, was he not one of them who was watching the killing videos? We should have seen the chief‘s face!! I hope this story will continue to the next season!! So many unanswered things!!
Watch The Series
Those first few questions are things clarified in the TV show!
You shouldn’t have had to watch the show should have showed clips jus like all the other movies do at least say what he did not make me look up this video to find out
@@daynethomas9683 well but they showed you why he was incarcerated? even told you some of the charges. if you want more detail you have to watch the show but they explained enough for you to understand they just got some dirt on him from going rogue often. they couldnt fit 5 seasons of shit Luther did into few clips in the movie, all of it was pretty complex. if they showed too much stuff from the tv show people would complain about too much exposition etc. just watch the show ffs
He has been called by M as OO7
Never seen a villain like this. I'd imagine this is what Joker would do. So many bodies. Here I thought joker or the Riddler from The Batman was a monster but this guy? Holy hell is he demented.
Dude reminded me more of the mad hatter from the DC universe
I just watched this and it is amazing
Holy fucking shit, I never even watched Luther. but this shit was BOMB. But what did callum do?
We never found out! I think that’s the point of it - everyone fears it being revealed!
Amazing video

This was so good I watched it twice !
Such an odd movie, like it wanted to be James bond and suggesting that at the end with the Job, the movie just felt like an audition for Bond.
That's very true! I think a set of Luther movies like Bond would be pretty good!

A bit?! Quite a lot I would say

Everyone needs to realise this is a nod to 007
Well said
I had a problem with Luther handily fighting off inmates in prison and then him having a hard time fighting that killer wanker one on one. And that submerged vehicle scene. Hogwash. Being able to fight and deactivate the mechanism via cell phone and hold your breath in ice water? Haha
Ha! yeah, definetely Jumped the shark by the end. The fight scene was also took me out of the movie for a minute or two.

Some shocking CGI in Piccadilly Circus. Why bother if they didn't have the budget. Nice 2 nods to bond though, declining the Martini and then being called up to MI5 at the end. Neil Cross' sense of humour there. Ha

It was M calling
If the Chief is who I think it is, I’d absolutely love it if Luther did a crossover movie with Spooks.

Some elements of this were very black mirror like.
I’m currently watching the movie whilst typing and I’m baffled I’m sure I’ll understand a lil better by the time I get to the end of the film but how does this continue from the series? Also why would a man who is a fugitive on the run drive the same car and wear the same coat?? 😂
Yeah, my prediction is it was MI5 that went to see him at the end to help them out.
It was M calling proves what I've know about

I thought that after the killer faked them out with the “Anya death” that they would get there hopes up but find her dead anyway
that would happen in the tv show 100%
Did the end just hint at idris Elba possibly becoming the next bond?
It looks as though it set that up lol
My thoughts exactly
That was M calling him for his services means only one thing
What about the ending of season 5? I thought that would be connected to the movie
? bro.....why do you think he was in the prison?
Awesome 👍 movie
It's going to be absolutely infuriating for the good cops to watch criminals get arrested and released because there's not enough evidence even though you may have witnessed him committing the crime.
And be hard not to want to take things into your hands if you know you have the right person and you have no doubts about it and you know they're going to let him go
I thought it was outstanding!🙂

If only they did!
The ending proves this
Oh my God this is superb! This more than make up for all the shits like Emily in Paris and Bridgerton that Netflix has inflicted on us.
I honestly thought this was a good movie I always enjoy Idris Elba movies the only problem I had with this movie was how fucking stupid the main plot in my own opinion is with the whole blackmail thing with out explaining what it was or showing it what if it was black mail for Jay walking or littering with not making it into the trash...
There were a few editing choices I didn't like but it was a good film.
That's fair!
@@BrainPilot they could have developed some bits and leaned more into his superpower of being able to sense good and evil plus yeah the human feeling of Luther got skipped over a tad.

yea I think so too
It's not but M himself calling the country needs OO7

The ending proves what i know about all along that the chief or M required his services, and yes turning down the martini's was a tongue and cheek but the ending wasnt, and ive heard it so many times and it was rumoured that idris elba wanted the role to take over from DC and the EON franchise wants him also and he will bring the generational side to the role, and boy doesnt look the part the charisma, height, the look and the swagger despite his age at 50 and its make me laugh saying he is too old 😂😂😂he could do at least 2 or 3 films with his amazing physicality, and the reason he turned it down because the colour of his skin yeah right ✅️ this is the 21st century Times and generations has moved on for the better and he is british ffs and if he is giving the role it will bring BILLIONS to the franchise and break all records that will never be broken and he was born for the role end of discussion
