I love glasspacks. The biggest issue I have with chambered mufflers, Flowmasters specifically, is that it idle they sound like your tapping on an empty beer can.
Hi Cj, Thank you for the suggestion. I believe we are going to do more videos on mufflers and exhaust systems. We will discuss which benefits you gain from each.
Hi Austin,
Using the largest muffler your application will allow will help to reduce any packing degradation by spreading/dissipating the temperature across the larger surface area.
Hi John,
That is the Road Rage Racer available on Genuine Hotrod's website. We will private message you the link. Thanks for watching!
Cool video, thanks for the explanation Summit!.
Make more videos guys! Everyone wants to see whats going on at SUMMIT!!
Thank you for watching!
Got magnaflow turbo xl muffler and it was crazy loud. Later put a cherry bomb glass pack. Killed the higher tones but I still set off car alarms. Gotta go for a delta 50 series. hopefully it still sounds good but not loud
I had Magnaflow on my early gm pickup, and it had the flow and sound of a glasspack, but not the droning noise at cruising speed, quiet inside the cab, nice sounding on the outside,,,, :D
Hi Sean ,
All Turbo Mufflers in general sound the same. Not quite Identical, but very similar and DEFINITELY quieter than Cherry Bombs! :) You may want to see if you can find out sound clip of a Turbo Muffler you are interested in. We have customers that have purchased our muffler and posted videos of the sound. Please let us know if you have any additional questions. Thanks for watching!
Hi turbojeep85, Please stay tuned, we are working on a couple of videos for you. We will let you know as soon as they are posted. Thanks for your suggestion!
Hi Steve,
You can buy the Road Rage Racer on GenuineHotrod website. We will private message a link to you. Thanks for watching!
Does the Dynomax turbo sound remain consistent or does it change like all glass packs do??
I wonder if Magnaflow changes sound.
would you recommend the straight through as a resonator before a MagnaFlow muffler 14832 withought creating to much back pressure?
I have an 05 chrysler 300C I removed my muffler suitcase and a straight pipe was installed and replaced my resonators with magnaflows. I get drone at hwy speeds any suggestions to eliminate the drone? Will the dynomax vt's do the job or installing glasspacks and leave the magnaflows at the reso's?
I have the 2005 z400 179 out of 500 imports.... you guys tune and make an animal of a machine 15 years later it’s still running strong as hell no rebuild yet.
Awesome! Thank you for watching!
Nice Vid I have a 85 IROC want a muffler just a little louder over stock what do you suggest ?
if i installed a thrush glasspack behind the cat followed by dynomax ultra flow single inlet and dual outlet would that add too much airflow restrictions? i wanna install it on my 2013 dodge avenger 3.6L. i've heard my same car with just the glasspack and it sounds awesome but just i bit too loud and would like to have that same sound just a little softer with a calm deep sound. what are your thoughts?
What sounds the best and increases performance the most?
What muffler would you recommend for a 1999 Ford Taurus 3.0 V6 vulcan?I want a moderate tone.
@SummitRacing I own a 2015 lifted Scion xB, with a TRD sport muffler, and a 23” cherry bomb glasspack. It’s a 2.5” inlets. And a 18” larger bulky diameter one. I’ve been having it from 2-3 years and it still sounds amazing. The way it gives a nice deeper growl idling sound is perfect. It does drone but that’s only when u tune it on the engine and take off. When it sits for a couple minutes, it it sounds very sweet.
And that’s why I’m officially love cherry bomb brands. Disturbing the piece since 1968. 😎👌🏼
We are happy to hear you enjoy the cherry bomb muffler and have been happy with it for years. Thank you for watching and giving your feedback!
@@SummitRacing not a problem at all. 💪🏼
Talk about drag radials, and how they work please. I know somethings, but would like to know more.
Thanks.
You guys should put a video out on how to reach each persons goal, in terms of what sound they want, how to get a louder setup, getting rid of raspy sound..etc..
Forced induction, can I use a chambered muffler? Does it matter SC or turbo?
Or is there just a hp cut off, like SC or na up to 450hp for this xxx muffler?
Hi Orrin,
While adding an Ultraflow muffler will add some restriction to your system, it should not hinder your performance. It will though change the sound of the glasspack dramatically!
One question that I can't seem to find an answer ... will the sound differ if the glasspacks are placed in the most common area like just before the axle VS. the glasspack at the pipe end after the axle. This is for a Chevy 350 exhaust system with no other silencers/mufflers/cats attached. Cheers!
I have a 6 gen camaro 2.0T manual. I only want the rear of the car to have a low but noticeable sound kind of like the Ferrari and Lamborghini when they are factory they emit a nice racing but low sound on the back while driving it cannot be heard. What should I do?
Would a turbo style muffler work on a Chevy 6.2 diesel? I'm asking because someone told me the diesel's higher exhaust temperatures would burn out the packing. Thanks in advance.
Okay I just acquired a 01 Eclipse GT V6 & I wanted to know, will it do me any good if I was to place a turbo muffler on it?
Anybody know the name of the toy?????
Hi Betatestersrule08,
Due to having only 6 cylinders it is hard to get a good sounding exhaust, and agreed, a glass pack is probably not the best choice! :) While there are a lot of muffler choices nowadays, a Turbo muffler is an inexpensive alternative for some trial and error to see if that sound is a step in the right direction for you
Can you do a video on about mufflers and exhaust scavenging, and why a particular engine combo may perform better with a single/ dual chamber Flowmaster vs straight pipe off collector, such as matching exhaust with cam lobe separation and valve overlap.
Hi PJ, I sent your suggestion to our video and technical team. Stay tuned!
hey whats up...i have the thrush turbo muffler..i just havent mounted on my 88 civic hatch and wanted to know what would be the sound of it..on a video
Most people I know are going with either the Pypes racepros or the Magnaflows which he doesn't show here. They are both essentially a straight-thru, perforated pipe in normal oval muffler thats wrapped in packing material. No flow restriction like a glasspak but with a more subdued sound than glasspaks.
I have a 1990 Chevy 1500 V8 305ci. I want a exaust system on my truck that sounds like their ATAK system, but of course I don't want to pay the price. So what would be a good substitution?
Just purchased a set of Thrust Turbo from Summit alongside a few orders this month.... every other week I have the need to order something lol
Haha! We appreciate your business.
So which one is the best? I got super 10s on my car
Does the fiberglass melt over time ?
I own a 360 dodge pick up, im looking for a quiet but deep tone, whats your recomendation about it.
+Joc Bonilla ,
We recommend a RUclips search looking for similar vehicles with different mufflers. This is a great way to get a sound clip. Many manufacturers provide sound clips as well. Please let us know if you have any additional questions.
Thanks!
Hi meadows982,
Well, glass packs will certainly be louder but, its hard to say that they would deliver the sound you are after. We can only suggest that you try to find different muffler sound bytes on the net or go to car shows and inquire about a muffler there that has a sound you like. A little research such as this may save you money in the long run! Thanks for watching!
Can you do a cherry bomb vs megaflow?
Another thing about Glasspacks, the bigger they are, the deeper, and quieter the sound. I've got a 32" Magnaflow straight through on my Chevy pickup and it's doesn't have that screaming Cherrybomb sound. Sounds Amazing and I can tell it flows a lot better than the stock muffler though.
+Andrew W Yeah I had the same setup as you. It wasn't the sound I hated, I love it! It was the drone I hated it! I hated driving on the freeway but it would be a little annoying. I do love the glasspacks, always will buy one but I think for a daily, I wouldn't, especially on a V4, V6 maybe. I'm going to buy a new truck and I'm going to try the Vortex and see how I like it.
how about a vid on header selection and exhaust horsepower sizing. since most people go to 3 inch and lose power by loss of back pressure.
I'm wanting to put glasspacks on my truck but there's just something I'd like to know. There is long ones and short ones how do they differ between the length. I was told the shorts made it louder and long made it quieter and I've been told that short made it pop and long made it deep is there anything you can tell me
Wesley Seay all glass packs do is cut out rasp and high frequency sound. Deep exhaust sounds come from a 3 chambered exhaust (like a truck or Dodge Charger , v8 type sound)
I brought a 28 in thrush glasspack and was wondering which end is innlett and outlet there is no markinking on it does it matter which way u put it on
Joe Martinez,
Technically the muffler can be installed in either direction but will be slightly quieter if the internal louvers are turned so the exhaust is directed into the packing.
Y'all should talk about putting in a glasspack or a a turbo muffler on a bmw 2001 x5 and different types of bmw's
How will the Magnaflow Turbo XL Mufflers sound on my 2012 R/T Charger if I keep the stock resonators?
+Langston Curry,
You may want to search RUclips for sound clips of similar applications. There are many sound clips out there. Thanks for watching!
I'm looking to make my v6 dodge Dakota rumble what's the best muffler , flow master super 44 or a glass pack ?
Scott Koko,
We suggest listening to
different sound bytes on manufacturers websites or RUclips to hear which may
appeal to you more. Keep in mind that a V6 application will NOT sound like a
V8, so try to search for sound bytes of V6’s.
Hi John! Thank you for the question. Our tech experts have a few additional questions for you. Can you give us a call at 1-330-630-0240? We look forward to your call! Thanks for watching!
Thank you
I Just Order The Thrush Glasspack The stainless one im planning to put it on my 4cylinder diesel engine what sound i will get on small diesel engine ?
Hi piolo mercado,
We are really unsure what sound you will get. Your best bet is to research other vehicles with the same set up as yours to see what kind of sound they get. We would suggest a search with in RUclips. We see a lot of viewers who install a new muffler and record and post a video of the sound quality the new muffler provides. Good luck!
would a muffler delete true dual 2.5 inch exhaust system with high flow cats be a good choice or would it hurt my performance or engine
Hi jacob steele,
This would really depend upon the current build status of the vehicle and any future plans you may have. Give us a call and we can help you pick out the correct combination. 1-330-630-0240.
They didn't mention that not all straight-through mufflers use fiberglass (like glasspack mufflers generally do). Some have steel wool, some have stainless steel wool, some have ceramic wool, and some have an unspecified acoustical packing material.
I'm thinking about buying a truck I just sold my car today! :)........but I was thinking about engine size...and I'm thinking maybe v6.... I had a glasspack on my previous car and it's was cool for a while but the BAWHHHHHHHHH that it made was just too much!...do u think a turbo muffler would sound good on a v6 pickup truck??....I will start shopping this weekend....
That toy, i want one. Where do i get it?
What do I have to buy to get a deep, more mean sound in my 2012 lancer GT manual? I'm looking for a nice deep sound cause the stock sounds like shit.
Jesus Manuel,
There are a multitude of muffler designs out there but, they are not all available for every car made. Try searching system availability for your car according to year, make & model. Then, find a sound byte of that system on the car that you drive and see if that is what you are looking for. Sometimes people will upload to youtube. Most times the manufacturer will have it on their website. Otherwise, try some car shows or swap meets!
how does the jegs chambered muffler i recently installed on my 360 ram increase my fuel mileage over the previous glasspack? thats a 4-6 mpg increase from 5
My father had that truck. He said his got worse milage as it got older. So I'm betting it was something in the exhaust or cat clogging. You fixed it back to original with the muffler. (Maybe?)
I have a dodge Dakota with a 5.2 V8, I'm trying to get that sweet spot with a nice tinny sounding growl but without massive volume (think of a cougar sneaking up on you, that's what I want), everything I listen to seems to either lose that cranking sound of a straight through v8 or is too loud for the neighbors. Any suggestions?
Hi Perforated611,
The sound a particular exhaust has is due to more things than just a muffler. Engine size, compression ration, camshaft, headers, firing order, etc. all have something to do with the sound a vehicle has. Although the mufflers have a great deal to do with that sound, there are other factors to consider. When you hear the sound that you like, ask some questions first and compare, your vehicle may or may not end up sounding the same!
Summit Racing Alright, thanks for the reply! One more thing: do high performance cams require retuning of the ECM/PCM and do they require aftermarket intakes? Edelbrock says their cams (with the rocky idle) are made to use with edelbrock intakes, but I am trying to avoid gutting my engines electrical system so I can go carbed just to have a camshaft.
I have a 2013 Dodge Charger RT with the Hemi V8. I was thinking of replacing the stock mufflers with Thrush glasspacks and keeping the stock resonators. This setup would be quieter than just removing my stock mufflers and replacing them with strait pipes correct?
Hi lg68jcu,
Agreed! By removing the large factory mufflers and using just glasspacks and resonators things will get much louder, but not as loud as no mufflers at all.
I have a 2014 Dodge Challenger R/T 6-speed manual. I removed the HUGE and restrictive resonators in the rear and replaced them with small (12 inch) glasspacks. The cylindrical factory mufflers in the center are also glasspacks. It sounds deep and loud, but not too loud. It isn't raspy at all. It has a nice V8 growl.
What type of muffler would anyone recommend for a 2000 Accord coupe?
+Marcus Miranda,
We suggest you search on RUclips for similar applications. This will give you a better idea of what kind of sound you would like.
I own a 1996 ford ranger. Im wanting a low deep growl but no obnoxious or sound like anything my truck isnt. What would you recomend and im new to mufflers. Some help is needed!?
+Robert Tm,
Very good question. Different brands have their unique sound. We always recommend a RUclips search, searching for a vehicle similar to yours who have installed different mufflers. Some brands even have sound clips. This will give you an idea of what you are looking for. We also have a video from Flowmaster, explaining the different tones of each muffler: ruclips.net/video/PTMkgXv78Gc/видео.html
+Summit Racing Alright thank you! Hopefully I can find one that fits my truck woth a good sound but nothing thats not believable!
I'm looking for a deep tone, maybe not extremely loud, for my 2006 f150 extended cab v8 4.6L, any help?
+Alex Mallett ,
The deeper tone will come from a turbo muffler, but the best power output would have to be found after dyno testing each muffler as every engine has different requirements. Feel free to give us a call, we can help you choose better with more info. 1-330-630-0240.
+Summit Racing what would you recommend for a190 e Mercedes 2.3 I want it to have a throtty sound also what universal catalytic converter should I go with thank you
Summit Racing don’t know if you still respond but what would be the best on a V6 Holden commodore? (Its an Aussie v6 sedan)
Hi i have a 2008 silverado 5.3 and i liked how a similar truck sounded and they told me it had 2 12in glass packs and true duals and yall help me out on what these things are
William Taboada ,
From the factory your truck had a single exhaust with a large muffler for max sound control. True duals means actually having 2 individual pipes and mufflers (glass packs) installed by a local custom exhaust shop. Many shops will not do this anymore because it is against emissions laws to change. Good luck!
So for max sound . A longer glasspack or a shorter glass pack? I saw some 8in and 29 in . Which one is louder? With better sound
+William Taboada Longer glasspacks are quieter because of more packing, but they're deeper. They'll still be loud but will have a deeper sound and won't pop and crackle like a small 8" glasspack will. Don't know if they still make them, but some companies used to make 48" (yes, forty-eight inch case) glasspacks. Those had a very deep rumble, very mellow cruising but would get fairly loud when you stood on it.
Keep in mind with a catalytic converter, the exhaust runs hot so the packing eventually burns out in most glasspacks. Thrush glasspacks last for a while, Magnaflow glasspacks and Dynomax Bullets last even longer, almost never change sound. If you don't live where they inspect or test emissions, you can most likey get away with deleting the cats, in which case you can run a long glasspack and it'll have a nice deep tone that won't change.
If you want a high quality "glasspack," get a Magnapack or round Ultraflo. Those are stainless so no rust, and they use stainless packing as well as high temp fiberglass, they they won't burn out either. Also, make sure whatever glasspack you get has a perforated core. The Cherry Bomb in this video you can see has louvers (louvered core), which stick out and "catch" exhaust flow which creates turbulence and hurts flow.
What muffler would you put in a 2005 300c
+CarelessGalaxy99 ,
Here are some of the mufflers we have available for your vehicle. www.summitracing.com/search/year/2005/make/chrysler/model/300/part-type/mufflers

Guys I live in a country with extreme car sound laws
My car is a 2005 mustang GT it has the factory exhaust but doesn’t have resonators like the 07+ mustangs, how can I keep my car as quiet as stock if I’ll be running long tubes with high flow cats
Like what’s the quietest resonator and muffler out there?
This will really come down to size. The larger the resonator the more ability it will have to reduce sound. You would need to determine what the maximum size you have space for is and go from there.
I have the sum-682555 and I’m wondering does it matter which end is the inlet/outlet or does it really matter? Please respond
Usually a directional muffler will have an arrow marked flow on it or a stamping stating intlet or outlet. In the instructions it appears the inlet is in the center.
Summit Racing I’m really disappointed with the customer service and the product information.
the Summit muffler has the same sound as a flow master 50?
+rafael reyes,
Which Summit Racing muffler are you referring to?
Hi Todd,
Decreasing resistance to flow by adding a free flowing muffler is just one of the ways you can increase the performance of your car. Give us a call on our tech line and we can help pick out the right muffler for your application.1-330-630-0240
I know packing blows out of a glasspack muffler, how long does it take for the packing to go out of something like a thrush turbo that has some fiberglass packing material in it?
Wes Ankney,
Since loss of packing material is a concern, a better alternative might be one of the Flowmaster series of
mufflers.
Summit Racing I have been really leaning toward the thrush welded muffler, their site didn't mention packing inside those, do they contain packing material?
When I was in my teens I ran cherry bomb and they would only last 1 year tops. They would rust out, I prefer the sound of the OG 40 series Flow Master, especially on a healthy V8. Sound so throaty. I run FM on all my cars
Which one would increase power to my engine . I have a turbo diesel .I have d glass pack muffler .n a tip.. sounds bess .. I think I getting a increase In power .freeflow ..could it be my mind playing games?

I have a 97 nissan hardbody truck with a stock 2.4l ka24 4 cylinder motor in it, will a glasspack muffler damage my engine at all?
Hi GoofyDaGoofGoofTV,
There would be no damage from the use of a glasspack on that truck. Good luck!
Thank you for the info! Have a nice day!
+Summit Racing I have a 2000 mustang v6 will a glass pack damage my engine
lesson learned, dont get a glasspack. i payed for custom job to install it and my truck sounded stock. just go straight pipe and keep the cat. sounds 10x better! and ive talked to several mechanics, and as long as you have pipe coming out of your engine, it will be fine Fernando Jarquin
+GoofyDaGoofGoofTV If you get a louvered core glasspack (like the Cherry Bomb in the video) and install it with the louvers facing the engine, they'll "catch" exhaust flow and restrict it. You have to mount them backwards for better flow and more sound. Perforated core glasspacks are much better, like Thrush, they flow as well as a straight pipe. Plus over time, if you have a cat, the exhaust runs hot enough the packing will eventually burn away and it'll be about as loud as a straight pipe.
Can I add Glasspacks in front of my Flowmasters, on my 88 Thunderbird with 347 Stroker to quiet it. From idle to 30 mph it sounds like a jackhammer. I have no collectors. Just Flowmaster 40's and pipes with chrome extentions.
Hi Jan,
If you have the room and fabrication/welding skills to add them, they will help to absorb some of the exhaust tone, but not all of it.
jan dupree The glass packs will get rid of the high frequency noise, which should make for a much more pleasing exhaust note. Btw, I also have an 88 Thunderbird. Mine has a turbocharged 5.0 motor from a 94 mustang cobra.
I didn't have enough room for the glass packs, but added catalytic converters instead. It has cut down the noise level in half.

hello will a turbo muffler give a beefy sound to a v6 challenger?
Dervonte Parker it will increase the sound but it won't ever sound like a v8.
Dervonte Parker chamber exhaust like Cherrybomb elite chambered or a Gibson MWA is an awesome sound.
I know it sounds kinda dumb but I was thinking about putting that glass pack on a 2.2l ecotec ( alero ) could the lack of back pressure harm my car? It has nearly 205k on it !
skylar wolfe ,
Opening up the exhaust system will allow more air into and out of your motor. By doing this (more air) you will also need more fuel so it doesn’t lean out and damage the motor.
So , I keep it above a half a tank, I actually just installed the glass pack a couple days ago, car seems to be doing fine, just wanting to know if this will eventually harm the car
I might just go ahead and buy a regular thrush muffler or something, just knowing the car has 205k on it bothers me , don't want the engine to blow or something to go wrong because I was stupid and put a glass pack on it
What kind of mufflers do most OEMs use? I'm guessing turbo style?
Many OE mufflers use a combination of chambers and perforated tubes.

how do i get a deep rumble sound for a 05 monte carlo LT 3.8??
Hi OJ,
Keep in mind that because you are down 2 cylinders compared to the average muscle car, you won’t be able to exactly reproduce their sound. We suggest checking out different videos, forums and vendors sites with sound clips to choose a muffler that best satisfies your desired sound.
+Summit Racing aww man
Summit Racing that didn't answer the question
so whats better a cat back straight pipe or a glass pack long or short .....wanting the loudest and most power
Hi Jesse, please give our tech line a call 1-330-630-0240.
open long tube headers would be the loudest and give you the most power, but I would say that is too loud lol.
Jesse Shapiro most power would be h-pipe close after cats (or test pipes) or x-pipe , into cherrybomb glass packs or ultraflow type than into a chambered exhaust (optional but sounds good but isn't straight flow) no muffler and straight pipe would be highest flow and hp but sounds aweful and also a side note, don't confuse back pressure with the vacuum that is caused by the exhaust gases escaping. The escaping gases pull the next pulse or "detonation" that goes out you exhaust. Same principle as syphoning. Hopefully that all made sense.
With the setup I just gave , results will sound like an idling truck (deep) and no rasp or close to no rasp when rev in increased.
All the muflers ive used never had the sides cut out of them.lol
what happens if iput flowmaster on then it goes through glasspacks?
Two mufflers? Why? I think a turbo style muffler would suffice.
Hi Caryl,
You would get a truly unique sound!
The " glass pack " looks like the inner tube is louvered not perforated like the host said. Louvered hurts flow while perforated does not.
will a glasspack flow better than a chamber style muffler?
+Marc Bowman Generally speaking, a straight-through design like a glasspack will flow better than a chambered muffler because those chambers and baffles will slow-down the exhaust flow and create turbulence and drag.
*****
So they say, but racecars usually have headers and straight pipes. Besides, there's still plenty of backpressure from your factory exhaust manifolds, catalytic converter, and factory exhaust pipes.
this would be a great video for a 10 year old.. but anyone who is shopping at summit should know basic info like this by now.
im all about glass packs. ill never put anything but glass packs on.
Question, when you used a glass pack did you use it as a muffler with no resonator, or did you use it as a resonator? also did it sound deeper or just louder in general?
MJPOWERUP15 cherry bomb glasspacks like on here I think sound horrible, they just sound like open headers and unless you have a great motor they sound gross and don't really help bottom end power... the magnaflow straight throughs or others like that sound waaay better but they're more expensive, but they add bottom end... also you don't need a resonator or anything but If you want it quieter you could add stuff like that
Okay thank you, my plain before was to get a magnaflow for my muffler but I wanted to do something with the stock resonator. I do agree that glass pack might not be the best option for using solely as a muffler but I feel like putting that in place of my resonator and having the magnaflow as a muffler might work well. I have thought about straight piping that part (the resonator) but I've kinda heard bad things about that. (also note no I do not want to buy a full exhaust system like a catback) btw its going on a Pontiac G6 gt 3.5L
Glasspacks are good in town. Just put 1200 miles with brockman mellowtones in a 58 Chevy wagon. At 2100 RPM it’s just too loud. They are longer ones too.
@@maaaxxd372 Glasspacks are the answer. Amen.

Two categories of mufflers: Flowmaster original 40 series and everything else.
Put a glasspack on one of my trucks. Best thing ever. Sounds great and gets better mileage and power. No such thing as a good stock muffler!
the glasspack is the type of muffer on a honda or the fart can
I own that exact same toy 😂
Cristian Guerra I want one where can I get one
Silence the sound you'll silence the hp...
Learned that yrs ago at the track. Nothing but Glasspacks if powers what counts.
Also the main engine killer "engine heat" is stifled along with sound and is also held into the engine longer and long term engine life is greatly affected.
A lot of 60' very early 70's engines lasted over 300k mile mark like Pontiac 400, Ford 302 and those Mopar 318/slant 6 ect..just couldn't be killed even with a 44 Magnum. Along came Cat converters and long term engine life suddenly just went away for many yrs.
Another off subject fact is the soft shift trans people love to have. To shift softer car makers made the trans actually slip while its shifting so its shifts not felt much. Why trans shops express how shift kits extend trans life as they take the slip out making shifts harder.
