No kittens were declawed during the making of this video. What do YOU suck at that you want to see on the next installment of This is Why You Suck at Guitar?!
It baffles me that this channel isn’t “bigger” in the RUclips community for guitarists. Sorry if that sounds like a backhanded comment. Your channel is not only hilarious in commentary, but informative in a truly practical and actionable way. Keep it up man. It’s been for years one of my go to lesson searches. Thank you for providing so much to people like me.
Im not trying to bash anybody but most huge channels are just commercials for gear and now they have commercials for dollar shave club or super mobile games in the middle of the gear commercial. Sadly you can improve the way you sound way more by a little effort of learning more than you can with a new spiffy distortion pedal that sounds like the last 3 distortion pedals you've already bought. Thank god for guys like Ben cause Im broke.
@Newbyrock23 i completely agree with you on your comment. Ben is by far the best guitar tutorial channel and best teacher on RUclips. I think why he doesn't have as many subscribers is because he actually teaches instead of doing lame gear reviews that all the same guys do of the same gear. Ben is the shit, and I mean that with the up most respect. 🤘
So THAT is how major minor diminished works. Like Strat Pack said - light bulb time. Read so much about the topic, but never got it until now. Thank you so much, Uncle Ben! Whole new theory of relativity...
Hello Ben, Hope all is well with you! I don't usually comment much on RUclips videos, but you are by far and away the best teacher with loads of patience and you explain modes, scales, chords and songs and what makes them in the mode, key, scale and so on in each lesson you teach. When I see your new vids I click, and I'm an advanced player, but i always learn something new Ben. Keep up the excellent work and maybe my stepdad will have a new found respect for me! 😉
ben ive been playing for 18 years religiously and to find a no filler channel that reinforces what i know and to expand with simple music notions is what i and many need to stay fresh or at least give the oppurtunity to do so. cheers brotha
Thanks uncle Ben for taking the time to do that for us. Ice made everybody who did not bother to tell me this before. Most valuable information thank you
Had to come back to this one because I wasn't ready for it when you posted it but, mind blown. Love learning how to simplify things. You are the best teacher, hands down
I have always had feelings growing up, and well it was time for me to let them go. Thanks for having the same name as me, as I don't trust people on the internet very easily! Badass lesson \x/
Uncle Ben is really cool. I love the step mom and step dad jokes and the country and western joke😂. It makes learning (for me) a lot more fun. Keep up the great work Uncle Ben!
this is a really good introduction to some really big ideas in music theory, like chord substitution and so forth. you get some classic 80s metal harmony by playing, for example Em, G and Bm arpeggios over an Em chord. for me the realisation that the diminished triad occurs in a dominant 7th chord (the V of the I-IV-V blues progression) was a game changer, because you can then play all this tritones over a whole load of chords and it will still sound good or 'right'. however, "agreeance"?!
Joe Pass thought of chords in three flavors, major minor and diminished. So he would play diminished over the the third of the dominant, and minor 7 flat 5. Nice work Ben.
Î thought Joe Pass thinks in minor, major and dominant - isn't it the way he organized his voicings in his book? Though dim is very nice in those applications.
Uncle Ben, i always watch your videos and learn new things how not to get stuck. So while still struggling to make a living as a guitarist or get a date could you also make a video on how to get a long badass hair and maintain it? Something that would make Sindel leave Shao Kahn just by looking at epic mane. Thank you for everything Uncle Ben.
That’s not by chance the strumming pattern for Steely Dan’s Josie in the funk examples? I knew I was bobbing my head for a reason... as always thanks for the lesson uncle Ben!!
guitar techniques or total guitar, I forget which, did a thing about what sound you get by playing different arps over a chord a month or so back. it was a good read.
I use the circle of fifth To know the triads. Travel accross the circle of fifth by fifths or thirds, or even sevenths, it will open the whole guitar. E.g : Cm - D# - Gm . A Nice diatonic triangle. You'll be set to play songs knowing the tonal center and relative diatonic chords.
I would like to see something about combining descending and ascending arpeggios with different chord changes. I hope I explained that right lol. Ex. Em ascending to Am descending to D#dim7 ascending. How to use something like that. Thanks Uncle Ben, your lessons are a revelation!
My wife wanted to know if that was the Wild Stallions playing "in there" (my studio) No, I said it's one of Bill or Teds boy giving guitar lessons on the computer. LOL- BTW I am not a step dad, I only play one in a daytime TV show. Love the lesson, actually enjoy the theory, Thanks!
This lesson couldn't have come at a better time for me. Thanks for the lightbulb moment...btw Ben I am sad I got removed from your FB page. I even had top fan status and been following your channel for well over 2 years. I understand if you have to make room for others. going to miss out on all those cool Skank Banger pics now
LMFAO @11:50 "Go on a quest to find the D, just like your stepmom does"!!! Had to pause the video because I couldn't stop laughing and I would miss valuable info 😂 Thanks Uncle Ben 🤘
BEN ELLER< can you make a youtube video explaining how randy rhoads used MODES in his licks and guitar solo. LA guns has a song called "sticky fingers" which the guitar solo sounds like randy rhoads, I don't know which MODES the guitar solo is using but it sounds like randy rhoads. I don't know how to finger tap using MODES or how to finger tap in diminished or in phrygian dominant mode, can you show examples of finger tapping in this neoclassical way?
No kittens were declawed during the making of this video. What do YOU suck at that you want to see on the next installment of This is Why You Suck at Guitar?!
Intervals, string skipping, hybrid picking, dimished ideas. Keep doing what you're doing, Uncle Ben!
Uncle ben plzz.make a video tribute to pantera.....
Your fretboard memorization sucks.
Know your board(ascending sharps, decending flats, enharmonics, etc...).
Killer licks utilizing open strings, chromatic ideas, maybe a whole lesson on Vito Bratta's style.
How to play over chord changes! And improvisation tips.
Ben dropping lessons so hard on us it's like he saw our report card
Hahahahahahahaha xD

And 256,000 subscribers is a hell of a lot, for a guitar instructional video. That says a tremendous amount right there.
_ItsNewby_ Because he isn’t selling shit or name dropping or being sad and depressed. Good guy’s always finish last, unfortunately.
My extended arpeggios don't suck since I've never played a single one of them. Joke's on you, Uncle.
David RF you got me!
Arpeggios you can take to the bank!
My step dad is so pissed that I shred like my real dad now. Thanks Uncle Ben!
I can't believe you made me spend my Sunday practicing arpeggios over changing chords with a metronome.
"Just like your stepmom does every weekend" lol!! That killed me!!
"Country and Western" was also gold! Thank you!!!
Thank you for all of your lessons and videos. You are definitely one of my favorites.
@@eriktorsteinhansen thanks for stealing my comment, lol! That was brilliant.
I read this at the exact moment he said it in the video and it scared the shit out of me

Bradley Briscoe hey man, thanks a TON! Means a lot!
You really are a great teacher, easy to follow and engaging. Bravo.
I look forward to these videos every week! Always something new that I didn't realize I suck at and all weekend to practice. Uncle Ben is a real hero.
You crack me up Uncle Ben milking the Iguana as we speak
Uncle Ben makes the best lessons! I just can't get over his death in spiderman tho :[
I like the theory of (harmonic) relativity E=mc7 🤔
Thanks for teaching us things we don't want to learn good stuff
1:38 If Uncle Ben sais "all the cool kids are doing it", I believe it!
ben ive been playing for 18 years religiously and to find a no filler channel that reinforces what i know and to expand with simple music notions is what i and many need to stay fresh or at least give the oppurtunity to do so. cheers brotha
Declawing a tiger takes time... to heal up between maulings but I’ll still work on these between physical rehab appointments 🤘🏽🐅
It’s nice hearing in words and logic the things I’ve played for decades, but have no language or dialogue about it. Thanks uncle B.
Excellent lesson. I appreciate you brother
Best explanation of apreggios I've heard - I actually understood what was going on! Light bulb time. Thanks Uncle Ben!
greatest guitar instructor/teacher on youtube!! hands down! All hail father ben!!
Dude, not only are you a great guitar player and teacher, but you are also a great comedian.
And - you can use it in "Country AND Western" songs! Crack me up! I'll never look my guitar neck in the eye again either! Great video, UB!
Thank you, you have helped to make it more clear for me.
You make it sound (relatively) simple. Love the dry sense of humour too. Thanks
Thanks uncle Ben for taking the time to do that for us. Ice made everybody who did not bother to tell me this before. Most valuable information thank you
Very informative, nice job
Did you just teach the entire concept of modes without even mentioning them? .... You're a wizard.
As one wise guitar teacher taught me:
"It's all in how it's resolved, my guy." :)
Nice lesson dude...this has always been my weakest point!
This is a Big Bang for your buck lesson. An interest rate even my step dad can appreciate! Thanks Uncle Ben!
Quickly run to vitamin shop looking for b7
Lol
thank you for this great lesson, very helpful.
Had to come back to this one because I wasn't ready for it when you posted it but, mind blown. Love learning how to simplify things. You are the best teacher, hands down
Good lesson Uncle Ben!
wow, quite possibly the best guitar lesson I've ever seen.
Awesome lesson! Can you do some more of these please?
Excellent video :) "Harmonic Relativity", sure sounds like an album title by Dream Theater :D
Dude, your an awsome teacher. Thanks for your time and well thought out easy to follow lessons.
Really well explained as usual.....great work mate. Thanks. 🎸🔥👏😉
Watching this on Thanksgiving. As always, epic timing Uncle Ben. Touché sir.
Thanks , Ben! More stuff I have all but forgotten. 😝
Just hopped on board the Patreon train. A small thank you for years of service. Thanks Uncle Ben!
Thanks for explaining this stuff if I read it in a book by myself would be like learning algebra in Chinese. Nice one thanks
I have always had feelings growing up, and well it was time for me to let them go. Thanks for having the same name as me, as I don't trust people on the internet very easily! Badass lesson \x/

Pure gold man!!!
Amazed same as the first time watching! One of top yt lessons for sure, and I’ve watched a lot!
This was great lesson Ben. It was quite helpful for me.
Can you also make a lesson on harmony including bass guitar + chords + melody together?
How bout a lesson on that intro run? I've always wanted to learn that.
Special Thank"s for Cliff Burton surprise!

I enjoyed this video - useful, interesting, and the dash of occasional humor was also appreciated - thank you
Concept with a lot of potential for tasty playing explained simply... well done uncle Ben
New sub here. Best lessons on youtube! Oh and I found the D if you want to send your stepmom over lol
Mixolydian mode goes perfectly with the "dominant chord sound" arpeggio.
That half diminished 7th chord is also super cool
That's diminished chord with a minor chord on top (3 half steps up)
Overkillius exactly right!
Finally i understand all the weird chords Matt Bellamy does thanks Uncle Ben !
You are my best uncle! Thanx for knowledge, Ben!
im a simple man: i see a new Uncle Ben video, i click like
"go on a quest to find the D just like your stepmom does every weekend!" I almost fell out of my chair.. great video!
I watched the entire video not knowing what the heck is going on. I realize that I may be more cut out for the tambourine. Very entertaining thanks.
Damn Ben, that stepmom comment was a coffee spitter, well played. Oh the lesson was cool as well.
Joe Pass thought of chords in three flavors, major minor and diminished. So he would play diminished over the the third of the dominant, and minor 7 flat 5. Nice work Ben.

Dizzy Guitar Oooohhh yea, you're right! Oops!! Lol...
Was getting joe confused with my own way smh😂
@@spaceantelope1 : I guess you were confused by your own way of thinking :D - but both ways work.
Dizzy Guitar Yea, Lots of people get me and joe pass confused, not just myself😂
I love these videos. Keep 'em coming, Uncle Ben! Great content for apprentice, journeymen, and master Shredi Knights!
Thank you

But the brutal step-mom dig at 20:23...so quick, so perfect, so funny. HAHAHA
You really do a great job explaining, one heck of a teacher. 🙏🏻
That’s not by chance the strumming pattern for Steely Dan’s Josie in the funk examples? I knew I was bobbing my head for a reason...
as always thanks for the lesson uncle Ben!!
Michael R. Zook Jr. haha you got it!
Best channel I’ve ever subscribed to

Thought you were going to rip into Get Lucky at 19:19.
11:49 Uncle Ben doesnt miss a one of 'em!! 😂😂😂
Can you show us that riff at the intro?! That is really good!
Dude can you do a video on Bolt Thrower style riffs, or Old School Death Metal?
My wife wanted to know if that was the Wild Stallions playing "in there" (my studio) No, I said it's one of Bill or Teds boy giving guitar lessons on the computer. LOL- BTW I am not a step dad, I only play one in a daytime TV show. Love the lesson, actually enjoy the theory, Thanks!
That stepmom comment was hysterically brutal! 🤣🤣
the ol Cliff Burton surprise :D

Gary Lisbon whoa! Fixing that ;)
When approaching an E Major 7 it is important to bow. Then maybe he will let you ride him! Lol!
I laughed out loud really hard at 2:30. Ben you are a genius.
Fred Durst approves of your use of agreeance.
"Go on a quest to find the D... Just like your stepmom does every weekend" Haha, love it Ben! You rock! Any new Whitechapel solos coming up? :D
Wow I held a microphone next to a cranberry, added some volts and stone me I got D# !!! Great fun these earplugios! :-)
LMFAO @11:50 "Go on a quest to find the D, just like your stepmom does"!!! Had to pause the video because I couldn't stop laughing and I would miss valuable info 😂
