All the while, law abiding individuals get severely punished simply for defending themselves. I was mugged twice in one year alone in SF. Both times in broad daylight, both times people quite literally walking feet away from me with averted eyes (due to not wanting to draw attention and danger to themselves). What a joke. Theres a reason myself and many of my peers fled that god-forsaken state.

They are, victims of poverty, poor or no education, power structures indifferent to their suffering, rampant gangs, widespread drug use, food scarcity, decades of colonialism, weak family unit, lack of a social fabric, daily violence and murder, over population, very few opportunities for gainful employment. And so many more reasons. Most people on this planet live a life you couldn't even begin to understand, you just won the genetic lottery and were born in a 1st world country. Educate yourself a little bit. It's the least you can do.
