The TYR L-1 Lifter got its claim to fame for being one of the first weightlifting shoes with a purposely wide toe box.
This was TYR's first ever weightlifting shoe and they were built in collaboration with Squat University - who is a big proponent of utilizing shoes for lifting with anatomical toe boxes.
As a fan of the TYR L-1 Lifter, and as a shoe nerd in general, I wanted to see what was inside this weightlifting shoe.
We know that most weightlifting shoes use a TPU midsole, but what does that actually mean and how does that look internally to create stability?
To find out, I cut my TYR L-1 Lifter in half to find out what was inside this popular weightlifting shoe.
I mostly wanted to know what the internal framework of this shoe looked like in addition to assessing if the materials seemed to be worth their price.
If you've ever wonder what's inside your weightlifting shoes and what gives them their stability, then this video is for you.
I thought the internal TPU structure was really interesting and I liked how the forefoot had rubber ribs to promote flexibility.

Cut Squat U’s shoe in half and Aaron gonna come looking 👀 for you
I love my Tyr lifters. I greatly appreciate the wide toe box. I hope v2 has better straps (shorter) and a slightly higher heel.
New straps would be lovely on a V2. I wish they'd make 2 options with different heel heights. Have one sit at 1" and the other around .65-75" - that would be OP
This is going to be interesting
I would like to see more weightlifting shoes cut in half
I have more on my list!
Best Reviews on YT 😎🤙. Which shoe for Hyrox training?
Ay, thank you - you want a running shoe or a hybrid-style trainer?
@Jake. Sorry for not making this video related. I've had my primus lite 3s for 2 1/2 years. They are in very rough shape now. I do functional training and Crossfit but also run for upwards of 6 miles.I can keep my trashy Vivos for running if need be.
I'm torn between the Motus, Tolos 2.0, and Primus 3. I'm leaning heavily toward the 2.0. Thoughts?
IMO, they're worth a shot! Plus, they'll save you some money opting for them.
Amazing. Do you have the courage to the RAD One next? Haha
They're on my "to cut" list!
A man of the peolpe
That’s high praise (jake says in a nick cage voice)
the inside of this shoe is more interesting than I was expecting
Right? Especially through the forefoot. I love doing weightlifting shoes!
I'm just a window shopper here. I'm just here to imagine I have this. 😂
Interesting.
Love your channel, dude! Just subbed
@@thatfitfriend hey thanks man! I appreciate you! 🙏
Im thinking of buying this. I have legacy lifter 2. Any thoughts if the marketing is worth this hype wide toe stuff? I just want to feel the difference between the two. Any thoughts on romaleos 4? I know they run narrow so they recommend sizing up. Thanks
There's a use case for them. The marketing is overdone, imo. YOU'RE GOING TO DIE IF YOU DON'T HAVE A WIDE TOE BOX!!!
But fr, they're a cool shoe and could actually feel better if you feel like the Leg Lifter 2s run narrow or tight on ya. Rom 4s are meh, I'd pass on them
It hurt my soul seeing you cut that Camo in half. 😢😂😂😂
The squat u lifting shoes are a step above given they have closer to a foot shape shoe with a wider toe box.
I enjoy them, too!

There is no difference in what Squat U is promoting. It's the same shoe.
@@michaelpietrzak2067 just with a wider toe box, so not exactly.
@@mcmjr405 colorways are all the same width, brody
