  • In today's video I share some feedback on the Tyr L-1 Lifter that gained a lot of popularity as being a wide toe box weightlifting shoe and marketed by Squat University. Are these good enough to dethrone my previous favorite Nike and Adidas?

    Glad to hear you're not typically a strap on guy! 🤣I was intrigued by those shoes, but they were released around the time I started going barefoot. Nice review!

    Nike Romealos 2 for the win. I've had those for almost 7 years and they keep going strong. I'd grab a pair of these if not for the plastic eyelets.

      I liked my Rom2s as well, but after wearing wider toe box shoes for so long, I can't go back to the tight toe box on them.

    Another great video, B. I have been considering these for a while now. Romaleo 2s are still my fav. I recently got some original Adipowers, but theybare a half size too small.

    That shoe looks awesome! I can squat in either flats or heels, but weirdly enough I actually need heels for my competition bench press. I find I can get way better and more consistent leg drive in the bench press if I have heels, may my lower legs are just to short and need the added height. Great video, looks like I'm going to get these or the adipower 3s next.

    Almost got these due to wide feet. Got some good ole Do-Wins as I was skeptical about dropping serious money on oly shoes, and they do the job. These look awesome though. Great review Man

    • @BasementBrandon

      I have not used but have heard the Do-wins are better about width than some of the other brands.

    I have some Sabos that I like to squat in after trying flats for a bit. They're fine, but a bit cramped for my wide flippers. If they start wearing out, I'll probably look into some of these.

  • @ront2457
    @ront2457 11 месяцев назад

    Yes on heels for me. I love my Adidas AdiPowers...I don't have a wide foot but my second toe is longer than my big toe and that can cause issues. The adipowers fit nice for me. But if they wear out someday I might try a pair of the tyr

  • @josephbloxham3992

    I like the velcro because it means I can skip tying the shoes. If it's good enough for my toddlers, it's good enough for me.

  • @StephColbertsonStrength
    @StephColbertsonStrength 10 месяцев назад

    Definitely intriguing but I’m in the same boat - I only use heeled shoes for specific movements now. So I’ll just stick with my Adipowers until I decide heels are better again lol

    I have a pair of Adidas shoes that fit like a high end hockey skate, which is fine because I'm used to that kind of fit, but it would be good to have some room for these long toes of mine to stretch out a little bit.

  • @gaberoo9099

    Same here (I either squat barefoot or with compression socks), but was wondering about flat soled shoes to be used when working out while traveling (when the need to squat at gyms might make squatting with flat soled shoes preferable--for sanitary reasons?--to squatting barefoot or with socks). Any ideas?

    • @BasementBrandon
      @BasementBrandon  10 месяцев назад +1

      I've always liked training with these minimal style shoes when traveling for 2 main reasons. 1st, they're lighter and take up less space than oly shoes. 2nd, I can wear them to walk to the gym and don't have to bring another pair of "casual" shoes in most cases.

    • @gaberoo9099
      @gaberoo9099 10 месяцев назад

      @@BasementBrandon Thx. I don't have a pair of those (I'm guessing any zero lift shoe like Xero, Altra?, Vivo or even tai-chi shoes would fit the bill), but I do have "drivers" by Rothy's (moccasins with no heal and nubbed rubber soles...works in a pinch, but looks really goofy). I'll probably buy the cheapest zero lift athletic shoe to use for both squatting outside of home as well as walking. Xero supposedly has a 5000 mile sole warranty (hard to believe). As an added benefit, I'll get to see if zero-drop/lift is better for my body than super-cushioned walkers (pricey french brand...Hoka or Brooks).

    • @BasementBrandon
      @BasementBrandon  10 месяцев назад

      I have heard the Do Wins are on the wider size comparatively. If you have wider feet though, might make sense to go for the ones specifically made wider. If not, stick with what you know!

    Unrelated to the video, im 14 and im trying to convince my parents to buy me a home gym. What power rack should i buy? I live in europe so my nr 1 pick, the rep pr-5000 v2, unfortunately doesnt ship to where i live. What rack would you recommend? Ideally under 1500 dollars with attachments and shipping included.

    • @BasementBrandon

      TBH if you're just starting out you just really need a squat rack, bench, bar, and some plates. I wouldn't aim to break the bank up front.

    I feel the most ground contact and stability when squatting barefoot.
