My budget friendly alternative: I have a costco jump starter/air compressor. It is a bit larger but it includes an air compressor/light/ and usb jacks.
I had two batteries implode on my Jeep JKU on two long trips. The symptoms were odd, like e-lockers not unlocking, accessory power not charging devices, stuff like that. My point is if you have a modern, sophisticated (complicated) rig, and you start adding a bunch of electrical components, you should really consider dual battery (which I just installed).
My brother is a mechanic and has one of those that has saved me a couple times so yes.. but I'll be going duals and solar panels.. cuz I'm the exception
Just threw down on that Wagan myself. 🙏🤙 cheap insurance for myself, the fam, and anyone who needs help on the fly. Excited to move up to a Northstar eventually. Unless my accessories get out of control, or over landing trips become way more intense, honestly I think single is just fine.
I have a little jump box like he is showing boost something don’t remember but I Love it it holds a charge roughly 2 months and that is with using it two or three times jumping other folks
You can completly remove the auxiliary battery on a JL by disconnecting the positive cable from the aux battery and connecting it to the positive cable of the main battery and completly removing the aux ground cable. Then you can throw the lawnmower battery away.

I check the charge in my jump-started pack monthly, and top it off every 2 or 3 months. Having a reliable jump-started pack has allowed me to move the dual-battery system further down the "To-Do" list so Iwas able to use those funds on an onboard air system instead.
Specific to the FZJ80c i’ve considered installing the windshield washer fluid relocation kit along with the passenger side battery tray in order to have a nice storage area for a tool kit or even my air compressor.
I'd eventually like to have a dual battery system since I have a fridge and lots of area/work lights, for when I work at events. For now, I just run an off the shelf, battery cutoff switch when the voltage gets to 11.5v it cuts off the power to my accessories
Yeah quite risky going bush with 1 battery set ups. Especially running a dometic fridge. Compared to an Engel, them dometic / Waeco brand fridges like using batteries. Either way if your fridge runs your battery down, yes you can jump start but your battery starts to degrade and one day, not even the jump start will help you. The 80 series Landcruiser you have there has plenty of room for second battery, I'm so surprised you don't have one. Even if your trying to keep it minimal you still need to run a fridge and charge cameras or phones which are increasing used as a camera these days. In Australia one of the first mods you do is 2nd battery. Can be a real long way with no phone signal for help around here. I strongly recommend duel battery and a jump pack. Be safe and enjoy.

What about running 12v 25A plug to a truck bed and using a 500w inverter to keep this charged while driving? Wouldn't that be easier if you are low watt usage?
Love your vids and recommendations but I bought another brand jumper off of the web that is a little less powerful; 800 peak amps, but holds a charge for 12 months and is half the price. Warranty is 2 years and it can jump vehicle up to 30x per charge.

I was going to go with the redarc, but then found the Renogy DC to dc charger (also with MPPT) will charge my starting battery once the second is full. Redarc doesnt do that. Ive been very pleased with the stuff from Renogy

You can't use lithium portable jumpstarters to jumpstart vehicles bc of the different lithium chemistries. Without getting into too much, a pouch-style lithium battery (jumpstarting type) can discharge very quickly, but holds less watt-hour. Versus, a lithium power station (18650-type) of battery is slow discharge, but has more capacity (watt-hours). Hope that helps!
What about the ecoflow Delta?? Any feedback from use?? I think it is a great way to have power in the trails without wiring up a full dual battery setup

Well - no. You don't need a dual battery system...unless you need a dual battery system. For your use model, you are squeaking by on an AGM battery that isn't deep cycle, isn't charging all of the way to 100%- probably not past about 85% and you aren't consuming much power if you are only using gear that is operational while the engine is running. You say that you single battery can run the fridge for 3 days -- what is the voltage reading at the end of the three days? Also...how much of that time is spent motor on? If you drive 3-4 hours a day, dont use kit while motor is off and are running your fridge until it hits low voltage cut-off-- brother that can be your plan.
A lot of talking and no reason given why one don't need a dual battery system for auxiliary systems like, fridge, lights, Inverter, etc. A Battery jumper should never be a requirement with a properly specced dual battery system in place, my opinion.

Mike have gone on trail welding with a Jackery inverter.Guy in my party snapped his tie rod.It works fine now.

OB5246 Yup. Running a big Odyssey AGM on my FJC and lovin it. Plus have a manual so I can bump start myself in a pinch.. In theory 😁

What about getting a solar panel first and using it to continually top off your primary battery? THEN get a second battery as necessary.
