great video. A guy who went from 4.5 to 5.5 over about 6 months told me something similar, he just started analyzing and making small tweaks, like the advice about never attacking straight at the player and target it. These are things I've heard, but this video was cool to see how much weaker the counter was. I don't think it was exaggerated for effect. That same guy said the same thing about lobs. I started the day thinking I was as good as that guy and he just trounced us. Small things!
Another great video! I will step back at the kitchen on a ball that is attackable and rifle a top spin flick, but my body is not leaning back and I am ready for their counter. I will also speed up at their body focusing on their right hip(right hander) if they have their paddle in a backhand ready position and not neutral. Against high level players you might get away with it 1 or 2 times and then they will punish you! The key is to be unpredictable!
Excellent video. FYI Michelle and I are in England getting ready to play in the England pickleball open next week. Hope we can bring a gold medal home to the USA
Great video. As a 4.0 player I definitely catch myself doing a couple of these. For me it's I know I should not do these things, but at the stage where I have to still consciously think about it. Cause it is easy to not focus and go on autopilot but my autopilot is fueled by bad habits. I know I should not go cross court when out wide, or attack at the body but still do it because I am not thinking.
@@BrionesPickleball yeah for sure. I have started to drill much more now. I hit a big plateau around 3.5 playing 4.0, and 4.5 and my extensive tennis background wasn’t enough anymore. It’s getting better, the more I drill the more it becomes instinct
I see myself being aggressive when I am out of sorts and returning cross-court in wide dink rallies. Good information, I will apply this tomorrow morning. I always ask my partners that lob from the transition zone why they did that. They always answer "I don't Know".
The lob is a big portion of my game, but I do get it slammed back at me frequently. Thanks for the reminder to use it more judiciously and in the right circumstances.
Quit using it too many players can easily attack it. And if your lobs are that easily attacked your partner probably doesn't appreciate it either. Keep that in mind
I may have seen pros lob from transition one, mostly the ladies. But it's definitely one thing I need to stop now that you mention it. But if you can make them retreat for it... Say you and your partner are out of position. A deep lob can give you time to position yourself for the upcoming smash. And have a better chance at reset because it will be coming from deeper part of the court.
A lob from anything further back than the kitchen line only happens because you’re lacking some confidence in your drop. It’s always a better shot to just hit a clean drop.
I sometimes lob from transition when I'm pressed and reaching. Usually this is not when Im in a position to drive the ball. As long as you don't lob short, at lower levels (id say below 4.5) it can still be effective.
I do have some luck doing speed ups aimed at the body since it's harder to move out of the way. Aiming away from the body might raise your chances of hitting the ball out.
I just can't help to speed it up toward the center of the torso, whick is happen to be the biggest target. Just have a instant hi when i tags them or handcuffed them. It works against most 3.5 players. But like you say, against higher level players it is never going to work. Anyway, it's hard to resist the temptation of bodybag somebody. Just for the fun of it.
Which ones do I do? All of them. And I'll be stopping all of them. I lolipop deep and high when behind or I'm the 2nd serve and I've served a couple into the net or out. I'd love to be able to get the returning team off the kitchen line, though.
I lollipopped my serve for an entire summer when I was a beginning, using the exact same technique that later became my 3rd shot drop. My 3rd shot came easily, because it was just a smaller version of my lollipop.
Hey Jordan, love your videos. That said, your choice of words that you are using to get your audience to go to the masterclass website, that the course can be had for free, is wholly misleading. Clickbait and verbal manipulation in advertising is rampant and I hate to see you doing it.
Thanks. Also, is it not misleading at all. Please let me know what you mean. By putting your email in to sign up, we send you a video (the masterclass) with includes incredible value, and THEN the option to purchase our online course that we’ve spent hundreds of hours on and thousands of dollars to make. Again, pleasing let me know how you are being mislead.
@@BrionesPickleball Hi Jordan, thanks for your response. As I mentioned, I love your videos, so there was no criticism about your content. To be fair, I didn't even notice that the video on the signup page was the free stuff to which you are referring. I understand that now. My confusion I guess was generated by the placement of the countdown timer directly below the free instruction video. This combined with you saying that the attack "class" is free, while finding out later that the "course" is what costs. The names are similar and you did actually say the "class" is free. At the 4:04 point in this video you say, "I just want to make sure you know about our attacking master class. It's packed with drills and insights that will show you how to take control of your opponents and attack like a pro so that you can be the most dominant player on the court. It's completely free, just go to attackmasterlass.com and signup." In summary, I'll walkback my comment that the presentation of the class/course was misleading. Rather, at least for me it was confusing. (obviously, lol)

Great tips. Coming from Div 1 and 5.0+ tennis for years....breaking the habit of attacking the body of the person at the net is a tough one.
Absolutely! Thanks for watching!
@Jordan, great video. You talk a lot about using different grips for different shots. Are you switching grips during the game depending on the shot?
Yes…. Video on this coming very soon!

“Lollipop their serves” … Collin Johns exits the chat
And Matt Wright but those are the only Two😂
Their serves are stronger than 3 years ago at least.
Also,
That’s a small percentage of pros that don’t push their serve
I definitely need to improve on all 5.
