Lol Uncle Ben is the slightly hardass teacher that you think is trying to insult you at first but ends up being an absolutely amazing mentor and helping you unlock the secrets for yourself by pointing you in a direction that helps your progress grow. Thanks Ben. You are a huge reason for my guitar renaissance and certainly the main reason why I have made more progress on guitar in the last four months than I ever had in 10 years of wankery. Now I always have something to be thinking about, practicing, or trying to unlock on the guitar neck. You made a guitar neck a “big, friendly place“ for me Ben, something that I never felt like over an entire decade of playing guitar. Thank you for what you and channels like yours do for the love of this instrument
I feel the same. I stopped having guitar lessons when I got into university and stopped practising. So I've been playing for 10 years, but I feel like I have the same knowledge and skills for 5 or 6. I don't have the money to get guitar lessons with the same teacher again, but I got the time and Uncle Ben is definitely helping me with my "guitar renaissance".
I'm Eddie Fontaine now 58 and I met EVH at 15 yrs old ,Eddie Van Halen was 21 .DAt ,16 I joined Blue Cheer . Metals oldest band ..Never will forget it .Great lesson Ben brother .Eddie changed my life because I figured out what he was doing at a young age .Geezz I capitalized off it .Copy Cat me ,but I am an "Eddie" I got a lot of help outta this lesson .The major and minor difference . Excellent !!! RIP legendary EVH ..mix up the order .Gotta be happy to play demolished. ..\;;;;/ Hammers on bro ..
Ben Eller is brilliant both as a musician and a teacher. I was privileged to attend a class he taught in Raleigh along with Andy Wood. I wish that I had this teaching 50+ years ago when I took up guitar.
I love the fact how you included the number sequence (4,8,15,16,23,42) from LOST in 00:36. My all-time favorite TV Show. Lastly, great lesson and video, as always.
EVH was so innovative. He deserves all the accolades and credit he gets as one of the greatest guitarists ever. Was there anyone else doing triad chord tapping before VH? If so, they were very few and far between.
Dude.... Really?! I gave up searching for tapping videos. Never could find a clear and simple lesson. I'm thrilled that I stumbled upon your video. FINALLY!! I can now visualize and clearly comprehend how to construct tapping patterns! You have won the Internet this week! Bravo my good man! Cheers!
I'm 61, started playing before my fingers were big enough. Actually started playing when I was 13. We just played whatever we had to because we were off the farm. It's fun seeing how young popular guitar players do it. At this point in life it's just another thing you know how to do. Thanks for the tips..
Woww the best video to clarify how to do arpeggios and triads , thank you so much , I actually heard some kirk hammet lead from kill em all album, "am i evil " cassette tape lol which is,really cool , that's what I gotta practice 😎😎☺
When my mom asked if I wanted to take tap lessons, I wish I didn't misunderstand and it was this kind and not the one that got me into fights at school 😔
As long as ya WON those fights. You KNOW why they put those taps on the toes of the shoes, right? So ya could kick the bullies right in the 'prunes'! 😁
Thank you for verbally explaining to me how my brain made this work to begin with. I'm self taught/learning, and couldn't connect the dots any time before when I pieced together these scale structures.
Appreciate this lesson Ben. It clears up a few things for those of us who have always played by ear & are lesson-less & never had music theory in a way that makes sense. All the best & stay well !!!
Ben, besides saying a bad thing about you a while back, I find you to be an excellent teacher that teaches on many levels but specifically to my level beginner/intermediate. I wish I had started a while back with you instead of trying things that were over my head but couldn't admit that. Really appreciate all the things you put online
You made this so much easier then how it was explained to me. !! I mean I’ve been wanting to learn this for years. It you made this so easy. I got it within minutes. !! Mahalo from Hawaii !!
Thank you for demystifying the tapping thing. As no old-head, I didn't grow up with that stuff, but I'm often asked to play that technique. Now i can work on it from a sensible framework. Still learning after playing 50 years.
Thanks for showing an easier way to look at this arpeggio technique. This visualization will help to more easily learn the fretboard whether using 2-handed tapping or any other style.
Not a guitar player, but a fan of -VH- since 78. Your teaching style held my attention to the end. I even understood everything. More knowledge for me 💪😉. I'm definitely be coming back for more.
This is great! I've been playing triads all over, but not on the same string. This helps to visualize things in a new way, plus, I get to learn tapping. Sweet. Thx.
I really enjoy your videos , Ben. I have been playing guitar since the beatles came out. I can play pretty good and can read the treble cleff. I am 69 years old. In all my years, I have never tapped or studies tapping. I think with your video help, I will be adding a new dimension to my guitar playing abiliites. You explain things in a way that starts to make sense to me. I am going to take notes of your videos make diagrams on the staff or tab and relly study what you are saying. Much aprreciation.
That was an awesome lesson. Just would never have thought of exploring triads like that. So simple and good lord…so much more to learn than just tapping!
Wow-Thank you, thank you, thank you! You have cleared so much up uncle Ben it is really appreciated. A lesson on how Eddie utilizes chords would be great or a lesson on the song 5150!
I've been working on intervals lately and this really helps. Yes I did get caught up with you calling 5Th a minor 3rd or vice-versa but I see how you explained it. Just to look at the steps instead of the numbers on a fretboard or even the intervals makes it simpler. It's pretty cool how the guitar is coming alive once you know the notes on the fretboard and intervals and what makes a major or minor chord is the third. Thanks for the I practice my tapping tonight when I get home. You're an awesome player and great teacher.
Said it before sayin it again, you are by a loooooooooooooooong distance the ABSOLUTE best teacher on the web, not to mention you crack me up too...and at my age I can use all the crackin up I can get ……. THANK YOU THANK THANK YOU for being whom you are !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks for the video. Home schooled player here ; I learned the tapping intervals by ear and accident years ago. Now I know what they are actually called. Good work Ben
Thanks Ben ! If I can get it, anyone can. I've always been a natural at tapping (for fun only), but now I understand what and why which makes me and others better guitarist. Isn't Tapping just extended scales or arpeggios ? It's just good clean fun thats all I know. People like Ben that help other people are awesome. It's like having good karma in the bank every time you help someone. True story.
Ben, you’re awesome, but your lessons remind me of how little I’ve learned in the past on guitar playing. I was in absolute awe of EVH in 1978 when VH first hit the scene. Wish I had taken lessons much earlier!
Nice that was the best lesson I have seen on youtube woke up at 4 am this morning I dont no how i ran across this vidio man I lucked out I would of never known thank you and keep on rocking. Roland from Magdalena New Mexico usa.
Thank you for this Ben. It was something I knew but hadn't really applied. I immediately looked the intro for "Hot For Teacher" and was able to figure out what chords he was using. Much easier than figuring out what notes he was using and then figuring out the chords.
Bravo! Well played! (Dm) The saddest of all keys. 😂 (Spinal Tap). Great stuff here. I've been playing for 30 years and appreciate the way you think about shapes or distances rather than calculate the formula. I've never noticed that before. Brilliant.
Wow so simple! Thanks again! I am always searching for notes (which isn't a bad thing). What a great shortcut. I added either half or whole step pull offs from the root for that nice melodic 7 chord vibe. I almost skipped over this lesson, glad I didn't!!!
I finally got it... I've been trying to learn how to play and I just felt stuck... I couldn't feel any improvement... This is the 4th video I've watched from you and it all clicked... Thank you, I'll keep watching your videos, I found out lots of things just making noise with a guitar. With your video, I was able to complete what I missed on my own now I can all put it together and actually make music.
Holy guacamole dude, this is so awesomely simple. I love it. I always actually wondered how to construct tapping licks and had to sort of try and figure it out by ear but to see this laid out in a way s easy to understand is awesome!
And, augmented would be major 3rd, major 3rd. While working on this, I realized that this is also a fabulous way to quickly figure out the notes in most chords (without having to think about the specific notes) before deciding how/where I want to play it.
Thanks for watching!!! What other EVH secrets do you want to learn next?!
Ben Eller - how do you make harmonics scream?
Ben Eller How bout bending then tapping and pulling off on that bend like in the Panama solo?, John Mayer also uses that trick a lot too.
The solo to “Romeo Delight.”
Yes.
Hey Ben, How bout tapped harmonics patterns?
The fact that the world gave us uncle Ben for free is wild.
True dat.
@Frank Rottach if you hate Slavery, never vote Democrat. History is important.
uncle ben eller is an incredible teacher/ musician
Never cared for his rice dishes but his guitar lessons are second to none.

THE BEST LESSON I've watched in a long time. Ben you ROCK
Thank you for your time and generosity.
And thank you for watching!
This was the best guitar lesson I ever had. Finding inversions by simple patterns. My mind is opened. Thank you!
Did someone say triads
Music is Win it’s like when two notes that love each other invite a third party into the mix to shake things up.
Youre both here.... Awkward. Im waiting for the catch a cheater guy to kick my bathroom door in
@@BenEller lol
Very cool , 2 of my favorite channels in the comments
Holy macaroni this made me laugh. Thank you gentlemen.
fancy seeing you here

Uncle Ben just casually putting out breakthrough lessons for free like it's no big deal. Freaking awesome.
oh you just wait. I haven't unleashed any of my REAL artillery for free yet. Planning on making some lesson packages that are going to blow minds.

This is the best lesson for composing two hand tapping licks on the fly I've ever watched. Thank you.
Wynn Blevins thank you!!!
Thanks for the video. Very easy to follow.Very instructive.
It's amazing how you always take ideas that seem so complicated, all of the sudden seem stupid simple. Thank you!
It’s all of a sudden. Stupid simple.
Most is simple , its the god damn speed of freaking light that he played that keeps it stupid complicated
Awesome visualization method to tap major/minor/diminished triads! Thanks Uncle Ben. You Rock!!!!
Wow. This “penny dropping” lesson was a great big Xmas gift, wrapped, tied with a bow, and delivered on time. Best gift ever. Thank you!!!
Sixth Sanctum Media Thats great 👍 it doesn’t happen to all of us 😉
I'm 61, started playing before my fingers were big enough. Actually started playing when I was 13. We just played whatever we had to because we were off the farm.

Blake Gilliam well thanks man, happy to help!!!
Great video as always.
I’ve always viewed it as:
3 frets between root and major 3rd
2 frets between root and minor 3rd
So glad to have you around Uncle Ben.You are THE best in my book!
Thanks uncle Ben
You made this so much easier then how it was explained to me. !!

Best Training Video I've Seen. Thank You
amazing. You've blown my mind with this stuff. Its like finding gold that was right in front of you this whole time
This is great! I've been playing triads all over, but not on the same string. This helps to visualize things in a new way, plus, I get to learn tapping. Sweet. Thx.
this is the best Ed lesson ever! Thanks Unk!
This has to be the best video I've ever seen on tapping. I understand it a lot more now.
good shit, I'm 65 these days and back in 69 there was not much going for tapping...appreciate your skill, thanks
I really enjoy your videos , Ben. I have been playing guitar since the beatles came out. I can play pretty good and can read the treble cleff. I am 69 years old. That was an awesome lesson. Just would never have thought of exploring triads like that. So simple and good lord…so much more to learn than just tapping!
Holy hell brother. That was awesome. Making the difficult easy, not just seem easy, but with a little practice just plain easy. Thanks Ben!!!

Thanks for explaining, I was confused also when he called it a 3rd. I was thinking he meant a 5th but like you said he was talking about intervals.
Well done, Ben! I like the way you presented this to a guitar player with very little music theory knowledge! Also like your dry sense of humor!!
Another lightbulb moment. Thanks Uncle B
I like the idea of practicing this in every chord of the scale.
I love your videos Ben. Thank you for helping us. I love you and your the Best!
Uncle Ben you are the one who makes things simple and easy to digest. Thank you so much for the wonderful lesson.
0:36 42nd fret, lol!!
3:15 F# demolished. Always a classic!
4:17 the bowl, cereal, milk, and spoon analogy is awesome!
Great lesson, I love it when things are simplified. Thanks
Ben awesome video brother. I love in kkoxville near your buddy Andy w. I meet andy when he works for rick at Rick's music

Excellent. So lucid and yet so comprehensive
Brilliantly done, Ben. Long live the music of EVH. Rock in peace.
My favorite tapping warmup is minor 3rd-major 3rd. Then I sub a major 4th for the major 3rd.
wow...mind blown. Great vid bro . There IS light at the end of the tunnel and its not a train. Thanks so much for posting.
Pure gold, thanks for taking the time to explain it so clearly.
Great lesson mate, thanks!
excellent lesson. Picked it up straightaway as you explained it in simple terms. Thank you very much indeed.
Thank you for this Ben. It was something I knew but hadn't really applied. I immediately looked the intro for "Hot For Teacher" and was able to figure out what chords he was using. Much easier than figuring out what notes he was using and then figuring out the chords.
Greetings from Melbourne Australia Ben! Absolutely brilliant lesson - thank you 🙏🏻
Ben your a great teacher! Thanks for sharing your passion with us.
Stefan Bacha and thank you for watching!
What an awesome approach to this topic. Great job!
Magic revealed! Great subject! Thanks.
Great lesson, very handy. Thanks uncle Ben.... Cheers mate.
OMG! What an insanely easy trick! Not being much of a shredder, this gives me some hope.
Bravo! Well played! (Dm) The saddest of all keys. 😂 (Spinal Tap). Great stuff here. I've been playing for 30 years and appreciate the way you think about shapes or distances rather than calculate the formula. I've never noticed that before. Brilliant.
Thanks, just found you man. learning guitar at 62. This is so clear I feel smart now. Thanks again

Thank you uncle Ben for this tutorial ! !
pls post more of this tapping lesson if you can.
I know this sounds corny and you've heard it before but you are a great guitar teacher! Probably the best on the web.
It's always that 42nd fret that gets me almost every time.
Excellent lesson.... theory explained concisely and simply! Perfect.
Really nice visual trick a fantastic visual lesson easy to learn and practice
Absolutely slipping this into my practice routine and thanks for this
Cereal analogy = Mind blown. ;)
Wow man! This is the first lesson of tapping that came through. Thank you dude!
this stuff is gold and ive been playing for thirty years
Uncle Ben the best uncle i ever had
