John and Stella. My wife, a 3.0 just finished a 7 week DUPR league. I promised to teach her the tour, but now Stella will teach her, thank you Please no comments or likes. 😅
John, I did note during the setup that you had the cones set up at 45-degrees from the kitchen line, but when Stella was hitting her shots, she was close to 90 degrees from the net. I think her form looked great, and as it should have been.
John, as you know, I watch all of your tutorial videos and recommend them to anyone trying to learn or get better at the sport of picklepaddle. This one is my new favorite. It's a Cincola classic, with great breakdown of the macro skill into components that are then added together to create the finished product. I will be deploying this method to teach some new students today. Well done.
John C, what distinguishes you from other teaching pros is you dissect the subject into each different part and you’re able to explain the what’s, the whys and the how’s, making it easy to understand because it makes sense and it goes beyond just the technique into the logic. I do enjoy watching and learning from you. Thank you!
Thanks John! That breakdown of the mechanics simplifies the backhand stroke immensely. I like the 45 degree stance and use of the hip rotation to generate the stroke.
As an avid tennis player who always used a single handed backhand, I’m finding that in PickleBall, the two handed backhand is really helpful. Thanks, John & Stella, for breaking it down for me. I can’t wait to practice this & then use it to improve my game!
I spent the last few weeks trying to practice my double backhand by deliberately using it more at my social games. I wish I have seen Stella before that.
Great stuff as always! I think I much prefer the old summary screen which looks like a Quick Card (white background, black and pink text), than the current. I would screenshot them and keep them for quick reference. They look really nice with all of them being the same format/theme. Hope it comes back. Cheers.
Great lesson, as always, John. The simplicity of the lesson steps in what you do are what stands out as replicatable. Stella did a great job, and there is a mild resemblance🙂
Thanks, John. I've added these tips to my list of tips on how to hit a "twoey" Put left forefinger on paddle face; focus on the grip with left forefinger and middle finger Use a loose grip, and keep arms loose Keep head still (looking at the ball) Keep both elbows in Stance should be 45 degrees from directly facing target Bend knees and stay low Take a short backswing (just behind you), with the paddle face down initially then turning perpendicular to the ground at contact Increase your torso rotation speed the further you are from your target Keep shoulders level (don't dip the front shoulder or let it fly open during contact) Contact the ball slightly behind your front knee Move weight towards target Extend arms toward target Follow through towards target, then end the follow-through over your dominant shoulder Anything you would change from the list above?
@@johncincolapickleball I guess the right way to execute it so the ball would go to where I want it to go? Also do I just have to practice it even though it feels so awkward all the time or do you suggest just sticking to my backhand as my backhand is working so far on most of my returns. Thank you John!
Thank you! You are an amazing coach. I started playing 6 months ago and people are asking who is helping me as I have progressed so well. 😊 You! Thanks again.
Another awesome content and tutorial John, any tutorial on the 1-handed backhand, your tutorials so informative I have saved them, I myself coming from a tennis background just started this year playing pickleball
This is the first video giving me the confidence to work on developing a two-handed backhand. (Ha, ha ... you said you would pick a comment with no likes or replies for a paddle giveaway so someone is "liking" every comment:)
This video really helped me. It made my contact point repeatable and my wieght transfer solid. The set up and follow through helped me create a complete swing. I am guessing everything is shorter and more compact when the ball arrives with pace.
Teaching a 4 th and 5 th grade group in October and was looking for simplified progressions. The use of their opposite hand is tough for that age group (I use foam balls for them to strike w/ bare hand first and reiterate the paddle is an extension of your hand) . Especially like the palm down tip to get the natural swing for topspin. Thanks!
Love the breakdown to step-by-step. Can you make a part two video but focus on the footwork on how to get your body positioned for the ball to do the tuey?
Funny enough I've just played in a tournament against a 9 year old prodigy who had the best two handed backhanded I've ever seen. This feels fitting. Great video!
As a youth baseball coach I always used progressions like this. Professionals often use progressions but you rarely see it. Once you can feel these check points you can start to feel the mistake and correct your own problems
No power on the twoie comes from leading with your right arm. Don’t pull through the shot with your right arm, but rather push through the shot with your left arm. Practice holding your left hand tighter on the grip than the right hand. It makes your brain remember that you’re swinging with the left arm, not the right arm. When you try a twoie but too much of the swing is with your right arm, all the power gets sucked out.

great!
nice touch to include your daughter to show how simple the movements are and even at a young age this can be done, thank you for this

its a good starting point but dont always need to stand 45
“ Touch it before you hit it”…… that’s the key to spin. If only I could make it happen more consistently!
John you are okay, but Stella is soo cute. Great bring your daughter into the video.
thank you

the next ALW
@@johncincolapickleball I was already thinking she'd either be playing with ALW or would be coached by her.
Your daughter is adorable and seems like a natural! Great tips...I need two hands just for the strength!
gracias!
Me too!
Thanks John!

Looks like you got your old "backyard" court back :)
for a bit, yes
Great breakdown on the mechanics of this shot, thank you!
you are welcome!
She's going to be the future of pickleball
yessir
I like the breakdowns you do for each shot.
This 3 step progression makes learning this shot much easier.
I think transitioning my grip from right handed Continental to the flatter backhand grip quickly will be my challenge.

Perfect process.
thank you!
Played tennis with a one handed backhand. Now with pickleball, I've decided to go with a two handed. This video makes it look attainable. Thx.

@johncincolapickleball yes, my friends were quite impressed I'm not standing at the corner to favor the forehand like most of them. 😎
Can't wait to see how good Stella is going to be

Great 🥒 ball video!
Now what about for the one handed backhanders!

Thanks, John. I've added these tips to my list of tips on how to hit a "twoey"
Put left forefinger on paddle face; focus on the grip with left forefinger and middle finger
Use a loose grip, and keep arms loose
Keep head still (looking at the ball)
Keep both elbows in
Stance should be 45 degrees from directly facing target
Bend knees and stay low
Take a short backswing (just behind you), with the paddle face down initially then turning perpendicular to the ground at contact
Increase your torso rotation speed the further you are from your target
Keep shoulders level (don't dip the front shoulder or let it fly open during contact)
Contact the ball slightly behind your front knee
Move weight towards target
Extend arms toward target
Follow through towards target, then end the follow-through over your dominant shoulder
Anything you would change from the list above?
