I've had an accuracy issue with a Savage 17hmr in bolt action in the past, where it drove tacks but had 1" flyer every 5-6 shots. In my case it was very poorly headspaced, and cleared up after I removed the barrel and set it properly. Not sure if that the case here, but best of luck in getting it figured out!
I agree Richard. The rifle isn't performing as good as it should. Also the ammunition does not seem to be very reliable. 5 or 6 duds in less the a full box of 50.
The ammo is about 10 years old, I bought it when I bought my Bmag, but it's been stored in a cool dry place. The amount I had to adjust it to even get it on paper, is way too much. Thanks for watching!
Cavedweller59 had major accuracy issues with his A17 in 17 HMR and the only solution was to completely bed the action and the barrel now it shoots under MOA for him.
Finally got the Savage A17 in 17WSM. scoped it with a Vortex and using American eagle ammo. No problems sighting it in. I did have to get couple of new mags as they are different than a B mag for this rifle. had a problem getting the cap to stay in place where U clean the rifle but so far Rifle is a straight shooter.
Can I ask where you sourced the A17 WSM mags? Just got the rifles and noticed that the BMag ones are slightly different? Looking for ordering info for these. Savage didn't have them on their website.
Your response has me itching to hit the range with mine for the first time. I just got the barrel back from getting threaded. I installed a Salmon River Solutions 4” SRS arca rail and have the glass bed job curing right now. What kind of groups did you get with your setup? Also, how much did the extra mags cost? I plan to call Savage again tomorrow to check availability.
@@jaymoore4696 My groups at 50 yards were within a 2c cent piece with five rounds. If I remember I bought 3 more mags and I think with shipping was maybe $107.00 or close to that. I highly recommend Federal American eagle. Have tried them all and American eagle has less misfires and pretty darn accurate. I knew this was being offered but didn't realize it was released. I have a couple B-mags and really like this cartridges preformance on game. All tbree put the smack down on our large Coyotes called in close. Im gonna look for one of these autos!! ❤❤ Thanks for the Video. I ALWAYS used ta but ADJ OBJ scopes for my RF rifles. Today, I prefer SIDE FOCUS.
Vortex 6.5x20 will do wonders also sighting in the rifle 1 inch high at 50 yards will put you right on at 100plus. I been shooting 17 WSM for years. I also found that any other ammo than Winchester works better.
100% Agree about the Winchester Ammo. I believe that’s why Volquartsen stopped making the semi WSM, it wouldn’t meet the 1/4” or 1/2” MOA. Now that these finally came out, Hornady, Browning (Winchester),American Eagle (Federal), & the Winchester stuff. Hopefully CCI will make some too. Might try the lead free stuff in 17gr, or the 20gr & 25gr too. I guess I got lucky my A22 WMR & A17 HMR shoot very well.
Kinda funny since Winchester makes every piece of 17wsm ammunition regardless of what the box may have said in the past. LOL I'd definitely record and report the lot numbers to Winchester Ammunition.
At work, any time someone dropped their level, we would ask if they were calibrating it. I'm not sure that's the way it should be done, though! Lol. Thanks for watching Squib!
Where were you able to find this rifle? I have been after one since they announced it, never have seen one. emailed savage several times asking if they even exist and where I could buy one. Also, have you looked into stock issues? My Bmag had several issues. Fliers like everyone else complained of, also the cock on close bolt malfunctions a lot. Had to take the stock off mine and bed it with epoxy. Once i did that, cleaned up all flier issue, shoots very accurately to about 400 (with no wind present). You may tear it off he stock and look into that
I was put on a list almost 2 years ago for this rifle. I didn't have any accuracy with my B-Mag. I haven't tried anything with the stock. My biggest issue is the 72 clicks needed to bring it close to the point of impact, with two different scopes. There is something going on with it, I'll let Savage figure it out. Thanks for watching!
Maybe, but that probably wont explain the 72 clicks to the right, on two different scopes. I think there's a little something else going on. Thanks for watching!
@@SmallCaliberArmsReview I agree with that, my rings are vortex I believe medium height on the bolt action model and they work well hitting targets at 75-120 yards with the 20 grain no problem.

Sadly, another turd from today’s Savage. I have a rifle boxed up to return to the factory right now for trigger issues. I can remember when Savage guns were solid and accurate out of the box. Not sure what’s going on over there.

It could be the ammo, I've had it for about 10 years. The BMag has been flawless as far as I can remember.
